There is still time to fix that G situation if the current prospects dont impress. As some of the OL pundits have said it takes a few exhibition games played before making those decisions.

Evan Mathis is THEE single best zone blocking LG in the NFL. His grades the last few years have been ridiculous. A wisely run NFL team wouldn't even have to be desperate to give him 5.5 mil to join their squad.

What happens at right guard though? Can Douglas play right guard?

So the fact that the Eagles cut him in June and no team has signed him means that there aren't any wisely run NFL teams right? Mathis was scheduled to make $5.5 million this year in Philly but wanted a pay raise. He is rumored to want $7.0 million plus.

It seemed that a lot of people on here just assumed Turner would be the answer at one of the guard positions. Obviously he has the size, but his small school background is now showing up because it appears he is not close to being ready to be a starter at the NFL level.
The fact McClendon, a player who has played on a number of teams since entering the league is now taking first team snaps has to be a major concern for this OL and the coaching staff. He was signed as a possible backup and appeared to be a fringe player playing for a roster spot and now he appears to be in play for a starting position.

It would be great if he earned this possible starting spot because of his outstanding training camp. Unfortunately it appears he is being given this opportunity because the players in front of him on the roster just a week ago just aren't getting the job done.

At this time only Pouncey and James seem to be secure in their starting positions on the OL. Hopefully Albert will be able to be available early in the regular season and he will play close to the level he did prior to being seriously injured last year.
We should learn more about the two guard positions after the game Thursday night, but right now Mathis looks like the best option for this coming season. Hopefully the Dolphins and Mathis can come to a contract agreement before another team scoops in and signs Mathis. If this happens, the Dolphins appear to be headed for another season with Tannehill once again feeling the pressure nearly every time he drops back to pass.

How can anyone be dissatisfied with 5.5 million? How Stupid can one get? Especially at his age. I know he is a perfect fit at LG in our ZBS. Although we need him, I almost hope the dude misses the whole year because of his demands. I would be soooo happy to get that money. Live wisely with 5.5 million and it would last the rest of my life and we would be able to travel anywhere that we wanted, as we invest some and save the rest..No investments except solid ones. Oh well, I know he wants 7 mil but I think he will be very lucky just to get 5 mil. See how it plays out.

There is some good stuff on his thinking in this article. But I agree with you that he will be lucky to make the $13.5M over the next 2 years that he was due under his old contract.

its no concern at all, as always its just your way of taking the glass half empty approach, we are 1 1/2 weeks into camp havenĀ“t even played a game yet, we are used to this kind of shifting around, we will see what happens when the preseason games start

If you want to see it as me looking at the OL situation as the glass being half empty, so be it. It appears that many other people also see the OL as a problem at this time.

The Dolphins have had an issue with the OL for several years now. All they did to resolve this issue was to draft an offensive lineman in the middle rounds of the draft and hope that the young players they drafted in the last few years could step up. So far they seem to be having the same problems on the offensive line they have had in recent years. Along with the suspect guard play so far, they still have no way of knowing how effective Albert will be once he does return to the lineup.

I have already stated several times that I thought the overall talent on the roster is the best this organization has had in over a decade. So I see a lot to be enthused about in regards to the overall roster. I just don't think the OL is going to be part of that overall talent base and they could end up being the reason the Dolphins don't make the playoffs this year.

It's rather hilarious that you see me as the one person who sees the OL as an issue, but the problems on the OL seems to be what concerns most of the people on this forum and also the media and coaches who watch practice everyday.

My only take away from all the chatter about the OL is that McClendon and Douglass are making the most out of their opportunities. During this week, I will pay special attention to information about each of theses players.

That's all to be considered yes...but I stand by my statement a few months ago. If we can get the same play from this team that we got last year, with the exception of the WRs, we're in the playoffs. Wallace and BH hurt us QUITE a bit last year, as long as the current stable improves over what we got last year, we're in business.

Yes I'm worried a bit about the OL, since I don't want to see Tannehill injured...yes I'm worried a bit on how the LBs (and to a lesser extent the DBs) will respond with all the action that will be forced their way by the DL playing lights-out...but I seriously doubt they'll have a drop off, overall, from last year's performance. They were a top 5 defense before a few key injuries, mainly my dude Delmas.

If those receivers can continue to gel, work with RT, and run great routes (like they have been all camp), RT's numbers will explode. Hell, had they caught all the great passes he threw them last year that put them in the RZ or close to it, his numbers would have been massive...and THAT was with the horrible OL play we had last year!

I agree if this team is serious about winning the division. YOU SIGN HIM NOW! If you just giving the fans lip service about wanting to be better than you keep the suspect offensive line in tact and pretend it's not going to cost you a few wins..
