I would assume that Rosenhouse brought up Mathis and that Tannenbaum said something along the lines of liking what we have at G and looking forward to seeing them in pads. While I guess these are Mathis talks in the loosest sense it's nothing new or nothing more than the same conversation that's probably been repeated 3 or 4 times earlier.

Have to remember, Omar said there was "no chance" Miami landed Ndamukong Suh.

How many Dolphins are represented by Rosenhaus? Lamar Miller is one.

He's so often wrong that it makes me doubt that we'll ever sign Mathis. Omar seems to have the worst eye for talent or instincts of any reporter covering our team. It's gotten to the point that if he says somebody looks good, I start to assume the guy won't make the team.

He has a few. Jason Fox and Luis Delmas are his I know. A fraternity brother of mine is cousins with Rosenhaus and works for him.

Calm down don't get all excited. Rosenhaus was on with Joe this morning and said he was stopping by camp today and would probably run into Mr T and Hickey at some point.

Because it wasn't necessary. Your absolutley right, we all know Omar needs to calm down and not get excited over nothing again. That's pretty much his M.O. I don't see how the guards won't struggle vs the best d-line in the league... More speculation to come.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that your post actually made sense. Nobody in this thread was getting excited other than Omar so you saying calm down to anybody else would have been really pointless.

Really? Because everyone around here is Omar is this, Omar is that, Omar is a slug, a hack, ha sucks. And then time and time again people keep posting his drivel tweets or whatever as if he's credible. So for someone to post his crap on this subject I have to assume people are going to be jacked up over it

Omar is probably right about them talking Mathis, but that's going to happen no matter what because that's Drew's job. It's still a money issue and I'd imagine there's an ocean between the two parties.

Despite this being a season of hope and promise, the Dolphins appear ready to stay within their budgetary allocation regardless of the consequences. The only time they've gotten serious about upgrading the position is when La'el Collins became available (UDFA money).

Every single post in the thread (other than a couple on Rosenhouse) before yours basically was some version of "Omar's always wrong", "Nevermind it's Omar" or examples of past instances where Omar was wrong. There was literally no excitement at all.

Thinking about that Tweet on Mathis being a left-guard only (and Douglas has been doing well), should we be hoping for some Hickey/Tannenbaum magic at the RG spot? Find some talent there, if only briefly, until we can build it properly? It's not just the starters that are troubling, can you imagine if we get an injury on the OL?

Who are the teams deepest at OL/Guard? Cowboys, Ravens, Bengals? There has to be some sort of talent that'll drop during camps. A bit of that GM magic in spotting a talent might go a long way right now.

I've been a big proponent of bringing in Mathis since at least last season, but my conviction has lessened of late. Part of it is that Douglas has been playing well rather than Turner. I went in banking on Turner being fine and Douglas and Thomas as the big question marks. I was (and am) a big believer in Douglas, but I saw no harm in giving him time to acclimate. But things seem to be playing out differently (big caveat is that I'm going off of reports rather than my own eyes). If Douglas is fine then the upgrade at LG is lessened and RG continues to be the same problem. Also I didn't want to shuffle these guys all over the line as I thought it would hurt their development. I think that could create the same fiasco we had last year moving Thomas to T and James to LT. IMO those horrible decisions last year hurt both the players and our team. It might just be smarter to have another vet play RG (McClendon or camp cut) then tho spend big money to fix a LG position that might no longer need fixing.

Additionally, Omar seems to think it will and should happen. It always makes me re-think things when he starts to agree with me. Obviously his record on what will happen is poor (Suh will never sign here?), but so are his instincts on who is and isn't playing well. That makes me question whether it makes sense at all to bring in Mathis.

Would Mathis already be a Phin if we hadn't signed Jennings? Would you sacrifice Jennings for Mathis? I would in a heartbeat.

I'm not sure one has to do with the other because it seems the issue with Evan Mathis involves staying true to their position budgets.

Mathis has also played RG in the NFL. He's just been much more effective as a LG. He was also more experienced and in a ZBS when he made his name while playing LG. His time at RG came when he was less experienced and in a man blocking scheme.

Agreed. I see no reason to move him to RG as he's tried-and-true at LG. But I'd have no problem moving Douglas to RG as he has said he's comfortable there, has played there and has worked there in camp. With Mathis at LG, if one fo Douglas/Turner/Thomas can be just average, or not-too-far-below-average, at RG, we could have the best OL in the NFL if healthy and if they can develop a solid level of chemistry/cohesion.

I still don't understand why we don't just sign him to a one year deal. I guess Mathis probably wants more years, but we certainly have the cap room to sign this dude for a year or two. Gives us stability while the inexperienced guys get more time to learn without being thrown in the fire.

I think a lot of teams including the Fins are waiting to see how their guys play their first preseason games and if there are any unexpected injuries in the process. If our Gs suck and get embarrased then I think we have as good a chance if not better as any to get Mathis.

A lot of coaches jobs depend on it .I think its US....homer talking

Yea well your budget line can change when you have a little more cash to spend and a month from now you're facing the real prospect of fielding arguably the worst set of starting guards this league has to offer.
