    My earliest Dolphin-related memory:

    Now, that's a touchdown dance.

It was when I was 4 or 5 and I heard that Dolphins were smart and could kill sharks. Seriously. :pointlol:

I then watched and loved the 70s team. I was very young, but really dug Czonka and Griese. I later was a huge fan of A.J. Duhe. I was a big fan of Nat Moore as well as the Killer Bs. Then that dude Marino, but my absolute fav was................that's right....Cleo Lemon.

Seriously, my family were all die hard Giant fans. I started playing football when I was 8 years old, I wanted to play like Czonk. I played RB and LB. I used to love putting my head and shoulder down and smashing guys, forearming guys.

My church used to have annual picnics and they'd always try to line up a few celebrities to get a bigger turnout. Well, one year, the Mark Brothers (Duper and Clayton) were there and as usual, a pickup game formed and the football started flying. Now, these guys were paid to be there and surely playing wasn't part of their job description, but they took the field anyway and played with the youth for about an hour. Then afterwards, they talked about all the great players they had faced, great football moments and what it was like to be a pro. They were just hanging out and being regular guys.

I remember thinking, "Darn, these guys really care about us...and I've always rooted against the Dolphins just to make everyone else mad." And I did too...whoever was playing Miami, they were my team for the week (I did the same with the Hurricanes too). Seriously, I got jumped in elementary school after the Redskins won it all and I came to school celebrating and laughing at all the kids in my school in Davie (I went to Nova). About five of em beat me up on the kickball field during recess that Monday. Although, I do remember getting beat up a lot better than I remember Duper and Clayton years later. I can see my dad throwing a deep TD pass to one of them though and thinking that it was a life-changing moment for him somehow. It's funny how the mind works and the memories we hold onto from childhood.

After that day with the Mark brothers though, I couldn't root against the Dolphins anymore; I knew those two receivers on the field...they were friends of mine! I mean, obviously they weren't, but as a kid you think like that. And I've been a fanatic ever since.

Before I was interested in any kind of tackle football, me dad would bet on games like it was a drug. So I saw football all the time during the season but had 0 interest. But whenever I did pay attention to the games, it always seemed as if the Miami Dolphins were kicking mud into the butts of whoever they were playing. ALWAYS! Then one day a neighbor of mine challenged me to a $5 wager for Super bowl 17 I believe it was. I asked who was playing and when he told me Dolphins vs Redskins I immediately chose the Dolphins. We lost that one but ever since then itS been Miami, no if ands or buts...And when the 84 season started with the blowout of the Redskins.... Well that season just solidified it.

This! I was interested in Football because of Madden 98 (which had that sweet intro btw., with hits that would get you suspended for years by good ol' Rog in today's NFL) and I asked my uncle if he could tape the Phins vs. Jax game for me since he had pay-tv and he was the only person in the whole neighborhood in Germany who was able to watch the NFL. So the next day I, beeing a 12 year old boy with no clue what actually happened, watched the last game of Dan Marino and thought that this team would be the one I should root for for the rest of my life. With my favorite soccer team Borussia Mönchengladbach also being a total dumpster fire at this time, it seemed like a logical choice. And here I am, a proud and battle-tested supporter of the Miami Dolphins who will wear his Cameron Wake jersey on Sunday with pride.

Since the team first came into existence. Before, actually. They had a public contest to decide on the name for the team. I was psyched when they chose Dolphins. After all, who doesn't love dolphins.

In 1984 I did a road trip across the USA. As an European living in Switzerland I had no clue about American Football before. Soccher is our major sport in Switzerland (and since Roger Federer Tennis of course). During the trip I learned a lot about Football and attended a game in week 2 at the Louisiana Superdome. But no, none of the two teams got my heart (who wonders, it was Bucs vs. Saints...13-17).

When we arrived in Florida I bought a ticket for the game of the Dolphins vs. the Colts in the old Orange Bowl. Wow, this was a whole other Story. I immediately felt in Love with the Dolphins, especially after an 80 y TD Pass from Dan to Mark Duper. The games outcome was 44-7 Miami. And since that Inspiration I am every day 1 day longer a Dolphins diehard.

I became a fan after attending my first Dolphins game at the old Orange Bowl with my dad. Dec 2, 1985 when we beat the undefeated Bears and Marino just shredded that Defense. The atmosphere was wild, and electric. I've been devoted to the Dolphins ever since. I would love to see the swagger return to our fan base that we had back in those days, but that's a whole other story.

Don't forget about the Swiss Miss, Martina had something to do with the popularity of tennis in Switzerland, laying the ground work for Darth Federer, lol.

It would have to be Superbowl XIX.

My dad worked as a potter his whole life & we had an American student Danny Finnegan over on a scholarship in 1980 (I was 7). He was from Buffalo originally & used to come back almost every year to visit & work through the summer. I don’t remember the exact time the NFL entered my consciousness, just that the colours & names seem so different to the English football clubs we all grew up with.

As Danny was from Buffalo I had to pick a rival team so we could have some competition. Miami seemed so exotic compared to rural west country England & then they turned out to be a really good team.

I was 12 & it was the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] time I’d been allowed to stay up that late to watch (the Superbowl doesn’t start over here until 11:30pm). I only managed the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] half & remember finding out the next day that we’d lost. I’ve always had a spot for underdogs, probably explains why I support Aston Villa as well, I vowed then that Dolphins would always be my team & felt sure we’d win a superbowl pretty soon.

Anyway 30yrs later I’m still waiting & forever hopeful.

I saw Reskins vs Seahawks back in 1994 with Danny & in high school 2 of us were season ticket holders with the London Monarchs in the old World League (we even followed them abroad to Amsterdam 1 year). Last year I finally got to see the Dolphins live at Wembley & it was awesome.

Then weirdly, this year my MD came up to me at work & says his brother Bruce Diesel who had worked at Tottenham Hotspur for years was leaving to go to an NFL team & guess what it’s the Dolphins. People talk about 6 degrees of separation & now I’m 3 degrees away from RT (not that I’m likely to get a Christmas card or anything).
Obviously this year I’m off again to see the game against the Jets & maybe 1 day I’ll get to Sunlife to see a game.

Never noticed before you are in Zurich. That's a beautiful city. I went to Europe and lived in Germany for some years from 1989 and visited Austria and Switzerland.. very nice. Also saw the US lose like crazy in the 1990 World Cup and that's when I started following soccer.

Yeah that was a great game by Smith. Only problem was he (understandably) didn't have anything left for the next game.

You're absolutely right. Loved her to. And now with Stan the Man Wawrinka as a second top five Player I for sure realize and appreciate how fortunate swiss Tennis fans are. And Belinda Bencic just started her run to the top. Dolphins and Tennis - this season could be a fantastic one!

Yeah, Switzerland as a Country and Zurich as the biggest Swiss City are wonderful. The only things we really miss here are the NFL (but watch the games live on Internet is not that bad) and the width of the Country.
