    Doubt that.

Lebby reported two were in the teens (likely meaning the two picks Boston actually had Thursday) and the other two were conditional.

Even if brooklyn's pick was among the conditional picks, the set of conditions attached to it probably made it close to worthless.

Big news from the Winslow interview with Lebby: Wade called him. Winslow said Wade didn't tell him he was staying but that has to be a good sign.

LeBatard now saying that cleveland is likely to be interested in the chalmers/Brid combo as LeBron likes both guys.

but, would we do business with Cleveland?

We could trade them for the Haywood non-guaranteed plus some useless 2nd rounders.

But those guys do help cleveland next year, particularly Rio

That sounds like a guy still acting/feeling like the face of a franchise. They obviously still have to work it out, but IMO it seems far more likely than not that he'll be here for the next few years.

Rio is nice depth when he's on the Heat and complete trash when mentioned in a trade with the Cavs. That's how this works.

Ramona Shelbourne reporting that Wade is looking for $16 million per year.

If that's accurate, let's make a deal at 3/45 and get this done.

    What's the problem?

I don't think it's a question of if Wade is gonna play for the Heat, it's how bad is he gonna screw up FA plans for next summer. And he'll most likely still work something out that gives the Heat the flexibility they want.

This was fun for a bit seems like it isn't hard to see how it ends - Wade caves quite a bit, the Heat offer him enough of a concession that he feels like this whole charade was worth it, and the Heat retain the cap space they want for next year.

    free agent plans?

We have Dragic, Deng, Winslow, Bosh and Whiteside. Don't dismiss the talent we already have in place, we don't need any major free agents to compete right away, Spoelstra has got to install his system in place, we got to build that bench and we're set to take over the East soon.

I don't disagree - I think you should take that roster and try to build some depth and shooting.

But all I keep hearing is needing max space for Durant next summer.

Woj reporting that Knicks front runners for Afflalo and his deal might average $12 million per year.

When you see that, you understand Wade's point/frustration.

But of course if the Knicks do sign him, that's another team that won't sign Wade.

Lebby has Amin el-Hassin on all show and he made a really great point: Maybe the Heat is better off letting Wade test the market, see there's nothing out there and then come back hat in hand.

Now, the ehat probably don't want to do that, but it is an option.

This is one of the reasons the next CBA is gonna be so interesting - will owners have as much in-fighting or talk about player power / control? Can't help but feel like there's a slim chance we'll even see a 2017 season the way the new Union leader is talking.

To save $50 million in taxes?

That kind of things tends to change people's minds.

Though there should be other teams interested. Those guys are serviceable rotation pieces who are not making a ton of money and are expiring contracts.

    Aldridge is staying btw

The total tax bill for the Heat allowing for $18mil a year for Dragic and the MAX for Wade is around $48 to $54mil.

Dumping RIO and Bird saves Micky around $16mil in taxes.

Yes..I think he pays the $16mil to **** over Gilbert.

or maybe we just trade them elsewhere?

Aldridge is a goner it seems. Sucks for Portland and their great fans.

Michael Wallace tweeting that Lakers/Bucks/Pistons and Knicks expected to make OR GET class from Wade's people.

Given that language, it seems to me that Henry Thomas is having to drum up interest rather than interest being there.

Lakers no longer make sense following the Russell signing, Knicks look like they're signing Afflalo and the other two, well....

I did consider the Bucks just because of the Marquette connection and the fact that such a connection is about the only way they could ever get a star of Wade's caliber to go there, but I doubt that happens. They may not even be in Milwaukee much longer. it's an under reported story, but their new arena fight is not going well and they're about to miss an NBA deadline for having a deal.

Either one of those works for me depending on the opponent. I like having that unit that can shut down the opponent for long stretches. I see that as one of the keys to winning a championship, assuming of course that you also have enough offense. If Whiteside can learn to play without fouling so much his rim protection and rebounding make that first line-up strong especially if they have a big. Against a small team that second option would provide a ton of perimeter defense. I think it's fair to question how much Winslow will develop offensively or if his shot will be consistent, but I don't have any doubts that he can be a defensive stopper. He'll just have to learn to avoid fouls and build the rep to get the calls from the refs. You could put Winslow, Deng or Wade on an opponent's best perimeter offensive threat and neutralize them pretty well. Rio seems great at defending the P/R, but I think he's a step down on ball. Still good, but a step down.

I think the savings for trading Rio/Birdman if the Heat pay max to Dragic and Wade is a lot more than $16M. Not only will they be saving the ~$10M off their contract, but the repeater tax penalty on that $10M.

Though like you said, they can always trade them to another team.

Edit: I see now that you specified $16M in "taxes." My bad.

Seeing people throw out potential lineups...damn this team should be fun to watch. Some of them don't even include Dragic and/or Whiteside! The versatility 1-4 could really be something. And we're talking about a bunch of physically STRONG dudes with quickness who can guard multiple positions and mix it up in the paint and aren't a liability on the glass. C'mon Wade!

Still can't believe we drafted him at TEN. So awesome. To keep the party going, here's a vid from NBAtv. 1:10-2:05 there's a nice Winslow cut-up. Even though it's only 4 plays, whoever picked them did a nice job showing the ways he contributes outside the common scouting report, glimpses into areas he could develop. Notice on the two offensive plays (takes the guy on the block for one, straight off the bounce on the other) he finishes with his off-hand (right) with nice touch and a little creativity. And though he gets deserved credit for his on-ball work, his defensive IQ is HIGH - he sees plays develop and sticks his nose in. Here he sees they're going to dump it to the big in a mismatch, so he drifts off his man and forces a turnover. He's always in the right place, and his feel and timing for turnovers is Wade-like. Also notice that all these plays are from the tournament; he improved a ton throughout the season, forcing Coach K to start calling more sets for Winslow to just go get his.

Cavs fans.....I got something for you....

Kevin Love will take a visit with the Lakers. MAYBE a visit with Portland.

But he is VERY likely to sign a 1 year Max deal with the Cavs with a player option, with the express understanding that they will sign and trade him to the team of his choosing if things "don't work out".

Team of his choosing probably means a no trade clause will be in place I guess. Well the Cavs will likely accept the demands anyways, not like they clear any space if he leaves on his own. They have no choice.

Mike Miller opted in for them. Even at 2.8 million seems kind of expensive for doing nothing.

Yeah, he's gone if you listen "random western conference executive"

Trust me I watched enough of dorrell wright in the past two years that you do not want to give him consistent minutes. Although maybe that's what he needs, he never got that in portland cos he was trash

Edit: ok it could go either way regarding Aldridge but a lot of the media reports have been completely false and most people are believing them. Woj says down to pdx and San Antonio. I feel like this will be like bosh and houston
