I think that's what 77 was eluding to. He wants to earn his check. That's the way I see it too.

    A-PHUCKING-MEN!!!!

Ryan just gained a ton of respect (from me at least) for not being a money-grubbing diva. Ya I understand he could've gotten more...but going into a year with ALL new receivers (save Landry), who knows how it would've turned out...I for one think they'll do great things, so I have to chock one up for Tannenballs and co for making a VERY SMART, tactical move.

Been one helluvan off-season. At this point, I'd let DJ have Tannenbabies.

I understood what he meant, but that implies that he would want to improve so that he could get more money and I don't think that's what drives him... he will improve regardless.

I just think he is a competitor. He works hard, says all the right things, never rags on his O line when he has gotten creamed the last 3 seasons and of course he's tough. I think he wants to get paid, but I also agree that he's a competitor.

Without getting into politics, I'm happy that Miami finally has stability at the QB position.

It's impossible get anything done, to make any kind of real progress, without committing to something. On the other hand, it's hard to get a good deal unless you're willing to take some risk and bet on someone in those commitments.

This move shows that Miami is (for the first time in over 15 years) willing to put the team's future in the hands of a young player that they trust. I commend them for that move. I can't tell you a time when Miami has done that--made a move without hedging their bets in some way.

This deal makes sense for Miami. Tannehill is a good guy and after 3 years in the NFL, he is playing at a level which breeds optimism in the majority of fans. So far he's improved each year.

I've been banging the drum for stability, patience, commitment and continuity and this is a move that does that, so I like it.

O wonderful.... Not one snap with the new D, everything now pre-anything scientific wild-a$$ guess, playmakers haven't even hit the field for more than a few powderpuff plays against air, and the newly christened franchise QB is already being shot at by rookie posters and the ever lasting 'I Ain't Happy With Anything' Walter 'Dunham' attitude posters about it's "Playoffs or Bust." Now that he has been guaranteed $48KK, why don't some of you sit down and act polite for at least a day or so? I would loved to have seen what some of the guys on here would have posted if there had been an Internet at the 1983 draft - They would have crucified Shula!

Its possible I mistook your post but....

Imagine why? Sounds a lot like my Lions fan who said when losing Suh "with all that money we saved we can get 4-5 elite players". Do people actually think it's that easy to find top tier/elite talent? We just signed a franchise (with more upside) guy below market value. Can't we all just be happy?

Great move. We just saved 4 million per year in cap space by getting it done this year rather then next and considering payrolls keep growing this is going to be unbelievably cheap for the entire length

I didn't say we could get 4-5 elite players. You're setting up a strawman argument. We have holes all over including the positions I mentioned.

To tie so much into a middle of the league starting QB isn't wise. I don't think we're close to a title at all. Only a relatively good deal like I said.

Top tier doesn't mean elite. Top tier could mean top 25 or top 33%. Elite means more like top 5 in the NFL.

There is a huge difference between top 25 or top 33%.

Top 33% is 11th in the NFL, which is about where Tannehill was last season overall.

I'm not talking about QBs to replace Tannehill.

There are a lot more OL and LBs than there are QBs.

I don't believe the value is there with Tannehill.

I'd rather rely on building a team as a whole than expecting Tannehill to carry us, which is expected of a player with a $96 million contract.

So maybe its not wise to accuse other people of creating strawman arguments when you're using your own personal definitions of words that you haven't shared with anyone.

I'll repeat..., "you sound a lot like my friend".

Ok you're right. Signing top tier free agents and drafting "top tier" players are automatic. As I said, it's not as easy as people think remember Ellerbee and Wheeler? Those were hole fillers....

The guys working the cap and contracts are so damn smart nowadays and every year is different and present different opportunities. Why does everyone worry so much about what a player makes? Worst case scenario literally just happened to us with Wallace, Ellerbee and Wheeler and we survived. Actually we are thriving with Suh and now signing our Franchise QB long term.

I never said elite. I said top tier. Tier means class.

I'm not putting words in others mouths. I'm not sure you know what a strawman argument is.

I don't care to argue semantics any more.

My point is I'd rather go with the "Moneyball" approach of getting the best team possible with the best value possible. I don't see how paying a QB like Tannehill $96 million creates value over signing a top tier MLB and OGs, for example.

    That is actually false.

He would have been giving a few more million dollars a year if he was expected to carry Miami. Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck are not going to sign a contract for as little as Tannehill signed.

There you go again putting words in my mouth. Why don't you quote where I said that it's easy to sign and draft top tier talent?

What I mean is I wouldn't give Tannehill the $96 million. I'd wait until another opportunity presents itself. I wouldn't have reached for him at #8 in the draft. I would've traded down and upped my chances at getting top tier talent.

Now three years later we haven't reached the playoffs and we're giving the guy a huge contract. If you pay someone big money you should expect big things. That's all I'm saying.

Because moneyball doesn't work in the NFL. There aren't enough games. If you want to sign "top tier" talent, and Tannehill fits your definition of "top tier", I don't see a problem.

Then that just shows how overpaid QBs are. A player is getting a $96 million contract but isn't expected to carry the team...

Nobody else agrees with me on the value idea? Seems like the best teams do. That's why we always "win the offseason". We land free agents with the most bloated contracts.

It doesn't? Seems like the Pats always trade down for extra picks and rarely bid the most for a player (Revis seems like the rare exception). They believe in value, for sure. The Seahawks aren't tagging Irvin. We always "win the offseason" but never do squat.

I don't believe Tannehill deserves a $96 million contract. I'd rather get several good players. I'm not saying an NFL team needs top tier talent across the board to win.

Tier means class. Elite, by comparison, means a small group of the best. Look up the definitions.

Ever heard of "the elite" being the top 1% moneymakers in the US? A tier, or class, means more like "upper class", " middle class", etc.

My point is your chances of acquiring more talent are higher when you trade down and sign several players rather than invest so much in a single pick or a single signing.

You ever hear that that if there are tiers of classification for a given group, then the top tier is probably where the elites are located?

You keep acting like these words are specific. The TOP tier would include the top 1% yes or no? If it didn't, then the top tier is the second tier.

You aren't complaining about the draft pick spent on Tannehill, you are complaining about the money he is getting paid.

Did you or did you not insinuate that Miami should sign top tier guys? I pointed out its not as easy as that. If it were every team in the NFL would have a stock pile of top tier guys.... and FA and draft busts wouldn't be somewhat normal.

Just because we haven't made the playoffs in these last 3 years does not make your point valid.
