Ok, Tannehill passed 22-34 224 yds, 1 TD 0 INTs. I like the 64.7% completion and that he didn't throw a pick. I don't like that he threw the ball as much as he did. To me, 34 attempts is too much. We have a back that we didn't use that much. I think it should be down to about 20-25 passes a game.

What do y'all think about this?

he's lucky he didn't throw a pick. there were like 2 throws that were in the d's hands and dropped, also had some tipped balls which could be dangerous.

I totally agree and have been grilling Lazor for it. We need to have balance. Lamar has to get 20-25 carries.

Yeah 20-25 sounds good. They need to keep pounding the ball even when it's not working. Eventually he'll break through.

Honestly our offensive line could barely hold their man. I dont think Lazor had any confidence that the offensive line would create anything for Miller..

You make a good point. I know you saw that pass that gave Landry a bodyslam after he made the catch. That was dangerous. I'm glad he made the catch but he should've made another decision down the field.

I thought we should run the ball more as well. Lamar is too explosive of a back to only get 13 carries.

Well I don't think we threw the ball too much but certainly Miller needs more than 13 carries in a game.

He needs to trust his players more. Give them the benefit of the doubt. It's the first game of the season, I'd give them a chance.

if you think that was too much, what about half the league's qb's threw for 50+ attempts today....... Also losing 90% of the game kinda leads to throwing it more.

just an opinion: 1) we won but not convincingly so... 2) the offensive line sucked the entire first half, showing some signs of coming together in the second. there was no run-game because there was no run-blocking the entire first half, simple as that... 2) Philbin was out-coached throughout the game. he simply has to do better or go away. the offensive line continues to be our Achilles heel. 3) Tannehill had a very bad day, having said that, the receiving-corp saved his bacon by hulling-in many badly thrown passes. 4) we got reffed on big time in Washington. way too many bad calls... 5) did we not get Suh to resolve the opposition run-game? what happened? they ran all over us. 6) Landry is a special edition, a hero destined to be a legend, Matthews earned the start for next game, Jordan worth his weight in gold at tight end. 7) got to improve to survive the AFCE

Yep, we have to throw to setup the run. The D has to be thinking pass. I expect 34 will be a low number of attempts going forward. It would have been higher this game if Washington hadn't run as well as they did the first half.

That is a lot for anybody. I just think you have a back in Lamar Miller that you should use more often. That should lower down the attempts a bit.

it begins with the offensive line. they get a push on the defensive line & the running game appears. when they have to adjust to a running game, the passing game emerges.

Yea 34 attempts is not too many. And yes, we did not have enough carriers with Miller (or touches in general), but a lot of that had to do with how the first half went.

Miami's run game got shut down right away. More success early on would have increased the amount of carries.

    226 / 34 = 6.647

    THAT'S THE FREAKING THE PROBLEM!

Pass it deeper downfield. Get more yardage. Get the defense to back-up a little bit so this average O-line has some semblance of leverage when you call a run.

You abandoned the run after like 3 carries down by a field goal in the first quarter. That's asinine regardless of success.

Andrew Luck threw the ball 49 times. 34 is not that much. If we had more success in the first half, we would have run more.

Yes. We had two possessions and no drives to show for it thanks in part to ineffective running and then I believe a 2 minute drive in the first half (should pass).

The idea that you can consistently have 25 pass attempts per game is really not that feasible in today's NFL.

That's pretty much how I see it. Even in a game like today where we had 19 plays in the first half, and 34 in the second. Unless we're gashing somebody early, that's going to be the "balance."

Well....not necessarily, BUT if that's your gameplan you wind up with a team that is built around defense and running a la Buffalo or Seattle (there are tons of historical examples in the last 15 years as well).

Most of the time those teams don't have $100M QBs, a HC pulled from the Packers organization, and a history of spending its resources more on WRs than DBs. In Seattle's case, they will, but Wilson is an exception to the general rule.

Entire GAME is pass happy nowadays. I'm not a fan of it, but you can beat your brains out on 8 min drives and have someone answer it in under 2.

Well, Skins secondary sucks, their DL was beating us in the early run game, and they were squatting on short routes and screens so we had to loosen up their D with more passing, esp. intermediate and deep, I think. BUT once they accomplished that they could balanced the run/pass better again!

Ok. I still say we need to run the ball more to balance out the passing attack.

Need about 8 more runs a game. Miller should get 18-20 looks, but some of those can be screens.

I have Lamar on my fantasy team I'm pissed!

He was barely given a chance today, in rushing or receiving.

Of course, Lazor's entire offense is garbage, I hate west coast dink/dunk style. I think it's an extremely spineless, and is only necessary for teams lacking talent. The Dolphins don't have this problem. Yes, the pass protection was questionable at times, but that's still no excuse to not try and stretch the field.

I would say I can't wait til he's gone next year but I said that about Philbin last year and... he's still here ruining my life.

The way miller finished the game today sent a message. That screen was killer and who in the worlD saw us picking up that 3rd and 8??? Hell of a run and a real "gimme the damn ball" statement for miller.

Redskins took away the run today, they were attacking the los, the problem boiled down to Tannehill not playing at an optimal level.

We pretty much had to pass to set up the run
