Hey it looks like Will Davis could be traded before the 53 man cut deadline. What could we get from him? http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...-dolphins-shopping-cornerback-will-davis.html
Pretty much. Then again, If Jeff Ireland is associated with any team we could try them. Might a 1st and 2 2nds.
Shocked if anyone bites the bait... But in his defense, it's not as if Coyle has actually ever developed any secondary player ever.
Well didn't someone say Publix was creating a new Dolphins Sub? I think we could get at least 2 6 inche meals in the deal.
I take it you dispute that it's FACT ? Unless you think a premium draft pick turning into a decent player is developing.... *J.Joseph, Leon Hall
Coyle is a terrific DB coach and has been known to get the most out of his players. He did it constantly in Cincinnati. Reshad Jones turned into a Pro Bowl type safety when Coyle got here. Brent Grimes has had his best years ever under Coyle.
He turned Artrell Hawkins into a solid pro cornerback and followed that up by turning free agent cornerbacks Tory James and Deltha O'Neal into Pro Bowlers in the mid-2000s. After their respective departures, Coyle had two great corners to work with in Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph. At the safety position, Coyle managed to make Kevin Kaesviharn a productive player and revived Chris Crocker's career. (Snippet from a old article)
The only way we get anything for Will Davis is if he is packaged with another player. Rishard Matthews and Will Davis may actually bring some value and allow us to hold on to Lippett and Matt Hazel, which, IMO, would be a very very good thing. Hazel and Lippett will not last a day on the open market, and both of them are potential starters as soon as next year, but definitely in 2017. I have always liked Matthews and thought he was under-used but the fact is, we just don't need him. He plays Devante Parkers and Greg Jennings type roles. With Martavis Bryant suspended and the Steelers having the worst CB corps in the league, they might be buyers.
Agreed Roc, but I'm still right. Reshad was established as a good safety before this staff arrived, and Grimes was also a top rated CB in ATL. Cincy always paid the 'has been' guys like Pacman, Roy Williams, Gibril Wilson... There's a crazy list of guys like that.....And Coyle revived them. But I've never seen a young DB develop aside from the 1st round picks they constantly spent on CBs. If Taylor breaks through like he's supposed to......and maybe 1 of either McCain2 or Lippett pans out, I'll have to shut up about this.
Tory was already solid and Deltha was Elite in (Denver) I feel like you guys misinterpreted what I meant by develop. But damn, flashback to 99'-2000 there.... Woah !
Seriously? When he was the Bengals DB coach, developing corners and safeties was his specialty. He had a lot of success with reclamation projects that were other team's castoffs.
If we got a 6 or 7 I'd call it a win. I didn't have will davis as draft able a few years ago and he's done little to change that feeling. He's never met a tackle he wanted to make and his ball skills are average. His instincts are poor...let's just cut to the chase There's little I like about his game. Can't get a 3rd round pick back...get what you can and move on. It's a sunk cost at this point.
eh, I'd still like to give him a chance. He's young and cheap. At this point, I don't think we can have enough DBs and what are we going to trade him for? Another backup, possible STer? I would really hate to see us not give a guy a shot, who dealt with some injuries early in his career, then him go to another contender and become a solid starter for them.
One guy that comes to mind is Reggie Nelson. Disappointing in his time with the Jags but when he got to Cincy, Coyle improved him quite a bit. Outside of that, I got nuthin'.
Tannehill, Pouncey, Miller, Matthews, Vernon, Jones, Jenkins, Grimes, Wake, not bad. You could add SSmith, Vontae, Odrick, Hartline, Misi, Langford, J Wilson, N Carroll, C Clay, C Clemons, J Long, plus Starks, Dansby, Burnett, Bush, Soliai, but who's counting?
I'm curious what is the difference in your mind between reviving a vet's career or turning a journeyman into a solid player from developing a rookie?
Obviously he's facing backups tonight, but this is what I mean. I've always thought Will Davis was a solid player who makes plays. Even if he's just our 4th or 5th CB on the roster, he's going to be better than anything we get back for trading him
He and his tackling (lack of) prowess need to go, just like the last two non-tackling CBs they dumped.
Kind of makes me wonder if this was "leaked" just to light a fire under his *** to get him going. If so, it at least seems to have worked, albeit, preseason.
Me. Suck it haters. The main reason we are as talented as we are today is because of Ireland, we just have a ton of stupid fans like most fan bases lol. He sure did make for a convenient scapegoat for f****** bullygate though smdh. AND F*** DION (even tough I can relate). 1 WEEK AWAY!!!!
It has finally hit me, and i've got it now .....Why does'nt Ross hire LBerFinest to run the organization, and then the Super Bowl runs/wins begin.
31 other teams are just racing to snatch him up to build their roster... Hell, even Rick Spielman got another GM job. NFL owners/executives are just as stupid as us fans I guess.
