I'd love to get Amare today as well. I think Amare/Green is a clear upgrade from Bird/Rio, particularly offensively. You give something up on the defensive end, but that can be covered up a lot easier
Per Tim Reynolds and Ken Berger Heat got Green for the MINIMUM Riley is king. Let's get Amare, and we could still get Thornton as well. We might be stacked by the end of the day
This is not Homer/Cavs hate talk..but seriously.. Shumpert for $40 Million or Gerald Green for the minimum? I don't think there is a fan out there that would take Shump (and I like Shump, A LOT)
Wow, I ask for Green and Riley delivers. I love the pickup. Like Schmolioot said, let's go get Amare now and then you not only have a stacked starting 5, but you have a nice bench as well.
Really like Green. Hoping he has a great year this year with a lot more minutes than he got at Phoenix.
Wow I was lobbying for Green a week ago but didnt think we had the money for it and we get him at the minimum LOL
Whatever. Is there any argument that those are the two best guys? Though I imagine Pop has a lot to do with SA's moves.
From Realgm Gerald Green 2013-14 SEASON: Appeared in all 82 games (48 starts) in his seventh NBA season, averaged a career-best 15.8 points along with 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks in 28.4 minutes
Albert Nahmad saying Gerald Green signing actually saves half a million if Heat get rid of Walker. Billiam, he gone!
130 instances guarding the Pick and Roll..taking the Ball Handler: Ballhandlers off the P&R, shot 32.4% vs. Green. (Well above league average) 72 Instances guarding Isolation: Players shot 37.5% vs. Green (Slightly above League Average) Defensive Dashboard (Below League Average): http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/101123/tracking/defense/ Offense: Catch and Shoot Three: 37.3% Left Corner: 35.3% Right Corner: 33.9% Above the Break: 36.1%
Well done, I like Green. Crazy athletic, explosive in transition, shot's getting more consistent, bball IQ is meh, handle is meh, good length and athleticism but not a good defender, can get hot and seriously fill it up for a quarter. Basically on offense you get a legit, proven version of James Ennis...who I imagine will be pushed aside here.
Or to a lesser extent (sorry Boik), Afflalo 2 years at $18M or Green at the minimum? They shot almost the same 3pt % and FG % and Green's PER was almost 5 points higher.
Yeah, beyond Rio and Bird, Walker and probably ennis are goners Also, TJ broke his jaw and it out a while. That gives Napier a BIG opportunity to seize that backup PG job. Though with guys like Luke Ridnour now free for probably the minimum, it wouldn't shock me if we went that route
Welcome to Miami Gerald: One of my all-time favorite dunk competition dunks.
Heat still in on Marcus Thornton...which means the Heat is trying to build a pretty high powered offense that suits Spo's style. it also means that Napier is probably safe...but one of Rio/TJ will likely go. On the wing...Ennis is now under pressure to show something, be traded, or languish at the back of the roster. He now becomes a bubble guy. Obvious that they are OUT on every wing player besides Winslow, and Richardson on Summer League. Zoran Dragic is the 6th guard at best now.
I don't think Ennis is a goner. You still need to round out the roster and he's making nothing. He's probably out of the rotation at this point, though. As for Napier, I still have hope for him. Even when he struggled last year, he showed natural point guard skills. If his shot starts falling (and considering what a good shooter he was in college, that shouldn't be an unreasonable expectation), he could be a solid backup PG. I think he just needs to get a little more comfortable with the NBA game and take care of the ball a little better. Even before TJ's injury I had higher hopes for Napier than TJ at PG.
So right now we have: C: whiteside/Bird PF: Bosh/McBob/UD SF: Deng/Green SG: Wade/Winslow PG: Dragic/Napier I include UD as a lock since I'm certain he's not going anywhere. That leaves on 4 slots. Right now I'd say Richardson is close to a lock. That leaves TJ/Zoran/Ennis and the rest of the summer league guys fighting. I still would bet on Rio/Bird being traded
TJ is only partially guaranteed, and that guarantee is activated August 1. I think TJ is in big, big trouble. Too bad. Liked him quite a bit
Roster's getting tight. Reed and Richardson have to be there, imo. I don't see how Ennis cracks it, honestly, with the additions of these other swing/wing types, this being his third year and a rookie in Richardson flashing a bit more. TJ's in a tough spot. Breaks his jaw in the midst of a position change that he clearly needs reps for. Frustrating. He needs to play more ball, I think, to work on his feel for the floor and offense, especially now that he'd be pretty much locked into PG. We'll see if Napier can keep playing like he did yesterday. Like someone said, he has the offensive upside especially with how he is historically as a jump shooter. This summer is make-or-break, imo, as he'll have a ton of opportunities. Still meeting with Thornton too. Then yeah, the question of Rio and Bird. Even beyond money, Rio seems more expendable now based on more ballhandler options, guys who slot into the 2, and other perimeter guys who bring similar defensive ability; and he's not really an ideal backup PG, which seems like it'd be his clearcut role. It's tough. Still some stuff to be sorted out. But damn this team could be deep.
So going back to my previous post, he will actually make less money rather than the same because he didn't get that extra year. And he can say he wants to be a FA at that time, but he'll be 30 and is a guy that's entire game is based off of his athleticism. Is he going to get the max then?
Goran officially signs his contract I am sure Wade will either sign today, or get his own "moment" tomorrow.
If Riley snags Thornton and Stoudemire as well I don't know what I'll do with myself. Green on a minimum? I guess I shouldn't even by surprised at this point.
Based on these moves and likely ones to come, I could absolutely see them using Winslow in that point guard/forward role pretty regularly. He's got the skills, quickness, and obviously IQ to potentially be effective. Dragic doesn't have a 'true' proven backup, and they may be looking for ways to get Justise minutes along with these other wing types. Obviously we'll have to see who ultimately sticks and how the rotations settle, but I won't be at all surprised to see them continue putting Winslow in these situations more and more this summer to see how he fares and adjusts. (Didn't they draft Wade with the intention of having him at PG?)
Dragic PC streaming on heat.com at 12:30. Now I'm sure Wade signs tomorrow and gets a whole extravaganza.
Tim Duncan signs for 2 years with a player option on the 2nd year for a total of $10.4 million. Sent from my XT1068 using Tapatalk
He'll get his minutes in. And if history is any indication, he'll make them count. Aldridge has a real opportunity to learn from the best, Duncan and Popovich.
Lamarcus Aldridge is a 30 year old heading into his 10th year. He is formed. He is not learning anything.
