    All of a sudden this is turning really sad. Might we be witnessing the fall of Tom Brady....or a fall of the NFL?

    Cheating is a big deal in sports and it should be dealt with, I'm completely on board, but this has just become a legal issue. This was all a matter of deflating a few footballs, it's now going to Federal court.

    Really, really hope a better solution is found. Really hope Brady doesn't somehow ruin his life through this. Even if the League is wrong in this, it's easy to see why they think they're right. The Pats as a team have accepted the punishment. I'm loathe to tell a man to just put up with injustice if that's really what this is, and if he's right, and nothing ever happened, then I'd support him in that. But if this did happen, or even if there's a deeper, bigger reason he destroyed that phone, he should just let it go.
    :(

    Slow down there, buddy. No one's life is being ruined here. Tom Brady's won 4 Super Bowls, made millions of dollars and is a hero to millions of people in the Northeast and across the world. He'll recover nicely from all this. And his wife is hot and richer than him!

    He's going to be suspended, serve his suspension, the NFL will be fine. You're overreacting a bit much. Lots of players get suspended, cheating happens in every sport in almost every team. Everyone will move on and the interest in the NFL will remain high.

    If I were his attorney, I'd advise, in a very diplomatic way, he ought to just make a self-serving public statement stating that while he's innocent (*guffaw*), he will not further oppose the suspension so that the team can deal with what it has in front of them rather than wait to see whether he'll be able to play or not. I'd also emphasize just how crappy it looks for him to have destroyed his phone the very day that he was to meet with the investigator and that NO ONE is going to believe he just happened to destroy his phone on that date as a matter of routine security.

    Nope. His attorney is guns blazing:

    That's the key here. What did he present? We'll see.

    I think I might cry if they still win the division & we miss the playoffs. It's been like this for 15 years, growing optimism turns into bitter sorrow.

    The division would be laughed at. Lose star QB for 4 games and still win it. They'd have to tie one hand behind their back.

    We better win the division.

    I know no-one's life is being ruined at this point. However, things are escalating to a grand scale and once stuff gets put out there it doesn't go back in. This is the sort of scenario and scale where lives do get permanently altered. It might not happen. But if it does, one has to ask, was it worth it?

    It might have three of the five toughest defenses in the NFL, that's nothing to laugh at.

    Thats a bit of a false choice IMO. Would he have none of those things if he didn't cheat?

    At this point, his political career is very much in danger. His legacy has been heavily damaged.

    I'm not sure Brady had much of a political career. He might be smart on the football field, but he appears to be dumb as **** off it and has seemingly relied on some very suspect advice.

    Oh I strongly believe we'll win the div this year and not b/c of the pats* latest scandal. But b/c we have the better talent. It's funny though. I guess brady's actions contradicts the belief that "a tiny bit of cheating is small potatoes."

    I think Brady taking this to court is only going to cause more distraction. If Kraft is smart he tells Brady to let it go. If today was March, going to the court might work out. But we are reaching August, youre not going to get an answer from a judge till possibly Week 5 for gods sakes, so you might as well serve the suspension since nothing is going to change. And you can act like Tonya Harding screaming that youre innocent hoping someone will buy in till Week 5.

    Apparently they presented a phone that Tom had up till November 2014. They showed that phone and stress that they destroyed the phone he had from November 2014 thru early March of this year...
    They were missing all the electronic data that was current with the AFC Conference game...

    Link is on Post # 41 of the thread...

    As to why the NFL found suspect that Brady destroys phones after he uses them, there is this same nugget...

    November to the time of the AFC game, those texts would be captured from the two staff that were interviewed, no? Not absolving Brady here, but unless the NFL believes he was texting someone else about deflation there shouldn't be a huge hole in data.

    Brady should have/could have just deleted any bad texts. Not hard to do. I do that regularly on my iphone because text messages surprisingly take up a crap load of space. 4gbs on my phone right now.

    Oh well, this will play itself out. Either he misses 4 games, or he doesn't. Looking like he does. Time to take advantage.

    NFLPA statement

    NFLPA statement on Tom Brady suspension:
    "The Commissioner's ruling today did nothing to address the legal deficiencies of due process. The NFL remains stuck with the following facts:
    The NFL had no policy that applied to players;
    The NFL provided no notice of any such policy or potential discipline to players;
    The NFL resorted to a nebulous standard of "general awareness" to predicate a legally unjustified punishment;
    The NFL had no procedures in place until two days ago to test air pressure in footballs; and
    The NFL violated the plain meaning of the collective bargaining agreement.
    The fact that the NFL would resort to basing a suspension on a smoke screen of irrelevant text messages instead of admitting that they have all of the phone records they asked for is a new low, even for them, but it does nothing to correct their errors.
    The NFLPA will appeal this outrageous decision on behalf of Tom Brady.

    -- NFL Players Association"

    Bold part is interesting. Were they provided with everything they asked for? How could they be, if Brady destroyed the phone.

    Or...they'll still do fine with Grappalo (which I fully expect)...and further show it's about the system/HC more than it is the faux-elite QB.

    Policy, procedure, process...WTF ever...I'm sure they have a rule that says you can't conduct yourself in a manner that is detrimental to the NFL, or some such generality. Can't escape that one.

    Btw i know for a fact Goodl didnt want to uphold the suspension and was pressured by colleagues and media to do it. One day a high NFL executive will write a book about the behind the scenes of what went on when they were discussing this suspension and they will tell us how pathetic Goodell was begging to let him take away Brady's suspension.

    He probably sent a text to Kraft apologizing and then told Kraft to have Brady break his phone afterwards to get rid of evidence of the text.

    I personally doubt NE would win 4 Super Bowls (and go to 6) in the last 15 years without Brady. In fact, I doubt they'd have won a single one. No way to know of course, but let's remember that Belichick had a 36-44 record in Cleveland with one winning season out of 5 (credit to him, a playoff berth), and Belichick before Brady in NE was 5-11; this was the ONLY losing season NE has had under Belichick.

    No.. I think once Brady retires, you'll see it was mostly Brady not Belichick. Belichick is certainly a fantastic X's and O's coach, so NE will still be a decent team, but without Brady I bet they don't sniff the SB for another 10 years.

    naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw its a legacy thing. He cant just take the suspension everyone will say he did cover up by destroying the cell phone. I think at this point it is political in so far as him trying to keep his image intact.
