So now he's being held back because he's not on the 40 man roster? The White Sox are playing black holes at 2B, 3B, RF and DH. You don't think if they thought Tuis would help they would have called him up? It is more likely that he's just a 4A player instead of a useful MLB player. You keep pointing to that 2013 season which looks more like a career year than a break out considering no team has given him a chance at the MLB level since.

You think the White Sox know what they are doing? They have giant whole at 2B too, and sent down their(at the time) 2nd leading hitter, Micah Johnson. Carlos Sanchez has a 260 OBP while the 24 year old MJ is sitting in AAA with 870 OPS. Guess he sucks too and couldn't help them either eh?

Sorry but I'm not the one hanging my hat on a 29 year old Tuiasosopo. I simply don't think he's ever going to be anything more than a 4A player. Having one decent season 2 years ago isn't going to change my mind.

Down years for players 30+ often are not singular. We will see I guess.

On a different note, Yanks have to be concerned.

I was really, really down in the dumps after my Cubbies got swept by the horrible Phillies (including getting no hit for the first time in 50 years). They had a great chance to come out of the break hot, and they choked.

However, they've won 10/12 since then, including 3 in a row against the Giants, and have opened a 2.5 game lead over SF in the WC standings. I figured that the second WC would quickly become a 3 team race, and it has with eight of the clubs in the NL now completely out of it. However, I figured it would be the Mets fighting with the Cubs and Giants for that spot, and now its the Nationals!

By the end of today, the Cubs could have the 3rd best record in the entire NL.....but also still just the 3rd best in the Central. Just one of those years. 5th best record in baseball right now, and 9.5 back in their division. Without that second WC, this could have ended up being an all time heart breaker of a season.

Giants pitching staff is looking very weak... I don't think they make the postseason... Even Bumgarner hasn't looked all that good this year. Not sure how long Panik is out, but powering their way to the postseason isn't going to cut it either.

I think they will win the series against the Indians coming up to hold their lead but then it's Blue Jays again right after in Toronto... The Yankees have to go up there and try to return the favor.. not sure what piece they will get in time for Fridays game that will help them.

And the Indians have been playing well lately so they cant overlook them by thinking ahead of the Toronto series already...

Need a bat - just bring up refs and DFA Drew. Maybe old man Utley can have better AB's than him.... Pitching did their job this weekend. Joe Girardi left Nova in for one batter too many, once again. I dont think this team is cooked, but a slump right now is no bueno. Wondering if seeing 3 knuckleballers in 5 games last week, screwed them up. Who knows, but they better shake that **** off and get back to work.

Yeah, with the amount of innings he threw extra in the postseason, he was due for a regressive year like this. Like when a RB carries 300+ times in a season. The workload just gets too much, not that they would ever trade it.

Severino not doing well early against the Indians. The guy has talent but i think its a little early to say if hes a starting pitcher or if hes a closer. He definitely has closer stuff. Rivera started a few games before he was switched permanently to the 9th inning.

There is something to sometimes letting closers/relievers do their thing and not forcing them into starting roles. I think the Red's are doing right by Chapman in that regard.

3 years ago the Rangers had a lights out relief staff with some dominating prospects. They tried converting them to starters and one by one they got injured, lost effectiveness and are now either gone or a shell of themselves. One of the great mistakes they made trying desperately to find starters.

My old man's favorite saying in baseball is "the sun doesn't shine on a baseball season until Mid/Late-August"

I am thinking the Yanks are falling into the category, Twins are already there hahahahahah

Well one thing to watch with them is they are an older baseball team with a lot of guys playing much better than expected so this is usually the point where the "dog days of August" start to catch up to you. They still are 5 up in the loss column for the 2nd WC spot in front of Baltimore so it would still take a pretty big collapse for them not to make the playoffs. With that being said I still think they need to and will make a few moves before the end of the month. I'm still shocked they did nothing at the deadline outside of Ackley.

He's had 435 plate appearances at Double & Triple A, might be rushing him a bit, especially since he's not exactly lighting up Triple A pitching with a slash line of .231/.316/.396/.712. Plus like you said there's no where he'd play right now. It would be a waste of development time and a roster spot.

Red Sox hired former Angels GM Jerry Dipoto on an interm basis to help with offseason moves. Besides the free agent signings (Pujols, Hamilton and Wilson) that were pushed by ownership Dipoto did a pretty good job with trades and restocking the farm system, this hiring can't hurt.

Oh I agree about him not lighting up Triple A pitching, I said the same thing a couple weeks ago. The guy looks like Reynolds over there.

I just dont see any solution at this point... the Yankees arent doing much and are about to get swept by the Indians right now while having to go play a series against the Blue Jays next, again...

Ben was the one that hired him. Right now he's just an outside consultant giving the team his opinions on players in the organization and outside of it, he has no power. He used to be a scout with the Red Sox before he left in 2005 so that's how Cherington knows him. Peter Gammons is also reporting that the Sox are possibly going to reach out to Pat Gilleck to perhaps fill the CEO role.

Jose Reyes has cleared waivers, can be traded to any team. Yankees, Mets? Just note that this guy is probably not a shortstop. He is pretty bad at SS, so whoever takes him has to have some position outfield or third base for him..

With the Pirates playing the Mets, and the Nationals playing the Giants, we could see a lot clear up (or not) in the NL races over the next few days. As a Cubs fan, I've really gotten into scoreboard watching lately.

He looks like he doesnt want to be there. He should just say so. I honestly have no idea why he bothered to show up with the way he pitched today, lobbing balls over the plate with no real stuff or movement, begging for it to get blasted.

Well, I guess you can't win every time out. No shame in getting shut down by Chris Sale for the Cubs today. Only their second loss since July 29th. Regroup with the day off tomorrow. At least the Cards lost today as well.

As a Cubs fan, I don't want him. I don't trust him to perform well, we have other options on the MLB club, and prospect Javy Baez will likely be up in a few weeks when the rosters expand, and I'd like to see him get a chance at the job full time.
