Rosenhaus was just on Channel 7 Sports Xtra with Steve Shapiro, as always on Sunday nights at 11:30. Rosenhaus said that he "heard" that Tannehill is exerting more influence on the team, the FO is very much open to his ideas, and that Tannehill is actively lobbying the team to sign Evan Mathis.

You could argue that this is Rosenhaus posturing in negotiations, but I've watched this spot for many, many years and I would tend to believe that he's telling the truth. Regardless, if RT is encouraging the Fins to sign Mathis, good for him.

Dangerous position for him to take, if we do not sign Mathis, what does that tell his teammates?

Not shocking, he doesn't want to get his head bashed in... again.

With Albert's timetable questionable, I do think signing Mathis would offer some insurance on the left side of the line. At this point, our line doesn't have a clear cut starting LT in the short term (in the long term, who knows if Albert will be the same) and if Dallas Thomas is starting at LG (or even our rookie), we could be in deep ****. The biggest issue is cost. What does Mathis want? If he's not willing to take a team friendly deal, signing him isn't going to happen. We need to carry over as much money as possible next year. It's the cost of having a guy like Suh.

Or perhaps a "who wouldn't want to add a pro bowler to the offense"? would have worked well enough w/o discounting the draft picks etc?

    1) Tannehill saying he does not believe in Dallas Thomas (neither do most of us)

    2) For us to afford Mathis, Tannehill may have to be willing to re-structure his just-signed contract.

We have the space, it's just that there wouldn't be much to roll over. Sportrac has us at $10 million left over when looking at the Top 51. Considering the escalators in some of our contracts for next season, they may value that rollover more than the Bills and Jets rolling over our interior linemen.

As he should be. I'f I'm Tannehill I'm not sure I even want to step on the field again if Dallas Thomas is in our starting lineup. Our G position needs someone proven. Even if only to help guys like Turner, Douglas and... ugh.. Thomas along.

I believe we CAN afford Mathis, but it gets messy after 2015 in terms of contracts; Suh's number that year is the largest of his deal, IIRC, plus you're adding in new numbers for Pouncey and Tannehill and I'd imagine they'll look to re-sign one, if not both, between Lamar Miller and Olivier Vernon.

Translation: If Mathis is signed, it probably means you're going to jettison someone with a higher salary, and IMO, that probably means guys like Brent Grimes, Dion Jordan and Koa Misi are all on the chopping block be it due to age, salary vs. production or other circumstances.

Should be interesting to watch what happens over the next month or so as Rosenhaus said they were going to be deliberate in terms of Mathis signing with a team. Let's be honest though, I'd feel a helluva lot better with Mathis at LG. Especially when the alternatives are Dallas Thomas, and a rookie Jamil Douglas.

You know DJ, I am definitely worried about Albert not being ready to go. Just in the fact if we all remember for awhile seems like Albert was upbeat, posting pictures of himself working out and saying he was doing great and will be ready to go. Then, abruptly it seems like he quit giving us updates on how he is doing etc....for this reason alone, I am worried about where he is at both physically, and mentally. Did he have some kind of setback? Did he re-injure anything working too hard trying to get back? Or did he simply just decide to go silent on Twitter until he is at 100%? I am not sure, but I do wish he could let us know something...I wonder if we might be holding off on Mathis thinking that they may have to move Brandon inside...back to guard...if so, does Fox hold up at LT for the whole year? I am not worried about Fox' play as he showed me what he's got when he played LT against Denver and held his own with no problems. Might we have to move Billy Turner back to his natural LT position? I would be very comfortable with Billy and Brandon over on the left side if that is what we have to do. But, these are all simply questions and scenarios at this point that I wish we could get more info on...Any of y'all that are out there in the twittersphere seen any additional post out of Albert? I know VT is on Twitter following some players...please let us know if any of y'all are following Brandon's tweets. Thank you.

I don't think it is prudent unless for the exact right price. Wasn't he due $5.5M this year and he was moaning about that? He could be wanting a long-term deal, but does he warrant one? I'm not so sure.

When it comes down to the crux of the matter, you have to believe in the development of the players you draft. Miami has made a few splashes this year, and some major ones. Too many spashes in the pool, you end up with little or no water to swim in.

A few minutes in they start talking about Branden Albert and show clips of him moving around and doing some drills. There's a noticeable limp, but Branden Albert's taken to social media several times stating he's always had a "hitch in his gait" or something to that effect. IMO, he's moving around pretty well for someone not even a year off of an ACL & MCL tear. I'm also very pleased that they have Jason Fox working as the LT in place of Albert. They made a real mess of the O-line last year moving too many players around.

Coming from an agent who has a self interest involved the ..I heard... statement should be taken with a pinch of salt.We dont know if that what Tanny has said. But there is nothing wrong with wishful thinking .Hopefully it will put additional pressure to make it happen.

As far as Drew's ulterior motives are concern, this only works for his negotiating position with other teams as our own FO is well aware of whether RT17 has made a pitch for Mathis and how strong he is pushing it. If anything this may be Drew simply trying to get someone else to join the bidding war.

Your view might be different if you've watched that show over the years as I have, in my opinion it's the second best source of Dolphins news in south Florida, second to only Barry Jackson's Sports Buzz in the Miami Herald. Rosenhaus said that he "heard" Tannehill was lobbying for the Dolphins to sign Mathis kind of with a grin and a wink- the intent seemed clearly to be that Rosenhaus wasn't legally or ethically able to flat out confirm that Tannehill is lobbying for Mathis, so he did everything but confirm it. As I said I've been watching Sports Xtra for years, and Rosenhaus has been spot on far more often than not when it comes to Dolphins news.

if our docs suspect he's not ready to go, you roll with fox, keep everyone where they are, and you go get mathis.

I'm pretty if this is true that ryan went into the front office to ask them to sign mathis I'm sure he didn't go empty handed, probably told them he would do something to his contract next year.

If we have extra cash for this year but not in 2016 maybe we can sign Mathis to a one year deal, possibly with an option for next year so we're not locked in. Maybe he bites, maybe he doesn't. Personally, I'd give him a 2 year deal and figure out the rest later.

Suh also played with Mosely and could give concrete reasons for Miami signing him. I don't necessarily have an issue with Tannehill lobbying for a player, but it's a little different than the Mosely thing.

IIRC, Tannehill hung with Bryant McKinnie at a tennis event in Miami and some charity functions prior to the 2013 season. IMO, it wasn't a coincidence that Miami traded for Bryant McKinnie PRIOR to Jonathan Martin's leaving. I think Tannehill has some clout, and if it nets a Pro Bowl caliber guard, then I'm all for it. After all, no QB has been sacked more than Tannehill since he's entered the league. Evan Mathis walks in and is better than any guard Miami has on the roster by a pretty wide margin.

Ugh, Fox is okay when healthy, he has the injury bug though.

Albert should be ready to go, ACL/MCL is not what it once was in terms of career impact

It's not so far off to think Mathis could make us a contender (OL is really the only truly glaring hole.. everything else we need some luck staying healthy and can be managed), so "exact right price" is I think higher than it otherwise would be. And the players you draft can still develop without being thrown to the wolves immediately.

I have no problem Tannehill pulling for Mathis, but it is different just knowing about a guy than actually playing next to a guy for an entire season.

My only issue with the entire Mathis thing comes down to money. Is it a wise investment for the future of this team if he is asking a bunch?

I also find it funny that Rosenhaus says he won't mention any teams, but then mentions Tannehill. Curious.

Sometimes the future is now, and I think that this is one of those times. This team looks like it's ready to make a move and the last thing that it needs is to be gutted by by the OG position again. Spend the money, shore up the weak link and move on, jmo.

I disagree. I think you have to trust your prospects and trust the coaching. Big moves have already been made to put this team in a good position to win those tough games. I just don't trust a guy who complained about a $5.5M salary AT GUARD.

Just because it's a need for the team, it doesn't mean it's right for the team. The whole situation is just too convenient for me. Rosenhaus thinks he's getting his client paid. I hope he does, just not with the Dolphins.

I'd rather sign Mathis and not risk having a crappy interior OL. If Albert isn't back on time the left side of the OL could get ugly.

WADR, given the disastrous juggling on the OL that the coached did after the Albert injury last year, with James going to LT and Dallas Thomas way overmatched at RT, and the fact that Thomas is still on the roster, I'd rather not trust the prospects and certainly not the coaching.
