OK, I'm lost. Who do the Celtics want?

Previously there'd been a rumor that they were going to put together a monster package to get Okafor. Instead they move up to pick #9 and get...?

This is the really scary part about Hassan Whiteside. He showed the potential to be a really good shooter. It's odd he struggles with his free throws so much but IMO that's mental.

Yeah, Sully unfollwed Boston on Twitter and started following Charlotte.

Not much reason to do that otherwise.

    Terrible trade for Charlotte.

Might be mistaken, but I don't think you can trade draft picks after 2 p.m. anymore you have to pick the player and then trade them

Now there's an interesting player, particularly if you buy that the dramatic improvement in his shooting is tied completely to the dramatic improvement in his shot mechanics. It certainly stands to reason. I don't know if this is valid or not but I look at him being a 75% free throw shooter and that makes me think that if he became consistently good with his shot mechanics on the floor he'd naturally end up a good shooter. That appears to have happened from 2013-14 to 2014-15.

If you buy that story, then it looks to me like he's a Heat kind of player because of his defensive potential and ability to pull down the ball and attack in a straight line. I'd either think of him as a more athletic and consistent Henry Walker, or a James Ennis with better handle.

I'm done with guys who are athletic freaks but can't shoot or play D. I want a guy who can shoot and isn't a liability on defense. Is that too much to ask for?

I'm looking at Devin Booker's 1.83 points per possession on catch-and-shoot threes where he has his feet set, and I have to tell you...my pants are getting tighter.

It's just so much what I thought was missing last year for the Heat.

Think about that. That's 61 percent when you penetrate and kick the ball back out to an open Devin Booker on the outside.

    Ray Allen. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNG.

Of course now that I say all that, if this Celtics trade is falling limp, the Hornets now take Devin Booker before Miami can get him.

The top 3 I would be looking for at 10 would be Booker, WCS then Kaminsky. Would be happy with any of those guys.

Why do people want Kaminsky so bad when we have Young Whiteside?

I mean with WCS I can kind of see it because of his D versatility. The guy played D on 1 thru 5 in college so you'll have an easy time fitting him on the floor no matter who is out there with him. He's so fast and agile and explosive at that size. He looks natural running.

But Frank Kaminsky? This dude's a center or a power forward. How do you get him, AND Bosh AND Whiteside on the floor? You don't. You just don't. He's basically Chris Bosh but slower and less athletic and not as good on D.

This guy strikes me as more folk hero than NBA prospect. But I'm still new at evaluating these guys so I don't know.

The front page on Kaminsky is this:

    - Most efficient player in the NCAA.
    - Skilled passer
    - 3pt. range
    - Array of NBA post moves
    - Strong Defensive Rebounder

    Now for the problem....

he can't guard anybody in today's NBA. He is a specialist post scorer. He is not a gifted shot blocker/rim deterrent.

There is a place for him in the NBA, but expect teams to put him in P&R after P&R till you call him to the bench.

I can post it in here.

My very educated guess is that they are scanning to see if a team is salary dumping a player that is on their watch list. 3 and D guys.

It's hard to read what Frank Kaminsky will become... if he was coming from some European league he would be a Top 5 pick... because everyone will look at the mystery factor behind him, like this guy might be good imagine if he reaches all his potential.

But since he's from here and played 3-4 seasons in Wisconsin, everyone writes off his upside, they don't think he's got much upside left. Guys like Wade that played all eligible years in college and then still have a ton of upside is very rare. And that's why Frank Kaminsky may be available at #12... If he was a RAW prospect, this guy would be Top 5, he's not raw.. his potential is difficult to read....

    His ceiling is Dirk...

middle is Josh McRoberts with less athleticism...

    floor is Christian Laettner....

Some might say Josh is his ceiling lol

If you listen to LeBatard, he'll tell you race is a factor with Kaminsky as well and he's probably right.

You compared him to 3 other white guys. and if he was black, wouldn't he be a consensus top 5 pick?

Also, the point on Wade is interesting. Coming out, he had played a bunch of positions at Marquette including PF for a stretch during the tournament. We initially wanted to make him a PG.

And going into that draft, while he certainly seemed like a scorer, I don't think a single evaluator thought he would be what he is. an all time great, top 50 player, etc.

The main issue with a guy like Kaminsky, is this..you may say, HEY, he can score..who cares about defense, we'll figure that out!

Well, your opponent will figure out that if they run 1/5 and 1/4 P&R's at him, they can get him to short circuit your entire team, by: A) scoring every time B) getting Frank in Foul trouble.

When you have a starter forcing you to go deep into your bench for more lineup combinations, it damages your overall team success.

THIS is an issue with Hassan Whiteside. He has to work on his foul issues, and become a better P&R defender, so Spo isn't always juggling his bench to find combinations.

A little different. Wade dragged a terrible Marquette team to the final 4, doing Michael Jordan impressions. Wade also had insane physical measurable's. 6'-4" 225 pounds jumping through the roof? NFL WR like shuttle drill times, etc..

    Wisconsin was LOADED.

Tell you what I'm warming to Willie Cauley-Stein purely on the basis of not passing up a potentially great player that falls, even if the fit is a little questionable.

I don't know if it would piss off Hassan Whiteside or not. It will be hard to convince Whiteside that he and Bosh and WCS would all play. But it could happen. Tantalize young Whiteside with him playing the 4 and having Willie man the middle on occasions.

I'd be happy with he or Devin Booker or Stanley Johnson. I'd have to warm up to anyone else. Granted I've not looked into Justise Winslow or some of the other guys that are supposed to be gone already.

I remember reading then that we wanted Bosh or Kick Heinrich.. lol Bosh would have been okay if he slipped to our pick.. but we don't win a championship in 2006... Kirk Hinrich though, that would mean Wade would have fallen to Chicago... and our roles would have switched with Chicago (as far as state of the franchises... Chicago with 3 more championships and us just sitting back hating Chicago and finding something lame to brag about like regular season wins and Marino beating them in '85..)

Lol, yeah I admit to wanting Kaman or TJ Ford in that draft.

I liked the Wade pick but didn't think he was a PG and we already had Eddie Jones (another lol)

Had we lost that last game of the eyar to toronto and picked 4th insetad of 5th I guarantee we would've taken Bosh.

    Would Toronto have taken Wade?

I wanted Wade after I saw him in the tournament.

My exact quote to a friend of mine when we drafted him was this:

"He is not gonna lead the league in scoring or anything, and his offensive game is limited, but he will be a defensive stopper, and consistent 15 ppg guy, maybe make a couple All-star teams"

I'm not a guy who goes nuts for summer league, but I watched Wade in his first summer league game and thought "what the hell? this guy is that good?"

He was just on another level from every single other player there.

I still tempered my enthusiasm but that's when I first thought he had a chance to be special, which eh was from pretty much Game 1
