Use Galant's thread for news on up-to-date cuts. Use this thread to discuss your thoughts on the depth chart, predictions etc. around the final 53 man roster. Currently Rostered Players (As Of Sunday, Sept. 6th 5:17pm ET) Underlined players are ones I feel may still be at risk for being cut to make space for a player we pick up or traded for a player. We may keep one of either Hull, Luc or Paysinger and cut Hazel. Especially if Hazel is eligible for practice squad.
Yea, I am. I don't want to lose AJ Johnson. I do not want to lose Hull or Newitt. I do not want to lose Davidson and Dieke. At least AJ Johnson and Dieke are going to be on a roster.
Not my prediction, but rather who I would keep: OFFENSE (24) QB (2) Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore RB (4) Lamar Miller, Damien Williams, Jay Ajayi, Mike Gillislee TE (3) Jordan Cameron, Dion Sims, Jake Stoneburner OL (9) Branden Albert, Jason Fox, Ja'Wuan James, Mike Pouncey, Sam Brenner, Jamil Douglas, Billy Turner, Dallas Thomas, Jeff Linkenbach WR (6) Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills, Devante Parker, Jarvis Landry, Rishard Matthews, Matt Hazel DEFENSE (26) DT (5) Ndamukong Suh, Earl Mitchell, Jordan Phillips, Anthony Johnson, C.J. Note 2: I'm dropping Linkenbach for another LB (Davidson) or DB (Thompson) if I know Albert goes week 1. PS(10): Hewitt(LB), Davidson(LB), Aultman(WR), Dieke(DE), Francis(DT), Luc(LB), Semisch(TE), Thompson(S), + two others from elsewhere (preferably OL).
I strongly disagree with keeping 4 RB's on the 53 when Gillislee is still PS eligible. The same arguement for Stoneburner. Unless he is filling some important ST role I haven' noticed I would rather have him and Semisch on the PS and Mike Hull on the 53. We certainly don't need 9 OL on the the 53. A couple OL on the PS is fine. Nobody is going to poach Cedric Thompson if we put him on the practice squad. He didn't impress, in fact, he kinda depressed me. We don't have to give up great special teams players like Hull,Bowman, Don Jones. This idea of keeping a certain number of offensive players because it is traditionally done that way is nonsense. IMO, They had already made up their mind about AJ Francis when they drafted Jordan Phillips.
Know he is just back from injury, but Jordan Tripp looked less than average last night, I bet he goes to PS, won't be on final 53. We must do better there. This unit is one injury away from a catastrophe. Most shallow position on team, without question. McCain is a HUGE disappointment, also looks very average, lets hope he improves as season goes. Paysinger will make it due to ST ability, but would probably get smoked in coverage, lit up on run. Vigil is green, but less green than the rest of them and likely sticks on 53, but inactive on game day. So where are we if one our top 3 goes down??? IN TROUBLE. We know Misi's injury history. I expect this is where there will be some type of trade or other surprise activity. We can't go in to the season with the amount of injury risk, average play, and inexperience that we have here. A high % of our scheme, or down and distance will dictate that we will only have two LB's on the field at any given time, but even with that we are woefully thin here. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Hazel sticks as 5th WR, and Matthews is indeed traded. I really can't see us keeping 6, and I agree with Bpk that C. Jones makes it as returner and L. James does not. So we would already have one extra there, that you otherwise would not, can't see Jones, Hazel, and Matthews all making it. Something will give there for the benefit of the LB group.
I'll be curious to see what Philly does with Barkley. If they cut him, I probably prefer him to Moore.
I doubt we'd cut Moore for Barkley. Best case IMO would be sign Barkley this year as the #3, and elevate him to #2 next year (if he proves worthy).
I'm having a hard time with Gillislie, LaMike James and Christion Jones. Before last night I thought it would be James as a 4th RB/Returner and Gillilslie would be gone - He's never done anything. Last night Gillislie looked better than I have ever seen him. James looked good running the ball but completely botched that Punt return and Jones looked absolutely explosive as a returner. I still think stick Gillislie on the PS and keep James and Jones but do we have the luxury if keeping a guy like Jones as just a Specialist. I just dont see it.
Thats a fact. He looked fine on Kickoffs but hold your breathe on punt returns. He did get better as the season went on nut I am just glad he is not doing those duties any longer. Don't want him getting hurt returning kicks when he is so valuable to our offense. What do you think about Jones? He looked fearless and explosive with good vision.
I'm not sure LaMike or Gillislee are really NFL caliber players. Fred Jackson though, is a beast with a chip on his shoulder and he shouldn't be too expensive either. Let''s get Fred! Let them have fun with Shady who carries the ball with both arms flailing around his body and Mr. fumbles Brown, while we steal their true beast back for probably his last productive season in this league, but of course, at the right price.
One more to go! Surprised by Stoneburner and Christion Jones... but that means they keep LMJ imo. I disagree with them.
looks like we already have only Tannehill and Moore, Thompson was cut before according to Abramson 53 men roster : http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2015/09/05/breaking-down-the-dolphins-53-man-roster/
So here is our 53 for now : Quarterbacks (2): Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore Running backs (4): Lamar Miller, Damien Williams, LaMike James, Jay Ajayi Wide Receivers (6): Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills, Rishard Matthews, Matt Hazel Tight ends (2): Jordan Cameron, Dion Sims Offensive line (9): Branden Albert, Dallas Thomas, Mike Pouncey, Jamil Douglas, Ja’Wuan James, Jason Fox, Billy Turner, Jeff Linkenbach, Jacques McClendon Defensive line (9): Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon, Derrick Shelby, Terrence Fede, Ndamukong Suh, Earl Mitchell, Jordan Phillips, C.J. Mosley, A.J. Francis Linebackers (7): Kelvin Sheppard, Koa Misi, Jelani Jenkins, Chris McCain, Zach Vigil, Spencer Paysinger, Neville Hewitt Defensive backs (11): Brent Grimes, Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, Zack Bowman, Brice McCain, Bobby McCain, Tony Lippett, Reshad Jones, Walt Aikens, Michael Thomas, Jordan Kovacs Specialists (3): Andrew Franks, Matt Darr, John Denney
Defensive Line, Running Back, Wide Receiver are all deep and can absorb injuries. Offensive Line and Defensive Backfield have a ton of bodies, but lack depth after the top two or three. Linebackers and Tight Ends seem like they are fine. No game changers, but solid play makers. Quarterback is a one person position, as always and on all teams. Rookie kickers is exciting and concerning. My initial opinion, anyway,
I've been rooting for him all along. I see a kid with instincts, good pursuit, and good coverage skills.
Lots of information on him in this link , as you mentioned he could provide plus coverage ability . May be a hybrid type of LB / S and could be a real positive on special teams . He didn't get a lot of snaps , so he must have caught the coaches attention during practices . http://www.patspulpit.com/2015/4/28...-next-hidden-gem-3-neville-hewitt-lb-marshall

That's exactly what happened. Philbin gave him props in the passing game after being out there with the 1st team D once as I recall. Hard not to root for Neville. He was a demon for The Herd, and is another high character guy. Great article btw. Thanks for linking it.
I remember when I watched the highlight films of the four rookie linebackers. The ones that impressed me most were Virgil and Hewitt. I didn't think Hewitt would make it due to his lack of press. I just assumed that was because his highlight video was just well put together. I will also say I have never seen anything special about Tripp. I didn't understand it when he was drafted and I haven't seen anything since he was on the roster. Some people are seeing something I am not.
