A new South Park game was a nice surprise. Stick of Truth was amazing.

New South Park game is great, shame it isn't made by Obsidian.

Final Fantasy VII remake is real!

    Reminder:

Nintendo and Square-Enix will likely overlap. Nintendo seems like they have more to talk about than can be contained in just 1 hour.

I've been wanting to pick up a Wii-U or an XBONE to go with my PS4. I wasn't super impressed with Microsoft's announcments - it'll be interesting to see if Nintendo has anything fun planned.

I don't see why you'd get an XB1 to pair with a PS4, unless you REALLY REALLY want Halo 5 or Gears 4. The Wii U is the natural complement to a PS4/XB1/PC.

Just Cause 3 release date is 12/1/15

Also a new Nier game is being developed by PlatinumGames and is a PS4 exclusive.

Most excited for FO4, Just Cause 3, Uncharted 4, Ashen, Unraveled, the Zelda 3-player game.

    Hype hit: The Division

Wait-and-see: FF7 Remake. This coming from a person who's played it and finished it on 4 different consoles.

Hopefully COOP and then I'll be even more interested.

One thing I hope with all these open world 3rd person shooters (The Division, TC Wildlands, and whatever) is that they hamstring people who use first person view to aim down sights. Look at GTA V, you have a great 1st person view and it is pointless. You can snipe using the normal crosshair and be way more effective than someone aiming down sights. I know the first person view in GTA is more of a novelty, but I just hope The Division and other games mentioned don't come to that as it gets boring quick.

The latest The Division game play has me worried about this though. Accuracy should be much lower in third person.

EDIT: It appears The Division is only 3rd person.

First Ghost Recon game that actually looks...interesting? Dare I say.
The Division looks good, but I won't let me get too excited, I'll be cautiously optimistic. Battlefront looks amazing, but again, Dice made, so it may not be ready to play for another 6 months after launch  No man's sky looks interesting.
But Fallout....FALLOUT is what I am about.

Ghost Recon looks interesting because it's basically GTA5 Heists in a licensed Tom Clancy skin. I really like the concept though. Cautiously optimistic about it and The Division. I don't understand why they need to have 2 Tom Clancy series coop shooters, though.

Still wondering what exactly No Man's Sky is really, but it looks interesting. Obviously has a huge element of exploration to it, but the photos seem to involve dinosaurs and military spaceships too.

    http://gamerant.com/ps4-backwards-compatibility-sony-408/

Sony's comments as to backwards compatibility. Don't hold your breath, sadly.

For me, I #1 want the convenience of playing all my games on one console, #2 don't have space to put both of them on my entertainment center, and #3 know that eventually the PS3 is going to die. My second one is already older than my first one was when it kicked the bucket.

The dinosaurs just depend on what planet you happen to visit. Others might have humanoid aliens. Many planets will have nothing.

And that's kind of the point I think. There seems to be a nominal "game" with a goal but the creator said that he imagines and even hopes that most people will just enjoy exploring

And this encapsulates why I don't like procedurally generated anything. The game has no objective, ergo no end point. Just like MMOs. Time wasting should not be a genre in and of itself, IMO.

Yeah, the PS3 will eventually die. Sony is still manufacturing and selling them, though. You aren't risking permanent inaccessibility until at least 2017, if not 2018. Even then, there will always be used consoles on eBay, or a remake/update of the game.

I think backwards compatibility is just a smidge overrated, though. It's really, really nice, but it shouldn't be considered a requirement. At some point, you have to do something new with your system components and just make a clean break.

I love exploration, but I wonder if there's something larger that can tie it all together. Goals at least, you know. Very curious.

No Man's Sky looks great, but I agree with Des. I don't really care for simply exploring. While it may look great and different, it's not something I'd like to spend my time on.

For example, Assassin's Creed settings always look really cool due the eras they take place in, but I never simply run from one edge to the map to another just for the hell of it. I need to actually do something.

I think it's more relevant now than it was in the past with the expansion of DLC and Day 1 patches. If I want a working version of a game I paid for I need to get it from the source. I've put a small fortune into Guitar Smith. Would piss me off If I lose access to the content of songs I purchased.

Those graphics on the Metal Gear game are astounding! I haven't really played one since the first one on the NES, lol. Tried one on the PS2, and the level of stealth it required from the get go drove me insane. Gave it back to the friend I was borrowing it from within days.

Well, the ultimate objective is to get to the center of the galaxy, for some reason I guess we learn about along the way? Meanwhile you need to gather resources and upgrade your equipment to make that journey. We already know there was an ancient alien race that left Sentinel robots across the galaxy to guard life bearing planets. Are there any of those aliens still out there? What is at the center of the galaxy? How often might you encounter another human player?

No Man's Sky reminds me a lot of the old Terran Trade Authority books I read as a kid being made into videogame form. The art style in NMS reflects a lot of the art in those books, and just old school scifi book covers really. This association makes NMS a must-buy for me, unless there are some very negative early reviews.

For those that are OCD about exploring every solar system? This game is going to destroy their lives. :)

Oh, so they actually came up with a point to the game? Good to know. Still not playing it, though.
