Why the hell would you release one of the best punters in the league? The guy is a master at pinning teams inside the 10? I do not agree with this move at all!
something hasnt been right for two years, not sure how it works for punters but it seems as though its a mental, weird though that a punter could have bad years, you would think they wouldn't get inside their head but maybe they do..idk, he was great, he's still young, ifk have no real opinion except that is saves us some cash..dont even know about the other guy.
I'd rather drop a really good punter for an average punter if it means we have more money for say, Lamar Miller next year. Punter, like guard, is a position where the difference between great and average won't cost you games.
Aww man. Even though he's a punter, he was a damn good one for years here. Seemed to be a pretty awesome guy too. I'm gonna miss him.
He was definitely over paid based on last years performance alone. Hopefully he doesn't become the next Carpentar, we could really use that guy right now. I hope we have a good contingency plan, our kicking game could absolutely suck this year. They better use all this saved $$ from this and passing on Mathis on Lamar, Mathews, OV, Shelby etc. next year.
I get that it's a cost saving move, so that's a good thing. What I don't like is, ok, the guy wasn't himself last year, but he's looked a bit more like normal this preseason hasn't he? I don't really pay attention to the punter, but his ability to pin teams inside the 20 was pretty damn good. If Darr can nail the coffin corner kicks like that, then I don't really care, but field position is important, punters play a pretty big role in that. Sturgis is probably next up to be replaced by Franks too.
He was hurt last year. That's why his numbers suffered. I understand this is a numbers thing for the cap and yes I agree there are more important positions on a team than Punter as far as game impact goes, but his ability to pin teams next to their own endzone could pay huge dividends this year with our defensive line.
Not even gonna lie, I had a dream last night that we cut Brandon Fields. Weird af. Now, if he lands in Tennessee, that's going to make things even weirder. Then again, Shane Lechler was on the Titans in my dream too.
It actually saves 1.7 mil this year, should've made this move last week to free up more money for Mathis.
Not so, when Fields was right he was a ST weapon who effected games. I personally felt like he was injured last season
Not at all, a punter who can flip the field is a weapon who can massively help teams win ballgames. 2 minutes left, pinning the opponent inside their 10 yd line matters
because he's not one of the best punters in the league? Last year Fields was 25th in net punting [62% of his punts were returned, by far the worst in the NFL] and ranked 26th in punts inside the 20. Not sure why you think that level of performance is worth tying up $7 million on over the next 2 years.
Yes a punter can do that. An AVERAGE punter can do that. You don't need a great a punter. That is a simple fact.
It's all about placement, that's why the most important stat of a punter is inside the 20, which pins teams back, elite punters have that ability, avg punters do not.
Lol, I guess you have never paid attention to punters, maybe you should go ahead and back that simple fact up with stats.
