I inherited a team in a returning keeper league. Get to keep two players. One has to be a rookie from last year (i.e., a second year player). My best options are Brandin Cooks, Devante Adams and Tre Mason.

My other keeper is A.J. Green, and I have the 4th overall pick. There should be several high end WR's available, to include D. Thomas, Dez & A. Brown. The best of the RB's that are in the draft pool are Beast Mode, Forte and C.J. Anderson. Then it starts to thin out. Best of the next bunch are guys like Forsett, Miller and L. Murray.

I think I should keep Mason as he'd be solid RB #2, with RB #1 upside early in the season. But, if Gurley's recovery is ahead of schedule, he will start to lose touches by mid to late September. And, could be fantasy irrelevant (except as a handcuff to Gurley) by mid October.

Adams and Cooks both have breakout potential, and I think have more value (to their position) than Mason. But, I think there will be plentiful wideouts beyond the first couple of rounds that I could rely on. And, both Adams and Cooks should be available to redraft in the 2nd and maybe even 3rd round.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    G

How many wr does your league start. If it's 3 cooks green dez is the way to go. Actually that's the way to go regardless because as much as I like mason, gurleys presence is at the very least a hindrance to masons value. Cooks green and dez is the answer

    Thanks Boik.

To answer your question, we start 2 WR's, 2 RB's and one "Flex" (WR/RB or TE).

Anyone else wanna give me their $.02?

Im liking Adams alot in that high octane passing offense and obviously now that Jordy is hurt, his value skyrockets.

On the other hand, Cooks will be Brees number one target and has been performing his *** off in preseason.

I gotta say Adams merely edging out Cooks by a small margin, I think Adams has top 10 FF WR potential and I can see Brandin Cooks somewhere in that 12-15 range.

I like Adams for this year but long term Cooks is the safer play. Plus GB is still looking at trading for a wr...James Jones comes to mind.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I think Adams could have a monster year. Cooks too for that matter. It's just that if I don't keep a RB, or get a RB with the 4th pick (really hoping CJ is still there), then it will be very slim pickings when it comes back to me.

Green and dez at wr and cooks at flex is going to offer more possible points. Plus I think Anderson could end up in a time share with ronnie hillman who is having a strong camp. Those three offer the least risk and the safest possible upside.

Personally I would keep Cooks and target a RB with pick #4. It's unlikely that Lynch, Forte, and Anderson will be the first 3 picks. The Depth at WR is huge you can easily fill the flex later on. I wouldn't keep Mason simply because Gurley will come in there and be the number 1 back once they decide he is healthy. You don't have that situation with the other 2 options.

Thanks to all for the input. Very helpful, and very much appreciated.

I've decided to go with Cooks as my returning rookie keeper. I even toyed with the idea of selecting Isaiah Crowell when I realized he was an undrafted FA last year. But, he hasn't done much to separate himself from West and Johnson, and I think I can get him later in the draft if he's still hanging 'round in the mid rounds.

I also toyed with picking Jarvis Landry. But, after taking my homer glasses off I realized Cooks is the more dynamic receiver, and has a perennial pro bowl QB throwing to him. Still love me some Tannehill, and targeting him as my QB1 .

OK, so as it turns out the league I joined wouldn't let me keep a rookie. They said I would have to make an extra selection at the end of the draft to compensate for only having one keeper. It's my work league, and I'm new to the company so I didn't argue even though I thought it was complete BS. Basically they didn't like the fact that I was going to pick a top 20 player (Brandin Cooks) outside of the keepers, as my keeper.

Anyhow, I ended up drafting CJA at #4. Lynch was still OTB, but I just fear the end could be near for him. I could be way off base on that, but we'll see. Here's the team I ended up with:

    1. (4) A.J. Green (Cin - WR)
    2. (21) C.J. Anderson (Den - RB)
    3. (28) Latavius Murray (Oak - RB)
    4. (45) Jonathan Stewart (Car - RB)
    5. (52) Ryan Tannehill (Mia - QB)
    6. (69) Charles Johnson (Min - WR)
    7. (76) Rashad Jennings (NYG - RB)
    8. (93) Vincent Jackson (TB - WR)
    9. (100) DeVante Parker (Mia - WR)
    10. (117) Delanie Walker (Ten - TE)
    11. (124) Ronnie Hillman (Den - RB)
    12. (141) Joe Flacco (Bal - QB)
    13. (148) Miami (Mia - DEF)
    14. (165) Percy Harvin (Buf - WR)
    15. (172) Julius Thomas (Jax - TE)
    16. (189) Cameron Artis-Payne (Car - RB)
    17. (196) Derek Carr (Oak - QB)
    18. (213) Brandon McManus (Den - K)

I was graded out by Yahoo at a C, which I think is fair. I see it as an average team. But this league is a 12-teamer, and has savvy owners, so the distribution of talent was pretty even. I may not win the league, but I think I'll be competitive and should hopefully end up with a winning record. I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks again to those that gave me their advice, even though in the end it didn't seem to matter...ugh. Man, I would've loved to have had B. Cooks as my #2 WR/Flex.
