As I've been saying for quite awhile, there is simply too much competition for time and dollar in Florida.

the worst venue in sports, any sport, in the US, def boosted this rating over the past 30 years. It simply does not in the least engage the fan to the action.

    Here's the actual study:
    https://scholarblogs.emory.edu/esma/files/2014/03/AMP-Fan-Equity.pdf

They basically have a simple statistical model that predicts revenue for a team based on team performance and "market potential", and then they say that the more revenue a team gets relative to predicted, the better its fans are.

I think the weakness in this study is in how they define market potential: they only use local population size as a measure of it. Importantly, they don't account for differences in income among different populations, meaning big market teams where fans just happen to live in expensive areas (e.g. NYC) will naturally get a higher ranking because revenue will be higher per fan. Credit to them though to at least point this out (buried in the paper..).

So.. the best fans are: Cowboys, Patriots, Giants, Ravens, Jets; and the worst fans are: Bills, Jags, Raiders, Browns, Dolphins. With the exception of the Raiders, all the teams with the "worst" fans tend to live in lower median income areas, so I'm not sure this is really measuring how intense the fanbase is (they explicitly say their goal is to measure the intensity of the fanbase).

There's very few people who, when deciding whether to go to the game or not, decide not to because they don't like the stadium.

Having been to both, the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (Raiders, Oakland A's), is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH worse than Sun Life.

Regardless of this study, I think that we may be unique in the NFL, and perhaps all of North American pro sports, in having a relatively small, "weak", and apathetic fan base within the team's home market, but a very strong one nationally/internationally.

Think about it, there are NFL teams that are poplar both locally and nationally. (Steelers, Cowboys)
Ones that are popular locally, but not nationally. (Colts, Bills, Vikings, ect)
And ones that aren't really all that popular anywhere (Jags, Bucs, Rams, ect)

But is there another team like us? Where the dedicated, diehard fans are for the most part, outiside of the home market? Where the difference is so stark? I can't think of one. Nationally, the strength of our fanbase is in the top half of the league minimum, and perhaps still the top third. Locally, its easily the bottom third, and maybe the bottom five. I'd love to be able to look at the Sunday Ticket stats of who watches which games outside of the local market. The data would be really cool.

Guys, this "study" put the Browns fans, who stick with their crappy team though think and thin, as one of the worst and the Cowboys fans, who are the very definition of "fair-weather fans", as one of the best. And the same with the NE fans

What the hell does that tell you about this "study"?

Also, you put the stadium out in the everglades(used to be part of) and that's what we get...when we were in the Orange Bowl, it was in the heart of Miami....many could walk to the game...a lot of them will not drive to JRS@the Ross. Also, a great many fans of ours has moved from the area...I know some of my relatives moved...so a lot of us have to travel to the games and it is very hard for a family of 4 to be able to afford the $450 to go to the games.

You must of been pretty hammered.

Metal bleachers and wide open seats in freezing wind and blizzard isn't ideal imo.

wth are you talking about, do you think I'm talking about comfort and sh&& like that.. I'm not, the orange bowl was a dump... Get where I'm coming from. Atmosphere, intimacy, proximity from the fans to the field is what it's all about... So yes your right sun life is much prettier and nicer for the family... Cool

Because the Bills were getting wined and dined by other markets because of stadium issues..along comes New owners and they are investing in the fans of Buffalo and updating the stadium to make them a much better option for resale if they so choose..Point is...they are doing it to keep the Bills in Buffalo.

You must want me to say because it is an intimate stadium with great fans that are all closer to the field... which is all true...Also, what else is there to do in Buffalo? LOL.

Very little. Even dumber is the fact that their stadium is in Orchard Park which is in the middle of nowhere and has pretty much nothing near it.

Why they didn't put it downtown or closer to the waterfront, who the hell knows.

I also guess that this study does not include where we rank, in the top 5 for most fans of any team throughout the world as was posted earlier I believe...I wonder how much was spent on this study...and who funded it.

That's ridiculous. All of South Florida used to be the Everglades. The stadium is pretty central for most of the South Florida population base. There was never any major contingent of people who were within walking distance of the Orange Bowl. That area never had tremendously high population density and certainly not from the demographic of people who went to most games. 95%+ of those who went to games at the Orange Bowl drove there and parking was atrocious.

A lot of fans have moved from every single NFL city. South Florida is not unique in that regard. And Dolphin tickets are more reasonably priced than many other NFL teams' tickets. But no NFL team really has cheap tickets that make a family of 4 going to a game an inexpensive outing. One certainly can spend $450 for a family of 4 to go to a Dolphin game, but you can also spend around $200-225. Stadium location and prices have very little to do with it. Very few NFL teams have real downtown stadiums. Most are further from downtown than Sun Life is.

even dumber, owner builds a football stadium where the stands are farther away from the field that in any other stadium in the league, to accommodate soccer.

Look, it seems like you like to contradict my post' regularly....I was raised in the area...I damn sure know what I am talking about as I have been going to games regularly for A very long time...go to the site and find me tickets to the game for 4 with Parking as I am disabled, food & drink for 4 while at the Stadium, not even mentioning tolls on the Pike and gas....all for $225 you do that and I do appreciate you doing that for me ...Thank you, it is so kind of you...Also, I would almost guarantee you that more Dolphin fans have moved from Miami, than have moved to Miami..Yes, Parking was bad at the Orange Bowl but I never had a problem finding a parking place although they were not the greatest....but I will tell you what, it is no picnic parking in the North 40 at our current stadium...30-40 minute walk just to get to the gates..I really don't see any merit to your argument....maybe you don't know that I am a lifetime fan since 66 and have always lived in SE Central Florida since birth and have gone to many, many games.
