    Good, we didn't need him.

Matt Moore is perfect for the role of "bench quarterback that can outperform and bench Tannehill." Having two of those is just overkill and inefficient.

I think we all knew this was coming. Im actually surprised we didn't keep him through camp/preseason for an arm I'm practice and late in games.

Wonder if he's had another "issue".

I guess he wasn't all that serious about turning his career around. I hate seeing talented players just piss it all away.

I remember a couple years ago when he was still with Tampa Bay, and they were playing a MNF game. Jon Gruden was buttering him up all night, analyzing every down he played, talking about how he makes great decisions, and that he would be among the elite qb's in a couple years. Sorry Jon, I don't think so.

It was a stupid signing that made no sense to begin with. Matt Moore was always going to be the backup QB.

And? Matt Moore is on a year deal and we can't continue to pay him millions while re-signing our other players next season. Josh Freeman could of been the #3 QB groomed to be the #2 next season after spending a year in Lazor's offense.

You must have missed the part where I said Josh Freeman sucks. LOL

I still think we should have traded up into the early 4th or late 3rd round and drafted Bryce Petty. Either way we should have picked up a QB either somewhere in the draft or signed an UDFA to groom. Josh Freeman?? Please...

And I don't agree he sucks. He has shown ability to play. His big issues are off the field. Which clearly, he didn't correct. And I'd rather have our entire draft class from the 3rd round on (including Stills) than Petty... Miami had nothing to lose by signing Freeman.

It really wasn't stupid at all actually. Remember the disaster that was watching Seth Lobato throwing in preseason and camp last year. Pretty hard to evaluate your roster bubble guys if nobody can get them the ball.

So, why not give a talented guy the chance to turn his career around, and use him in the process. If it works out, the Dolphins are laughing. If it doesnt they cut him as they did.

No harm, no foul. No stupidity. Well...

    Maybe there is some..
    Agreed.

Exactly and a far less expensive option

I always prefer an experienced 3rd Qb, the idea that an unknown #3 Qb is somehow going to blow everyone away never pans out in reality. I'd happily call up another vet sitting on his couch somewhere to come on down and give it a go over an obscure Qb

Its a shame. I had no real expectation of him making the team but I was hoping to have a quality 3rd stringer trying to show the league he still had the skills to play in the NFL in the preseason. I was really hoping to see him play so we had a better way to evaluate the WR's at the bottom of the roster, last year it was unfair with Seth Lobato throwing them the ball, that was some of the worst QB play I've ever seen.

Has anyone reported on the Freeman release? I have not heard why they cut him...was he having problems learning the playbook? Thanks.

You don't have to think too hard about why they would cut a Josh Freeman. He just wasn't all that good. He hasn't been good in years, was only good for a very short time in Tampa when you get down to it, and reports flowed from his OTAs and mini camps that he was terrible.

I have heard that prior to signing Freeman, the Dolphins were on the verge of an agreement to acquire Matt Barkley from the Philadelphia Eagles. Supposedly the Eagles were set to sign Tim Tebow to replace Barkley after they traded him, but then the Dolphins backed out of the trade and decided to sign Josh Freeman (Hickey's guy) instead. The reason this all came up is because word came out about the Eagles' intentions with Tim Tebow a good bit before they actually went ahead and signed him, and so some local guys up there dug around trying to figure out what the delay was in getting Tebow signed. This was their explanation, that the Eagles were on the verge of trading Barkley to the Dolphins but that the trade fell through and the Dolphins chose Freeman instead, which caused the Eagles to delay their signing Tebow.

Acquiring Barkley would have made sense for Miami, depending on how much you trust Bill Lazor's opinion. Lazor personally scouted Barkley, flying out to the west coast to run him through a personal workout during the draft process. I assume he gave him a fairly high grade as the Eagles had Matt as a Top 50 player on their draft board. He was attached at the hip with Matt during his rookie year, noted by reporters to be the quarterback who was consistently huddled with Lazor the most. They had a pre-game ritual as well where Lazor would go out on the field with Matt while he threw 90 to 100 balls to some of the inactive players. Every game they did that. During some of the interviews I've seen I thought Lazor went a little beyond the default generalized praise that you normally see with coaches and players. He kind of took personal exception to the ideas that Barkley doesn't have a strong enough arm and consistently stated he thinks Matt will be a guy that can put it all together and be a starter.

I noted all this about Lazor and Barkley back in August 2014 and even concluded back then that if Lazor had his way, Barkley would be in Miami developing as the third quarterback. I don't think it's a coincidence that you fast-forward a year and there are reports that Miami and Philadelphia were zeroing in on a deal to send Barkley to Miami but that the Dolphins made a decision to go with the free acquisition of Josh Freeman instead.

All that said, this doesn't mean Miami will go out and get Barkley. Maybe they will. But maybe their position that they're not willing to give trade compensation for a third string quarterback hasn't changed. Maybe they will try and wait to see if the Eagles cut Barkley after training camp and preseason. Maybe they've decided they don't want any quarterback taking up a third roster spot at the position, and want someone practice squad eligible.

Wow, lol..you might be right Alex. I would like to know what in the heck is happening here. Also, if it does not cost too much, very minimal compensation, I would like to see Barkley come in and eventually unseat Matt Moore as the backup in a cost saving move. Lastly, if we really are interested in a trade for Barkley, I wish we would make the deal to get him in here so he can go through the whole TC with us. I like Barkley better than Freeman and McLeod Bethel-Thompson.

This is good news, very good news!

Best case scenario: Freeman is featured by the Dolphins in preseason and he lights it up, making him a trade possibility or giving the Dolphins the option to carry a much cheaper number 2 going forward.

    This is LOL-level weird.

Having to cut a guy and then sign him a few days later because of a contract snafu means someone screwed up. Hopefully the original deal contained no up front money or guarantees.

I think its likely, they had a surprise roster spot open with the one guy retiring, and thought why not bring another camp arm back.

The narrative is to make this weird, but its not really.

9:30 a.m. Tuesday: Five days after releasing quarterback Josh Freeman, the Dolphins re-signed him. So why the change of heart?

The Dolphins wanted to keep him all along, but because of a clause in his contract, the Dolphins are at less risk financially by doing it this way: cutting him and then re-signing him. That eliminated a financial obligation that Miami otherwise would have had.

    - From Barry Jackson this morning.
