I think this is a good signing, keep him here for one or two years he'll show the youngins the ropes, and he'll be a good target for a young QB.
Man I'm on the fence here. You gotta wonder why Dallas is letting him go. If they feel he's not gonna cut it, why do we think he will?
Well they let ZT, Traylor and JT go right? That's getting young right there. We're already young now, maybe even too young. Having vets isn't a bad thing!
i like it. prior to last year, Glenn had back to back 1,000 yd receiving seasons. what'd we have 1-1,000 yd season by a receiver this decade? i like these young guys in camp, but we're not sippin the kool-aid, we're chuggin it, if we believe all the camp blog hype, and that Bess, Camarillo, Kircus and even Hagan are all set to make a big impact in the league this year, and establish themselves as starters in the make-up of a dominant receiving corps. birng in the vet, who knows this system, and can hopefully stay healthy and contribute, at very little cost. if he stays healthy, he'll probably be our leading receiver. why? because he's the only guy whose done anything in this league.
many people have said we need veteran leadership for our young wr's. I feel if we have good coaches that know how to coach, they can show young players all they need to know, thats what they get paid to do. besides, glenn is a stop gap sorta guy. we need players that are gonna grow together as a team for many years to come.
This move doesn't particularly excite me. If we had TO on the other side of the field it might. I really hope this signing comes because Sparano/Ireland/Parcells feel there is a noticeable void at WR that Glenn could help to fill and not because they're 'ol chums so they might as well just give him a go.
Because this staff and FO are familiar with Glenn and feel that they know what he can bring to the team.
I'm very torn with the whole Glenn thing. Here's a guy who's 34 with knee problems, has had off the field issues, etc. Sounds the opposite of what a team in our position would be looking for. However, he's also had 1,000 yard seasons in 05 and 06 and does have a lot of athleticism when healthy. The major issue I have with signing Glenn is that we would have to cut one of our young WRs. Bess, Foster and Camarillo have shown a lot of potential in TC and it would really sting to see any of them go to make room for a guy who probably only has 1-2 years left, tops. Hell, Glenn could have a setback and not even finish this year. IMO, if we're sure about some of our young guys then we should pass on Glenn. I'd love to have his experience for guys like Ginn and Hagan to learn from, but it's not really worth it for such a short amount of time. I guess what it really comes down to is how many WRs we're trying to keep. Either way, I'm going to be annoyed if we have to cut one of our young guys with talent for a band-aid. We all know NE will scoop up whoever we drop anyways. Then we'd have the pleasure of watching that player rub it in our face twice a year.
I'm happy with this signing what harm can it do, he makes the receiving corps better and gives the team a very reliable set of hands.
But is it worth it to have him for only 1 maybe 2 seasons when we would be giving up a talented young player that could potentially be here for 10 years? Reliable set of hands made me think of Bess and his 1 drop during all of TC.
This move excites me...I think Glenn can come back and be very productive for us while giving guys like Ginn and Bess a great on-field mentor. The knee doesn't scare me...even if he's slower he can easily work the slot. Plus even if a guy like Foster gets cut I bet we'll be able to stash him on the practice squad. I hear about a few slash players like Foster every year it seems and they never seem to pan out so my optimism on him is quite low actually. Maybe he can be a demon on ST and earn a spot but I doubt it happens.
Ginn can learn a lot from Glenn IMO. As long as he doesn't catch Glenn's injury bug. Glenn is pretty good at having two good years then one injury riddled year. So hopefully we can get two more years out of him if he signs. I think it works wonders not for the WR but our young QBs too.
For a 1-15 team, there aren't likely to be many players we cut who won't be available for the practice squad, which is where a player like Foster would be lucky to wind up. When Jimmy Johnson first got here he signed an all-time great MLB in Jack Del Rio, come camp he got cut because a little known 5th rounder from Texas Tech named Zach Thomas was so impressive. Glenn is here if he is needed, if at the end of the roster cuts Bess or Foster prove their worth, THEN we can worry about having too much talent. Worrying about roster spots for UDFA is rather silly for a team coming off it's worst season ever.
I say we bring back Boston then get Chris Carter outta retirement to line up with Ginn and Glenn. What!?
I think that Kircus will beat out Camarillo. Foster- that guy has speed and quicks like nobody's business. I hope that he makes it- we could use another KR if Ginn is going to have an expanded role at WR.
In some capacity ?? They are WRs, perhaps some STs...How many WRs are we going to keep...5 maybe ?? Well, there's Ginn, Hagan, Willford and Glenn...that's 4...Then there's Camarillo, Kircus, Bess, Foster, Dunlop, Armstrong and Young...let's say, for arguments sake Armstrong, Young and perhaps even Dunlop are camp fodder (although, they really are in the same boat as Bess and Foster)...Camarillo and Kircus are not eligible for PS and probably have a leg up on both guys due to their time in the league...I'll ask again...do you want to cut these guys or chance stashing them on the PS to get them that experience they might need ?? No one is saying that either are the 'answer' to our WR issues, what I'm trying to say is that these guys need time to develop...even if it's on the PS, but someone is going to miss out...and it very well could be us (the team) a year or two down the road...We're not very close right now..it's time to let the younger guys develop...not toss them aside...Glenn's acquisiton won't suddenly make Beck, McCown or Henne any better than they are right now, given the state of the rest of the starters/potential starters on the offensive side of the ball... It's the same argument for letting JT go...do we keep him here, unhappy and take up a roster spot and still the team won't be significantly better for keeping him here...They chose to let him go and get somethign for the future for JT...it was a necessary and smart move to make...Adding Glenn is not a necessary or smart thing to do at this point for this team.
Well, we needed some WR help. I'd rather have someone that could finish a season, but you take what you can get, I guess. I am a bit surprised he'd come here...it's not as if we're heading for a SB this season.
Well it's no guarantee that Bess and Foster would make the team even without Glenn here so I don't see the harm. Glenn won't make the QB's immediately better but then they won't be any worse with him right? Only place to go is up
Although i wanted us to make a push for Anquan i think this is without a doubt better than nothing. Im not entirely sure how well he'll do but im glad we're giving him a try. With Ginn, Wilford, Hagan, Glenn and either Bess/Camarillo i think our recievers aren't too bad.
If he can stay healthy its a solid move, someone for the young guys like Ginn, Hagan and Camarillo to learn from. Still don't have a #1 or even a scary #2 (I know, some of you love Wilford but he hasn't even had 700 yards yet in a season and is in his late 20's). But there are young guys with talent and maybe Glenn teaches them some things that bring it out in them.
True if you are only thinking about this year..but if you are looking at next year and the years after that as well, then adding Glenn doesn't make sense, just like it didn't make sense to keep JT...Again, I'm not advocating that Bess or Foster are anything special...they probably aren't, but we won't know that unless they get the opportunity and we know what we get with Glenn...a contributor who may only have a year left in the tank, if...if...the injuries don't throw him out sooner...
