I bet him $50 that the Dolphins would end the regular season with a better record than the Steelers. Am I crazy to make that bet? Or am I an Evil Genius? We've been best friends since High School and make bets with each other frequently about many different things. He lives with his wife in Texas and is a Cowboys fan. His thoughts are that ever since he's known me I almost always get pumped up and optimistic about the upcoming Dolphins season, only to be let down year after year (does this sound familiar to anyone reading this? ). He laughed his *** off when I KNEW the Dolphins were going to draft Todd Gurley. I mean, no running back chosen in the first round the previous two drafts, he's coming off of a major ACL injury and may not be ready for week 1, then there's Melvin Gordon with his superhuman work ethic coming off a season where he damn near broke Barry Sanders single season rushing yardage record ALL-TIME, and he is 100% healthy. It's a slam dunk, right??? So he definitely had a great case to make that bet with me. History does repeat itself. But, I just feel different this year. I just feel like the stars are aligning for us finally, and I expect us to make a deep playoff run this season. This is the best team on paper I've seen since probably 1994 with Dan Marino and an insane amount of 1st round picks on our roster. What do you all think of this bet? Do we win the gold? Or will it be fool's gold for me again?
I think you're OK...fair bet either way. After the 1-15 season, a bud at work bet the Dolphins would have a better record than the Cowboys (since we live in Texas and surrounded by bandawagoneers)...100 bucks...BAM! You just never know, but I agree about this season's outlook.
You don't have this option in the poll, but I'd say "too close to call.. but I'd make the bet". Vegas thinks it's approximately 50/50 who wins that bet, with the slight edge going to the Dolphins. I myself have one with a diehard Bengals fan for $25 (same relative odds as yours btw).
I think the Steelers are a playoff team. Im not sure what we are. Id say you got a 30% chance of winning.
Yeah, I agree. I think it is a fair bet for both of us. I just truly believe this is the year we get the respect we've been wanting from the media and everyone else. Unless due to injury, I expect us to have one hell of a season and win our division. And really it's not about the money. It's about us getting to trash talk each other all season. LOL
That's a great idea, and I already PM'd Paul to see if he would add that answer to my poll question. Well done sir.
It will be close, but I think it's a safe bet. The Steelers should win at least 5 or 6 games guaranteed on their schedule, two each against the Browns and Bengals, and then against the Raiders and Rams. Good luck!
I think that the teams are fairly close as to talent, but that the Steelers are better than all three of their division rivals, whereas we're probably not better than New England when they're at full strength, and are not as much better than either the Jets or Bills as the Steelers are the Browns. I give the Steelers the big edge in coaching as well, and they just resigned Omar Epps for a few more years, so that's not hanging over his head any more. Because of that, I think that the Steelers have the better shot at the better record. I'd say 80/20 Pittsburgh. However, in the series of season predictions that I've done, I keep having both teams in the playoffs. Everything said, I'm not the kind to gamble anyways. You could bet me that the Fins would have a better record than the Jaguars, and I wouldn't take it. P.S. I also get a lot of flack from my friends and family who are Steeler fans. My brother in law asks me every stinking year if I'm divorcing the Fins and switching sides "yet".
It isn't that the Dolphins aren't good, and that they don't have a decent schedule; it's that IMO the Steelers competition in their division has taken a step back. They may actually sweep their division rivals this year. yes, the Ravens as well. However....Ben isn't the ironman he once was. Gradkowski wouldn't take them far. If Ben stays healthy, they may win a lot of games. Dolphins could make the playoffs this year and you may still lose your bet.
Well, the Bengals had the same record last year as the Steelers (11-5), and the Ravens whooped some Steeler *** in the playoffs. So I think it should be closer than you anticipate. But, I understand your line of thinking.
Why do you think the Ravens and Bengals took a step back this year? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am a Dolphin homer....so are you. We always have high exectations. One of these days we will put it alltogether and win another one of those trophies in my avatar.Hopefully this year.
just updated it... sorry a tad late.. next time try reporting the post and one of the other mods may be able to get to it quicker, thanks.
I bet a buddy, at his insistence, on a Dolphins-Vikings bet. He wanted wins losses, but I was like. "Philbin, so no." Instead I bet him that our aggregate point-differential would be better than theirs. Both teams have good offenses (especially with them having AP back), and their D has some talent, but I think our D could be elite. Good bet or bad bet?
I actually like the Vikings as a sleeper team this year. I do think we'll be better though. As for the Steelers. It should be close. Pitt is one of those teams that could be average or really good year to year. I'm not impressed with their defense but I love their coaching. I'm predicting us to be about 10-6. I think both Pittsburgh and Minnesota will be around 8-8 to 9-7. We shall see.
I miss my WV rent. I about **** when I moved to VA and it was three times higher for the same kind of place.
I made same bet but against eagles.I still have an outside chance at a wash but I doubt it.Moral of the story.Never and I mean never bet with this team as long as dumbo is the owner.
