Are they going to give Mozgov a max next year to and have almost $300 million tied up in 3 non-complete front court players?
Some will call me a bitter Heat fan but I don't get the love for Kevin Love. He's just a stat-padder.
Ramona Shelbourne says Goran Dragic told Pat Riley he was willing to take less money to help the team re-sign Wade.
Love is a terrific offensive player, but he sucks on defense and David Blatt never figured out what to do with him. Maybe another year together, they'll make it work better. But still. The numbers for both guys are ridiculous. Pick one. If you could mash the skills of Thompson and Love together, you'd have Anthony Davis, but you can't. And again, how do they sign Mozgov next year? They will probably still be over even the exploded cap.
They have his bird rights... Gilbert will be paying a ****load of tax but Mozgov will get paid. All this free agency tells me is that the owners are bsing big time about how much money they profit from their teams.
That's a good deal or Love because he has more trade value now on a set contract. If it doesn't workout with the Cavs, he is easily traded with a set max contract at the 15' Cap.
I really don't like the make-up of that cavs team. I'm a big believer in the importance of having a top defense to be a legit championship contender. I don't think they can be a top defense against a team that goes small. Love has never been a great or even good defender. Irving is good but has been injured in H.S., college and in the pros. I don't know that he'll ever be a guy you can rely on for a full season. I thought even James was a bit of a liability on defense in those finals. There may be some truth to the idea that he may be declining in that aspect of his game. I do love Thompson's defensive game and I like Mosgov, but that and some scrappy play from Delly isn't going to get it done.
It's karma for Gilbert trying to screw the Heat when James left Cleveland. He pounded the table for a punitive luxury tax and now he'll probably end up paying more of it than anybody else. LOL
His contract is a ****ing bargain. And he has too much skills in his arsenal. We need him in the rotation, can play the 4 or 5 when Bosh or Whiteside needs rest... We're going to shed about 15 million once Chalmers, Bird and Haslem come off the books next season.. we'll be able to get something else to fill out our team next season..
Lineups w Love and Tristan were really really good last year. Tristan probably more important long term than Mozgov. Wouldn't be surprised if they let Mozzy go next year.
To win a championship...yes...they lack those metrics.. But their offense can be good enough for a big win total and the clear #1 seed in the east and thus another Finals berth. Their alternatives (options) were not good ones. Tear down what is succesful and "hope" to supplant what you lose? No. Cavs have done right thing so far, including making Love an easily traded asset.
Damn It. Celtics made a great signing. Amir Johnson. Very nice pickup..to swoop in after Raptors "renounce" his rights to fit Lou Williams "over" the cap.
You're probably right in terms of their alternatives. I just don't like their odds of beating the WCC with that line-up. I also think that Miami with their expected roster may end up being better. I'm sure the media won't see it that way. And we'll need health and Whiteside and Winslow to learn to play without fouling, but if those occur I'm really optimistic about the Heat.
I love the Heat's starting 5 - but I think they need a bit more depth to be scary in the playoffs. Kinda what we just saw with the Cavs in the Finals. Which brings me back to quit worrying about Durant and using that space to bring in a few pieces to put around that starting unit (SHOOTERS).
Tim Reynolds reporting that when the final numbers for dragic come in, the total will be closer to $85 rather than $90 and that he has bought in to the Heat culture of "sacrifice"
That's amazing. Everyone said it was all about the money with him. Guess that wasn't the case. Or if it was, Riley changed that.
Boik is gonna ****. Adam Kennedy is reporting that Jeremy Lin and the Knicks are a "thing" again. Corresponded with a NY media type..and he thinks it will happen.
Why would the Lakers bring Kobe in the room is the head scratcher for me. You sell Aldridge on DeAngelo russell, cap space for another free agent when Kobe's contract expires. Afterwards if you want to bring back Kobe for cheap, you do so. But this isn't 2006, it's no longer Kobe's team yet the Buss family treats him like it is. Wow.
Ramona Shelburne says when Aldridge asked Kobe how he thought they would play together he referenced it would be like when Pau Gasol was there... Yeah... wrong answer Kobe.
Because Kobe good and bad ( mostly bad now ) is the Lakers. For some reason he has them by the balls.
