Preseason Week 2 - @ Carolina Panthers Game Thread

If Jason Fox has a concussion they should sign Mathis, move Billy Turner to LT and have it done with. I wonder if Jamil Douglas will get some practice reps at LT.

This Christian Jones cat has shown some good things as returner. He's shifty and has a knack for picking good lanes.

A lot of those guys on the field in the second half will not be on the roster. I see some claiming waivers this year, especially on offensive line.

 

Of course they will give a career GUARD shots at LT before they would give a career LT a shot..that's the way this regime rolls.

 

You might want to be sitting down for this one, but Jamal Taylor hurt his quad. I know, we are in total shock too.

 

Billy Turner was a LT for the most part in college, converted to Guard by us, his athleticism and feet cry out LT imo, miscast as OG. Jamil Douglas played LT his Senior year at Arizona St.

 

So let's talk about Coyle...
What a DC is supposed to do (instead of being vanilla) is put your players in position to win battles and evaluate them in preseason games.
Whether they are 3rd or 4th stringers, BS zone play calling will make most QB's look good if you keep doing the same thing over and over again.
For real, we had this hack of a QB just chew us up and Jimmy Clausen last week?
Is depth a problem or is the moronic play calling the problem?

 

Pretty much all you see in preseason is vanilla defense. You may be evaluating, but you aren't throwing anything extra at the opponent.

 

I'm thinking they were evaluating the secondary because it was constant blitzes in the 4th. I guess they wanted to see those guys on an island.

 

POTG Reshad Jones. He was lighting fools up.

And yeah our "bad" players are REALLY bad. Especially in the secondary sheesh.

At least it will make cuts. easier.

B+ first team offense.
A first team defense.

 

Off the top of my head we, basically just ran a ****load of quick slants, i'm usually not a big fan of that type of foodball but we were slicing em up.

Tannehill had a perfect deepball pass to Cameron but the DB was stride for stride and broke up the otherwise perfect pass.

Lamichael James also had a nice night at RB, he may be our 3rd RB.

Tannehill also had one brain fart and threw into double coverage, fortunately dropped by the D.

Tannehill checked down to Lamar Miller for a huge gain.

Lamichael James had a really nice Punt Return.

Reshad Jones was coming up and cracking everybody. He looks really improved. Could be seeing Reshad Jones 2.0.

We stopped them 4 tries inside the 5 I believe.. they got it down to the 1 yard line, huge props to the Defense to hold them there.

That's all I got off the top of my head.

 

That was an LB, their first round pick Shaq Thompson. He looked pretty good.

 

Really my mistake. Even more impressive then.. I wish we had LBers that could cover TE's like that.

I predict the narrative monster will turn Philbin into a horrible "play challenger" in the next few days, even though his record on those has been stellar and its not actually his record really.

 

Good:
- Tannehill
- Williams at RB had 2 TDs, should have had 3.
- LaMichael James
- Miller, Landry, Hazel, Matthews in pass game.
- 1st team D; especially Jones.
- Thomas and Shelby with nice plays on goal line stand. Walt Aikens as well.

Bad:
- Talyor hurt quad.
- Bobby McCain hurt ankle.
- Chris McCain very average.
- Jason Fox pass pro; Turner run blocking
- Vigil and Luc false keyed a lot.

Awful:
- Will Davis
- QB play as a whole after Tannehill

 

I agree...Billy Should be backing up at LT..leave Jamil at guard..that is what I was saying.
