I'm really not comfortable only looking at the QB Dolphins will be facing and assuming victories simply because they're not very good. Dolphins will be facing entire teams, not just QBs. Last 2 years Dolphins have gotten beat by Thad Lewis and Geno Smith lead teams, because you face TEAMS, not just QBs.
All good points. But IMO Suh changes that dynamic bc teams with bad QBs won't be able to lean on the run game as they did the past couple years. They'll have to throw in order to move the ball and that will be their downfall.
100% get what you're saying, and I agree. However, lets not get too carried away about that being a big advantage. Delmas is already out for the year, and aside from Grimes, and Jones, our LB's and secondary are pretty suspect at this point. I get what you're saying though, I think we just need to include this asterisk with it.
This is valid, but there are still half a dozen matchups to be exploited that will have bearing on the outcome of games. Dolphins secondary vs their receivers; Dolphins linebackers vs the quick slants and screen game; Dolphins linebackers vs TEs; Dolphins O-line vs stout rush; Special teams; etc etc. So many matchups aside from QB that can, and have influenced outcome of games in the past.
Agreed. There some weaknesses on the back end that will be exploited but I worry about that more vs the better QBs. If they can prevent the deep throws and tackle well vs the short stuff I think their deficiencies will be more of a nuisance than a problem. What I'm most excited to see with Suh is that now the pressure to get sacks is somewhat off of him. He never had a dominant edge rusher beside him in Detroit so he had to go get the QB. With Wake and Vernon on the outside he can just push the pocket and the QBs will come to him. There's also more depth on this line, Suh won't have to play as many snaps.
against tenn is the only freebie i see on the list. Washington coaches and players actually like cousins so they will play up for him to prove he was the right choice over rg3 and has a healthy garcon and jackson. Blake bortles is much improved and has good young WRs tyrod taylor beat out QBs that have beaten the dolphins. Fitz has beaten the dolphins with worse bills teams, that didn't have decker and bmarsh. tenn is awful should be a win. And miami has never beaten houston. but that is from a realistic view. let me grab my aqua coloured glasses and say free 6-0 boys.
not sure any of us can quantify how impactful Suh wake combo will be for our defense..maybe we'll just suffucate everyone, best 1/2 punch in the game.
I'd put it this way. How many times have we seen Wake beat his man off the edge and narrowly miss a sack as the QB steps up into the pocket?
yeah, its just that a qb who presents the skillset to escape at an elite level seems like the only type that might be able to compete, I see no hope for pocket qbs..but who knows at this point, they had the number 1 defense on detroit and we have more talent.
