You were my 4th choice, because you got Chip everything he would want to be successful offensively. I WANTED to put you in that 3spot I truely did.

In that same token with Sanders, how good would Jordy be without AROD?? Aaron Rodgers made Jarrett Boykin look like a 1200 yard WR. Green and CJ are game changers, Jordy is no more or less than Sanders IMO. Then we have Julius. So there is that.

Maybe Schis would know this off-hand...but when was the last time the GM of the Year managed a team that had a winning record the season heading into the offseason? Think you'd have to go back to 2012 when the Steelers won it, IIRC.

2013 GMOTY Bdogtitan & Larry Ashland - Jacksonville Jaguars who had a 2-14 season in 2012
    2012 GMOTY Boik14 - Pittsburgh Steelers who had a 12-4 season in 2011
2011 GMOTY UCF Finatic - Philadelphia Eagles who had a 10-6 season in 2010
*2011 Madden Sim Winner finsbuck719 - Carolina Panthers who had a 2-14 season in 2010 finished the Madden Season 11-5 with a 4-2 Division record

    2010 GMOTY Fin-Omenal - Cleveland Browns who had a 5-11 season in 2009

    *Bonus*
2008 GMOTY schisno - Miami Dolphins who had a 1-15 season in 2007

If you want to win a GMOTY you'll need to take a team with a losing season, specifically a 2-14 team as 3 of the past 5 GMOTY built winning teams from 2 win teams.

strictly as a WR combo I think yours was the best. I don't even think it's a debate. The idea that anyone would even dispute your wr's is IMO idiotic. Where you lost that category for my vote was at RB where you had nothing to compete with Bell and a TE who I don't like at all (Allen).

It's an opinion, but I agree in that there's very little room to debate (although i'm admittedly biased).

Regarding the rest of my weapons: Hill is a better runner now than Bell, although certainly not as dangerous out of the backfield, although Hill was productive here. Hill was a Top 10 RB, statistically speaking, as a rookie and was actually significantly more productive than Bell was his rookie season. So I disagree with the statement that there was "nothing to compete with Bell" although I can agree that Bell is the more complete back at this point...just don't think it's a substantial discrepancy. And you may not like Allen, that's your prerogative, but do you really like a 32-year-old Heath Miller that much more? He was still productive, but Allen was much better than him in a couple of areas. Again, just don't think the discrepancy is all that big. And remember, Zach Miller is our No.2...he was one of the most complete TEs around in 2013 before a season-ending injury.

I love both Bell and Hill, but Ryan Matthews is better than Woodhead also which isn't being mentioned. I like Allen for the record.

Note: I am not saying I should win over the Bengals, but I do think I should be in the discussion.

True. Matthews has proven capable of being a feature back. But Woodhead isn't going to be asked to be a feature back; he's a third-down back who can compliment Hill's bruising running style. Woodhead will serve the same role Sproles did for Brees. Plus Juwan Thompson was really good in a limited capacity last year in Denver, perhaps he can thrive in a bigger role? He's our insurance policy anyways and isn't a terrible one.

And I absolutely think Pitt should be in the discussion here: Brown and Bell are as good a WR/RB combo in the league, if not the best. I just thought this would be the lone award we truly deserved to run away with and am surprised it hasn't happened.

The problem with "best offensive weapons" as a category is it's vague. As some have mentioned before, should QB count? Because there's a big difference when a Pro Bowler is throwing the ball vs a journeyman, fringe starter. Or when a stout offensive line is blocking vs an average one. Part of what Ashy and I tried to do was put an offense together that was not just prolific, but fit together perfectly. A power back complimented by a proven third-down back; an elite quarterback protected by one of the best OLs around, including the best tackle duo (arguably) in the game...a dynamic, game-changing WR with a flexible No. 2 who can take over a game when needed, along with two TEs who can block very well, one of which can stretch the field and the other can be a reliable target. Plus a top-5 FB. It was a thoughtful, deliberate strategy that I feel like we executed close to perfection...the defense was similar, but with less star power...and it's just disappointing to see it being overlooked.

No, it shouldn't count. The idea of the best offensive weapon category is for RB/WR/TE.

I removed the Best Offense/Best Defense awards because they were redundant and it made more work for me however maybe the best way to attack this was just have a Best Offense & Best Defense and no Offensive Weapons, Offensive Line, Front Seven, or Secondary awards.

In the nominations process, the award description was listed for each award.

Sorry, I was never going to buy the Hill argument. He is who I thought he was...a good back between the tackles who will end up in a timeshare with a shiftier style back and what do you know he ended up in cincy sharing time with Gio Bernard. That's not to say he's not good. He's just not going to compete with one of the top 3 backs in the league in Bell.

And FWIW, personally I like Miller more then Allen. I had this discussion in club and I'll say it til Allen changes my opinion...he's not a starting caliber TE. He had a 14% drop rate last year who is an average blocker. No thank you. Not a fan...never have been. Miller may be a plodder but he's a good blocker and reliable in the passing game.

That's fair although I don't think saying Hill ended up in a "timeshare" is accurate. He started in that system as a rookie, but then ended up carrying the ball 20+ times in five games in the final two months of the regular season. Bell followed almost the same type of path as a rookie...and look what he turned into. Hill is statistically a better runner than Bell and should continue to see a bigger role in his career.

And I already know your stance on Allen...you think he can't catch. But you continue to skew the sample size there. He struggled with drops this past season, but why don't you measure his entire career? Seems unfair to base everything on just one season. He had a drop rate of 6.25 as a rookie (https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/05/26/secret-superstar-dwayne-allen/) which I think is worth mentioning. So maybe we can deduce that he's inconsistent as a receiver, but far from bad? Or that it's too early to make a call? Or if you combine his numbers that he has an average drop rate? IDK, just think it's shortsided to base everything on one season in which he was coming off a serious injury. And actually, he's pretty good as a blocker, definitely above "average."

Find it interesting, although not surprising, that the NY Jets -- the only team that applied metrics more to the construction of their team than us -- did not vote for the Bengals in any categories. Pretty hypocritical, no?

The only days I've had away from the hospital this week were occupied by my Mean Joe Green writeup and a much-needed evening to relax [tonight], so I'll get my vote in tomorrow or Monday at the latest. I figured I'd probably be the last one to vote so I've purposefully refrained from looking at the votes to ensure I'm not aware of the count just in case I happen to be the deciding vote for anything.

How many players did your team have in the top 100 on NFLN?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Top_100_Players_of_2015

    Mine:

    Calvin Johnson - 6
    Ndamukong Suh - 24
    Elvis Dumervil - 46
    DeAndre Levy - 66
    Golden Tate - 85
    Glover Quin - 88
    CJ Mosley - 94

4 of my front 7 made the list (and Ansah could have easily been on that list as well). But somehow I didn't win best front 7 :pity:

Yup, nice to see Ryan Davis getting in more work off the edge this year after being an interior nickel rusher last year. I'm sure nothing will change when Dante Fowler and Chris Clemons get back on the field. Awesome signing. #championship

In other news, Jimmy Garoppolo is receiving tons of reps with New England's first team offense.

Ameer Abdullah looked pretty good the other night as well. It's just one preseason game but he showed some real wiggle.

Yes Dante Fowler, a man who sustained a major knee injury in rookie minicamp (let's see how he comes back and if they ease him back) and Chris Clemons who hasn't practiced this off season and who is also 33 years old. If Davis produces this season (as he did last year), I can see the Jags having Fowler/Davis rotate often next season to keep them both fresh and healthy and using Clemons old a$$ as a backup. So yes, I'm sure nothing major will change either :)

Sounds nice in theory..... but something tells me Jax didn't spend the #3 overall pick on the high-motored Fowler just to have him rotate heavily with Davis.... and I doubt they dished out $20 million to Aldon Smith's backup [Dan Skuta] to have him sit the bench. Jax might wanna actually, you know, play the 2015 season and get through the 2016 draft and free agency periods first before crowning Davis the backup LEO or starting nickel rusher of the future. :wink2:

Fun tidbit following the Jax-Pitt preseason game courtesy of Jacksonville.com:

Obviously during the season Davis will also be competing for interior rush snaps with Jared Odrick, Sen'Derrick Marks, and Ziggy Hood, the latter being a great 3-tech pressure player in college before being miscast as a 5-tech in Pitt. Funny how much of a big deal you guys make out of a backup.

BTW, if Davis hypothetically produces this season as he did last year, that'll mean he's spending most of his time rushing from the interior. ONOZ, the horror. It's amusing to see you & Bdog get so defensive and offended about the notion of Davis being an interior rusher as if it's the AIDS of the D-line or something. Aaron Donald, Geno Atkins, Gerald McCoy, and Warren Sapp, heard of those guys? You both are like fresh out'a high school so I doubt you know the greatness of Randy White, Alan Page, John Randle, and Buck Buchanan. Interior rushers are people too dude, lol.

Regardless, the context of Bdug's post pertained to what's happening right now, present day, not next year.... and that's what I responded to.
