Is all this mystery really necessary?

It would certainly be a boon for the Dolphins if it goes way up. It would be huge. Could make the difference in keeping guys like Vernon and Lamar Miller. Jelani Jenkins is going to want an extension if he plays as well this year as many are expecting.

    We could afford Mathis.

Softens the Suh contract a little.

If Brandon Fields and Earl Mitchell don't really impress this year they still need to be cut, or in Mitchell's case traded. What the hell are we doing paying the 25th ranked punter 4.3 mil!! This is crazy. He should have been cut last year. http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/punting/sort/netAvgPuntYards

If Miller has another similar year, what will a new contract look like? I can't really pinpoint another RB that is similar to compare contracts. Jamaal Charles 7 mil a year???

Between the cap increase and rolling over the 9 mil or so we have left for this season, we should be fine. We'll also have a few players, like Cameron, who one way or another won't be making what their 2016 cap his currently is, and a few others, like Misi and Fields, who can be cut with almost no cap hit.

I think that Miller will be a Fin if the team wants him back. Vernon, Im not sure. He could get a really big offer, like Odrick did elsewhere.

I tend to think the opposite. Not because I don't like Miller, I really do, but it's a much easier position to replace. Losing Vernon, numbers aside, with Wake's age and all things considered, would be a bigger loss from an NFL talent perspective. DE>HB, simple as that. Of course If Vernon is asking for something crazy that changes things, but if Miller has a break out year as I suspect, he ain't gonna be cheap either.
