theres really not much noise in the upper bowl being made...their too far away and to many sitting on their *** because of that distance, but the roof will make it more amplified...it won't be enough to make a difference...only intimacy engages the fan not roofs.

your right I will have to accept it..im grateful for the changes like I've said a hundred times, but i just cant believe they did all this for the cause of creating a home field advantage and they took that phrase literally.

not in the heart of the lower bowl fineas, they could of done things differently..They could of remade the club level.

sure but if you haven't noticed, its all player driven..the dolphins have had no home field advantage for thirty years...and no heat is not what I consider home field advantage.

The upper bowl is much more active than the lower bowl. Not sure what you are talking about here. Also not sure how you could know the roof won't amplify the sound enough to make a difference without being privy to the sound/noise studies. I haven't seen those either, but I'd be willing to bet quite a lot that it adds more sound/noise than the 72 Club loses.

There's not much noise being made up there?!?!? Where do you sit in all the games you go to???

The best and rowdiest fans are up there. Has nothing to do with how close you are to the field in that scenario... it has to do with what type of fan you are (rowdy, quiet, etc). You're so far off base with that comment. The only thing that takes it out of the fans up top is the sun by the mid-3rd quarter. The roof is not only going to help keep those fans charged... but will also push their sound down to the field.

Those fans up there don't need to be "engaged". They are engaged starting at 10am at the tailgate. It's the lower bowl fans that need to be "engaged" and get off their *** and cheer... not the upper bowl.

    We know different people then.
I ended up with very similar seats but I wasn't in one of those sections.

It has been widely reported in the local media as well that there were a significant number of disgruntled fans in those sections.
I love the overall look of the new stadium, but that section is a joke.

Yes, there were 1200-1500 fans in those sections that might have experienced what they consider to be a downgrade in their seats. And that was by their own choice, as they had first dibs on seats anywhere in the stadium, including the 72 Club. They chose not to get those, presumably because of the price, but there is no guarantee that prices will remain the same forever, nor should one expect it. And even if they elected not to buy those seats, they had options on the other side of the field and/or at the 30 yard line on that side. I personally am not shedding a lot of tears over the fact that they moved from the 40 yd line to the 30 yard line.

Why would you cry about them?
    I'm not crying about them.

The point remains that this change angered some of the most loyal, long time fans.

my point has nothing to do with the fan in a literal sense..yes great the upper level fan are more rowdy than the lower deck?, cool..

why is it that my theories on this subject keep being proved right yet your still trying to find holes any chance you get?..theres no holes, i know what I'm talking about, check it out, our home field will be better because they actually changed the structure a bit..Thats a big deal, you don't see any other stadiums moving the concrete inside the stadium, they did it because of the exact reasons I've been talking on forum boards for a decade, they actually did it Nasty, what I'm doing is picking apart what folks are saying..Its going to be lot better though only thing I'm pissed off at is the two sections of BS.

All I did was disagree with your statement that there isn't much noise being made in the upper deck b/c the fans are too far away and therefore not engaged.

That is a statement I strongly disagree with. There is plenty of noise being made in the upper deck... probably more than in the lower deck. Fans are much more engaged up there than the rich snobs in the lower deck...

I've only sat in the lower deck once... and was told by the people behind me to sit down while I was standing and screaming.

Every change upsets some people. No way around that. Can't make everyone happy all the time. This upset a very small group of people who had first choice of where they wanted to sit. If they were really "angered," as opposed to disappointed or a little upset, then they have some issues.

And while I like the idea of bringing the fans closer to the action, it does kinda disprove the notion that being closer to the action necessarily makes the fans more engaged. The upper deck fans are generally much more engaged than the lower deck fans who are much closer to the action. That's true of Sun Life and of most stadiums/arenas that I've been to. It's certainly true of the AAA. The people who are literally on the floor and can touch the players at times are typically less engaged than the rowdies in the upper deck. It's mostly economic -- the people who can afford the elite seats simply tend to be less engaged and less rowdy fans. The 72 Club and living room suites are akin to the floor seats at Heat games (or other NBA areas). They are the closest to the action, a little more cushioned and by far the most expensive seats. I've never heard anyone complain that the best and closest seats in NBA arenas are also the most expensive ones. Sure, it would be cool to see a team reserve the very best and closest seats for the rowdies who make $20-30k per year, but it ain't happening. Seems silly to worry or complain about it.

I have sat in the lower bowl plenty of times, basically 45 yard line,26 rows up, behind the Dolphins bench....when I have been fortunate enough to sit there I get the fans going as much as possible while still being respectful of them. I have had the fortune of talking to season ticket holders since the very first year, in the Orange Bowl in that section and still holding them, up through last year anyways, and I absolutely love to hear and see their passion for our team from those early years when many of them were teenagers and young adults to now...almost 50 years later. So yes, it troubles me that many of these fans have to find new seats or simply many will quit coming. Some say that all they have to do is move from the 45 to the 35....No big deal, right? Well, it would be if you were the one being displaced. Also, how is it going to be so easy to purchase at the 35? Where does one think the longtime season ticket holders at the 35 are going to go? The 25? Makes no since.....there are also many displaced fans that were ticket holders in the upper bowl in all four corner sections that are now gone...it is a tough situation for sure, but our stadium needed modern upgrades in the worst way....The stadium received a much needed cleaning from the Top to the Bottom and that it got...I just hate to see longtime season ticket holders displaced, but I am happy to see most of the improvements.

This post is so pointless its just not funny . . jmo. Not sure why you would bother responding to literally say nothing.

If upper deck fans are louder and more engaged (which they are) despite being further from the field or court, doesn't that at least tell you that being closer to the field may not be the key ingredient in fan engagement?

Do you dispute that socio-economic factors play a major role in the level of fan engagement and noise level?

Do you (or have you ever heard anyone else) criticize NBA teams for selling the floor seats for such crazy prices in light of the fact that people are apparently willing to pay those prices?

Are you aware of any NBA team that doesn't sell their floor seats to large corporations or the uber rich for insane prices? Are you aware of any NFL team that doesn't sell their 40-50 yd line lowers for $100+ per game per seat (and in many cases much more than that)?

To be "mildly" scientific about it, even with conservative assumptions the 72 Club and living room suites will have a negligible impact on sound/noise in the stadium. Approximately 2000 fans used to sit in that area and are now being replaced by 726 in the 72 Club area. Let's make the following very conservative assumptions: (1) the original 2000 fans there made as much noise as the average fan in the stadium (doubtful for the reasons mentioned before); (2) the 726 new fans are half as loud on a per person basis as the 726 they are replacing (doubtful since the original 2000 were not especially loud or rowdy); (3) the average home game gets 65,000 fans. So previously, the 2000 fans in that area contributed 3% of the noise in the stadium. The 726 new ones will "earn" back 0.5% of that, for a net loss of 2.5%, not including what the new roof adds, which I think will be much, much more than that. A typical NFL stadium will have atypical decibel level of 100 or so, with the peak noise levels in the loudest being in the 135-140 range. Decibels (there are different "types" but I'm referring to dBA) are logarithmic, so technically a 3 decibel increase is a doubling in sound, but the human ear doesn't perceive it as such. A dBA change of 2.5 is actually imperceptible to the average human ear (some very sensitive people may be able to pick it up, but . . .). A 5 dBA change is where most people "sense" a change in loudness and a 10 dBA change is what is perceived as a doubling of sound/noise. In short, a 2.5% change in sound level (which I think is very, very conservative) is not even perceptible to the human ear. So the 72 Club will have a negligible, and maybe even non-existent, impact on stadium sound or noise.

Apart from noise, I don't think that area will impact atmosphere much at all. Few, if any, fans outside that area will even bother to look at it. Most fans on that side of the field can't even see it. Of those on the other side of the stadium that can, most will be watching the game on the field or the big screens up top, not the rich people in those sections.

The whole stadium has been reconfigured, making more good seats and fewer bad ones. That was a big part of the whole project. I'm one of those theoretically displaced people from the corners, but I was able to upgrade dramatically -- to right around the 40 yard line. Other people I know with similar seats were able to upgrade significantly too.

While I think that everyone in the discussion obviously has their points, I think that its also important to remember that not everyone who's at the game and closely paying attention is going to want to scream their lungs out. When I go to a game, I get zoned in, and follow the action every second. And I'll clap and cheer when good things happen, and hang my head when bad things happen, but I generally stay in my seat, and don't get all that loud. It doesn't mean that I care any less than those who act differently. I'm sure that there are plenty of other people like me out there as well.

Understood. And I'm the same way for much of the game, although I have my moments. While there's nothing wrong with that, the truth is that people like us don't add all that much to the stadium noise and/or atmosphere.

Usually I will check and see who is sitting behind me before I stand...if they are shorter than me(which is doubtful lol) or if there is a child behind me, I will not stand, so I can give them a chance to see...I understand the feeling of not being able to see the action so I am always considerate of others first and foremost.

It sure is pretty, will be a really nice place to watch a game next year, I'm thinking any dynamic change will benefit the players that have been on our team, and the relocation of those two side sections should do that

I think when we are finished with the "New" stadium in 2016, we will have the best stadium in Football...with the team on a big upswing, we will also see a packed stadium of great Dolfans and we will then see what decibel levels we can reach.

As amazing as the canopy and 4 new screens are going to be next year, it looks pretty damn sharp now as it is. The only remaining JRS remnants (inside) recognizable now are those awful light supports and the old decrepit looking jumbotron.
