    Mando:

Cornerback Will Davis, on the trade block three days ago, not only didn't get traded but has survived the initial cut to 53 players and is on the Miami Dolphins roster now.
Davis, a third-round pick in 2013, had two interceptions in approximately three quarters of work in the final preseason game Thursday. That apparently nailed down a roster spot for him.
The Dolphins are keeping seven cornerbacks: Brent Grimes, Jamar Taylor, Brice McCain, Bobby McCain, Zack Bowman, Tony Lippett and Davis.
The Dolphins made moves -- most of them expected -- to reach the NFL mandated 53-man limit. Here are the moves:

    WR Damarr Aultman

    QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson
    C Sam Brenner
    DT Deandre Coleman
    LB James Davidson
    DE Emmanuel Dieke
    RB Mike Gillislee
    WR Cobi Hamilton
    T Donald Hawkins
    LB Mike Hull
    DT Anthony Johnson
    S Don Jones
    G/T Michael Liedtke
    LB Jeff Luc
    TE Tim Semisch
    TE Jake Stoneburner
    K Caleb Sturgis
    S Cedric Thompson
    LB Jordan Tripp
    T Aundrey Walker

    WAIVED/INJURED:
    WR Christion Jones

    TERMINATED CONTRACT:
    QB Josh Freeman

Maybe they're thinking of reducing that percentage a bit to keep him fresh throughout games (and season)?

If Suh plays as we hope he will, the defense will keep itself fresh. Oh, and Tannehill on the other side might help out too.

Don't mind only keeping two QB's. Really wasn't anyone else worth keeping. If we lose Tannehill and Moore season's over anyway.

So, if Christion Jones clears waivers, he automatically goes onto our IR list. So we have him for another year if we want to keep him.

With regards the DL, maybe we should remember there's been a push on the Dolphins to reduce workload, rearrange practices, so that fatigue doesn't build up...?

As of now, Vigil and Hewitt are on the 53. The latter is somewhat of a surprise, but glad to see it and hope he sticks.

That should be it for cuts for today. It's late over here on this side of the pond so I'm signing off!

Curious to see if the Fins manage to pick up some quality depth for the weaker areas of the roster before next week!

    Have a good day guys!

Dang I kinda liked Stoneburner, would like to have him back on the PS. I hope they don't cut Matt Hazel he may be a gem. I know we're already loaded at WR but psh. Don't let other teams get their hands on potential talent.

I've learned you can't put too much stock in college kicking stats, simply based on the angles and other variables.

Olindo Mare was only 15/24 (62%) in college and spent a year out of the NFL before becoming our kicker for 10 seasons. Conversely, Caleb Sturgis was the man in college, with a good percentage and lots of clutch kicks on his resume.

I guess you never really know.

As for Christion Jones, odds are the Dolphins never see him again.

He wasn't injured enough to land on IR. And teams are prohibited from cutting an injured player outright . So if he reverts to our IR, I imagine they'll work out an injury settlement at some point, since he'll be healthy enough to play soon.

The rule with injury settlements is, you can't sign a player for six weeks after his settlement agreement period. So if we work out a 4-week settlement, we couldn't bring him back until Week 10. In the meantime, he's likely to have offers from other teams.

He cause a fumble in the Atlanta game (I believe that was the game), and he was in on a # of ST tackles as well.

While I believe he is one of the likelier cuts if we claim other people, I think he has a spot on the PS if he goes unclaimed.

I don't understand why. The differences between college and pro for a kicker seem to be less than just about any other position so you'd think it would be one of the easier positions to project at the next level. But I've seen it over and over where great college kickers can't replicate their success at the next level and average or even below average kickers go on to the pros and play great. There seems to be no discernible pattern. Even personality can go either way. Some are confident and some are neurotic and either personality can produce the kicker who's consistent and reliable. Who knows what we'll have with Franks or what Sturgis will do in the future? I see it as a coin flip. The quote by Nogle is stupid. It implies that those college stats has some relevance when history shows it doesn't. He could have implied that one kicker would be better b/c of what breakfast cereal brand they liked and it would have been just as meaningful.
