Nice...One of my favorites. Down-to-earth coming-of-age drama that's really well written with some great performances. Small, tight world with a tight plot. First time I saw it I was just so surprised by how good and moving it was, and it never stopped being those two things the whole way through.

Inherent Vice is my favorite movie I've seen in a long while.

Finally got around to watching the Dollars trilogy

Fistful of Dollars — The audio dubs were sort of distracting, but great film nonetheless. The pace could have been faster. Least favorite of the three.
For A Few Dollars More — My favorite one of the series. Double the badassery of either of the two others IMO.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly — Simply legendary. Haven't met a movie set in the midst of the Civil war (Gangs of New York) that I didn't like. Most quotable film I've seen yet. Tuco after killing One-Arm: "If you're gonna shoot, shoot. Don't talk".

Great cast , the kid who played neckbone Jacob Lofland is also in season 5 of Justified . The movie and the series have similarities for not being too quick paced , letting characters develop and be subtle.

Finally got around to seeing Interstellar. Loved it. Christopher Nolan was able to put together a great space movie without insulting the viewers intelligence.

Make sure you've also watched "Once Upon a Time in the West" with Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson, Jason Robards, Jack Elam, and the gorgeous Claudia Cardinale.

Hope you've seen "The Wild Bunch" and Lonesome Dove. lol...

Watched Lucy last night. Man, was that disappointing. Based on the previews, I was expecting at least a fun action film. My wife pointed out that something was wrong during the DVD previews, which featured movies like Scorpion King 4 and other similar jokes.

Lucy is essentially a straight to DVD movie featuring Scarlett Johanson and Morgan Freeman featuring decent special effects. Otherwise, very thin on plot and sense. Felt a lot like something on the Sci Fi Channel. "B" movie that somehow got a big ad campaign and a wide cinema release.

Second last movie I saw was Interstellar, a few nights ago. Man, that movie was awesome. I've been putting it off for a while but decided to finally watch. Excellent film!

The last movie I saw (well it's only 30 minutes long) is Kungfury. It was a small independent short that got backed by kickstarter in the amount of $630K so they extended it to 30 minutes. It's an over the top 80's action comedy that incorporates so much 80's goodness. Oh, and Hasselhoff sings the theme and he has his own music video. There's also a VERY funny video about Hackerman below as well. If you don't take this movie seriously, it can be a lot of fun.

hmmm... I liked it actually. I mean Scarlett is so hawt that the poor story line may have blinded me. And Morgan Freeman is never a bad choice. Maybe it helped because I saw the movie in the theaters...

Jurassic World. It was OK. A generic summer blockbuster film that isn't layered very deeply. Still, fun to watch.

I saw Human Centipede 3 last night. The warden was the same German guy that played the doctor in the first one. He had a big role, and it was pretty annoying because it was hard to understand what he was saying. Unlike the people in the movie that were sewed up ***-to-mouth, I didn't get much out of it.

Seen it. It's solid. But extreme. Uncomfortably extreme. Makes it hard to really enjoy, even despite an interesting story.

definitely extreme... and uncomfortably so at times for me as well.... but there's unfortunately no movie without that aspect. I don't think it's intentionally trying to make you feel uncomfortable though per se. I think it's trying to make you identify heavily with the main character, develop and emotional bond with her, and feel what she feels rather than just superficially watching her like many movies would do which IMO would be a disservice to everything she endures, and the uncomfortableness is a byproduct of it. For me it was a powerful movie with a powerful ending instead of a flick meant to simply rile me up and gross me out. I felt like if weren't sucked into her ominous world that the impressive ending would've fallen flat. I can definitely say that I've never seen anything like it before. As extreme as it was, I would oxymoronically describe the movie as beautiful.

Inside out with my kids. I had pretty low expectations for this going into it, thought it would easily be the worst Pixar movie ever made based on the previews. We were pleasantly surprised. Not a great movie, but good. certainly not the worst Pixar film - that still belongs to Toy Story 2, Cars 2 and any of the stupid Planes movies.

    The ninth gate: 3/5

Mystery/thriller. A book dealer is given a job of finding and authenticating two books supposedly written by Lucifer. Stars Johnny Depp. It's decent enough and def. has strong moments. The ending isn't all that interesting, which hurts the overall rating.

    Jurassic World... meh.

We get to follow the story of 2 kids... yay... whatever, guess what? One's a selfish s**thead. The other an overly adorable hobbit head and who cries and gets scared a lot. Throw in an arrogant Chinese scientist, who drinks tea and speaks condescendingly to everyone, a naive Theme park director who wears too much white and cares only about sales to begin with, a megalomaniac billionaire owner who fancies himself a heli-pilot, and then a private merc leader who is a blathering idiot. What could go wrong?

Chris Pratt plays the real star of the movie in Owen Grady, and while they went out of their way to make him bad*ss-esque what with all the sweat and chest hair, the leather vest, cool lever action rifle, belt knife, and vintage Harley, as well as being the sole voice of reason in the movie, it was a VERY Good thing everyone else in the movie was there to save his *** every single fkn time something happened, including his female counterpart. BTW, his character is ex-Navy. This fact is uber important since they mention it like 5 times for good effect. I'd venture that he he trained the attack dogs for the Navy, since his sole job, prior to being Jurassic World hero, was to train raptors to act as a unit similar to dogs. He had some small success early in the film with teaching them basically to "stay" before feeding them dead rats, but WTF? The slimeball paramilitary henchman was satisfied and ready to free these toothy, clawy little bastids to go fight wars and work as bloodhounds to track other animals - and humans.

The new critter was the T2 Terminator of engineered dinos. The I-Rex could do it all - out think, out fox, out bite, out scratch, all others. It could change it's colors and camo itself and lower and regulate it's body heat.

They ripped off several other movies in the making, including predator. How many movies have we now seen blood dripping on someone who is about to get fooked up - right before they get fooked up?

There was also too much WTF, why would you do that type sh*t as well - like why would you go into the cage with the new super bad**** I-Rex if you don't actually KNOW what it is and even IF it's in the damn cage or not. Stupid. Also where the 2 kids decided to go off-roading in the gyroscope thing... and of course that ends badly - but luckily they find the original Jurassic Park Parking garage with several jeeps and whoo hoo, they have super batteries that can last like 22 years complete with super octane gas that can do the same thing and GTFO of there ahead of the I-Rex. Maybe their uncle is McGyver or something... Now that would have been cool for a cameo. McGyver vs the I-Rex... Who would've seen that coming?

    I'll stop...

Anyway, it WAS an entertaining movie if you don't think too much about the writing or constant cliches and just enjoy the really cool special effects and some super cool animals/dinos...

my father rented a movie for the kids and I sat through it - Strange Magic. Nice animation, but maybe the worst movie I've had to sit through in years. I was basically knawing my arm off to get out of the bear trap. Jesus that was really bad. they kept singing bad song after bad song.

I had Showtime for free this past weekend, and was able to catch a movie called, 'The Railway Man.' It's based on a true story about an English P.O.W. who was captured and held by the Japanese to work on building the railway there with other P.O.W.'s.
After being interrogated and tortured by the Japanese Kempeitai (Japanese Military Police) for building a radio, the war is soon over and he is released. Many years later, he learns that is interrogator is now a tour guide at the site of where the prison camps and railway was being built in Burma. He goes there to confront him, and comes very close to killing him. The interrogator shows he has learned the error of his ways, and that his military lied to him during the war about many things, and his very apologetic and sorry. Eventually, the two work over their differences, and remained close friends until their deaths a few years ago.
Lots of flashbacks from present day to during the war. Definitely worth a watch, especially if you're a WWII history buff like myself.

Eric Lomax, whose autobiography the movie is based on, was born and raised where I live, Portobello in Edinburgh. They had a premiere of the movie in a community hall in Portobello, which his daughter came along to (Lomax himself died in 2012, before the movie was released).
