It's called being consistent. Tannehill made some really bad decisions. I understand the other issues, and have said they were issues. Doesn't change Tannehill's poor play.

You clearly haven't seen any posts of mine over the past several months, have you?

OVERALL, he did play well. he played at about a B- level, which I would grade him out. Nothing outstanding nothing fantastic. But nothing Terrible or Devastatingly horrible as some would grade him.

Don't just look at the negatives to grade him. Look at the positives as well. He made some nice plays, had some good decisions. made plays, had some drives going.
And had a great final drive where he showed poise and got the win at the end.

take the bad, weight with the good and if you have more good than bad than grade accordingly.
The problem is that ppl are seeing more bad from the game yesterday that I just don't see.
THe film doesn't show it and ...ahem... neither do the stats.

so what are they basing this terible play off of?
some expectations that Washington was just gonna lay down ?

Tannehill had at best a C rating yesterday, if you ask me.

honestly I probably have, I'm just not very good at remebering names to posts.

THe BIGGEST bone of contention I have with this whole argument is acting like a few terrible plays=terrible play

They're the plays that separate the contenders from the phonies at the games most pivotal position.

He's still got time and chemistry he needs to work on with this new WR core. But enough's enough. Time for this kid to grab the bull by its horns once and for all.

Again, he had a bad game. EVERY QB has bad games. You making declarations after one bad game, is the problem.

right and considering he only had one receiver on the team that was here last year it may take some time.
add that to some oline issues and a run game that is up and down, lets just take everything in and judge.

its easy to throw all the shade at one guy but without looking at everything you don't see the REAL picture.

IMO he showed just as much in the second half, and more importantly at the end of the 4th that prove he is changed and more on the up with the contenders than he is to the phonies.

closing out that game with two first downs was huge for him and the offense

You value your posts pretty highly evidently...I guess if somebody has to...

Disagreeing with your attitude and BS does not equal trailing. Since you quote my post and directly say I don't expect more, when the post you quoted had it, verbatim, you look like an idiot, so I'll take you at face value.

I'm done with your crap, but please, go ahead and reply and get the last word.

that's cool, I'm not gonna try to change your opinion. I just didn't see as much bad plays as you did I guess.

If you took every play he made, I would say he had much more good than bad. But that's just me. Maybe his shoe lace was untied on that pass to Cameron, I guess we can throw that one in the bad category.

I am certainly willing to give Tannehill the benefit of the doubt for yesterday. He obviously is still trying to develop timing with his new receivers. Landry and Tannehill appear fine, but the rest of the receivers and Tannehill need to keep working on their timing this week.

Also, for the majority of the game, the OL appeared to be as dysfunctional as it has been in recent years. So this was obviously another area which affected the play of Tannehill yesterday.

As far as the Dolphins running out the clock at the end of the game is concerned. While it was nice to see, we have to remember that they were able to do this against a very bad Redskins defense. The Redskins can't be confused with a good football team. In fact prior to the game, most rankings showed the Redskins at or near the bottom of every poll ranking NFL teams.

When this season is over, I expect the Redskins to be selecting in the first three picks of next years draft because they are an awful team. The Dolphins won yesterday because over the course of the game, the team with the better talent was able to find a way to win. Next week they are fortunate to be playing another terrible team. After that though, they are going to have to improve their play is various areas throughout the team, including at the QB position if they expect to win games against the better teams they will be facing in the future.

Yeah, I think the oline was a huge part of Tannehill's struggles, but I still think a C rating is very fair for his performance yesterday.

Guys, Tanne had a bad day. Period. Don't over think it. You can not keep leaving easy points on the field. That will catch up with you. Also, if you keep slowly matriculating the ball down field, that catches up with you. The OL just can't keep that up. I didn't think the OL played as bad as some do. I think Douglas and Pouncey made some good plays. Tanne wasn't getting gang raped on every play like it had been in the past. Hey, we finally ran a successful screen. It was great to see Douglas and Pouncey getting down field. Some of the problems in the pass protection, could have been mitigated if Tanne had the presence to side step or step up, etc. JMO. With the talent around the NFL, you rarely see any team going through a whole game with a perfect pocket. Tanne was a bit stiff and just seemed a bit out of sorts. I don't know why. And deej, Tanne will NEVER be the dual threat type of QB you want him to be. Never. He can decently run straight line stuff with one cut or so at times, but he will never have that straight line and circular movements whilst keeping the eyes down field etc, etc, etc type. He usually starts off hot and ends up slow, lets hope that is reversed this year.

The LBs really stunk it up. Misi was around making plays, but they have to do something. Shake it up. Start Vigil. I don't know, but if they don't get better, that will certainly be a problem.

What would be the standard for grading his performance, iow, what tier of QB is he being graded in?

If we had a weightlifting comp on this site, and the winner benched 300lbs, that grade would be an A++

If you were in a weightlifting comp with NFL lineman that same weight would be an F.

    So to put a grade to it, imo;

    Tier 3 = C-
    Tier 2 = D
    Tier 1 = F

As a franchise QB (tier 1) that was a fail, bouncing passes off defenders hands, missing TDs and creating a fumble which could have been easily avoided by just going down and taking the sack is enough to be a fail for a franchise QB, leaving off some of the other things, and any franchise QB would tell you the same.

Tier 2, still a bad performance, not a passing grade, the QB has to be better than that, the QB has to be a big reason you win games, not a reason why the game was a lot closer than it had to be, never mind lucky that we didn't lose if one of picks stuck to the defenders hands.

Tier 3, it's below average, but as a tier 3 QB it was still a passing grade, because you know with a tier 3 QB the team is going to have to win most games without relying on the QB.

Imo, he has to be graded as a tier 2 QB, he has to be a big contributor to wins, this performance was bad, and it could have been disastrous had a defender held on to 1 of those picks, he could have made up for that by hitting on one of those TDs, but he missed those as well, and the truth is that 1 of his best throws of the night was a slightly overthrown pass that Cameron did a great job of reeling in, and then it's just a lot of short passes, the bar has raised, and that isn't good enough for a passing grade at this level.

so With 1 TD, and no Int's. A nice drive at the end of the first. Strong drives in the second half. and a final drive that saw us close out the game is only worth a D?

    you are joking right?

some of you are so out of touch with reality it's amusing.

Again, man, it's not black and white. You are severely downplaying his bad plays, while some others are overplaying his bad plays. Tannehill didn't have a good game, overall. If you are saying he had a good game, then that SHOULD mean that you would be happy with him playing the same way he did yesterday, every week. I would NOT be happy if every game this season, he plays like he did yesterday. I don't give a rat's *** about his rating. That is a fraudulent rating. It's like the opposite end of the spectrum for why I say rating is a terrible way of evaluating a QB. Last year, through the first three or four games, I said the rating was fraudulent, because he had a ton of drops by receivers, drops on long balls that were easily catchable for tds. Tannehill's rating suffered because of it. Now, yesterday, he had a good rating, but it's deceptive, because he had easily intercepted balls, dropped by defenders. Yes, he had some good plays. Overall, though, he did not play well, i.e., he did not play to a level that ANYONE should be happy if he played like that in any other games this season.

ive rewatched the dion sims play 10 times, I'm pretty sure the route wasnt supposed to go to the endzone, i think sims and ryan had to adjust on the fly when the corner undercut the route, ryan got caught in a pickle going to his left, dion had to stretch the route out last second, ryan had to adjust his rlease last second, and we know the result, this was a tough throw to make..if sims was open on the original design i think like normal ryan hits him in stride, we know how good ryan is at going either direction on the run..

I still believe and ive been saying this for four years now, the coaches are not using the skillset correctly, how many times did I complain last year when we would go a whole first half without rolling him or running the read option and the end result would be a subpar performance? then the next weekend lazor or sherman would get him on the run early, run some read options early and the result would be above average?, i'll tell you because I know, I'm following this theory very closely, it happened a lot.

what happened yesterday?, static pocket for most of the game really, nothing in the first half when threats can be established., and once again nothing from ryan on his own, no realization that him running on his own accord is important to his overall performance and might help ignite his team....this in inexcusable to me..

I remember dozens of members saying..''yeah, he does seem like a different qb when he runs early''

dude, where did I bring up rating? I don't care about his QBR. Thats not what I'm talking about I'm talking about his rating/grade for the game as In I would give him a B- for his performance.

Its really hard to judge him on his overall play since they were only on the field 22 minutes. If every game the offense was only on the field for 22 minutes than maybe we have more issues than just the offense and tannehill.
Thats why its hard to put the blame and fault of this game on him saying HE left points on the board.

the ONLY points that he directly lost would be the horrible play where we lost yardage on goal to go.
we settled for a FG where we could have easily had a TD.

Other than that the other points were NOT on him. the 4and 1 was NOT Tannehill leaving points on the board.
the Fumble where we were driving and in scoring position was NOT on Tannehill.

those were at LEAST 6 points we should have had that wasn't in his control.

You'll take 10 points? Not me.

I won't sit here and count, INTs that could have been, passes that were dropped. Because in the end those usually all even out. Let PFF sort that out at the end of the year.

But you look at the end result and the offense scored 10 points. In the 3rd preseason game, they scored 7 points in 3 quarters. So you're thinking, maybe it's just a fluke, and they're hiding the good stuff.

Now we get to the season, and there wasn't any good stuff. A lot of dink and dunk again. And look at that, a ypa in the 6's again. I really hope it's a one game anomaly or else I have to go to the waiver wire to find a new QB for my fantasy teams ;)

10 points against one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Only one game, but that one game was a little alarming. Especially when the argument in favor of the coaching staff has been continuity.

That's because when he runs early, the defense has to stop blitzing through the B gaps and stay at home....which buys extra time to throw the ball. And the same thing happens when our run game starts off strong; it opens up space and allows Tannehill to hit those short passes that he excels with. But when the run's not there (like yesterday) and a team takes away the short routes (like yesterday), then we're not playing to our quarterback's strengths at all and defenses are forcing him to beat them deep (like the Sims play). I'm not saying Tannehill can't do that BUT it's not what this offense was built to do every play.

The other thing that was plainly obvious to me yesterday was that Tannehill looked nervous in the first half; it was like he couldn't relax out there and was on the verge of panic. We saw the exact opposite in preseason and he played amazing for his limited time on the field, so I think its all about him establishing confidence on early drives and learning to relax. I don't know if you guys have noticed but almost every time he runs for a first down (last year included), he's smiling in the huddle on the next play....and then he usually delivers a beautiful pass on time.

So yeah, you're right that he's a different QB when he runs early....but he's also different when the offense works by design early too. I think it's just a matter of getting him comfortable.

What are you some you talking bout regarding the Sims play? I just watched again. It was a designed roll out to the left. Tanne hardly had any pressure. Sims broke free a bit later in the play, but there was certainly ample time to see the play develop and hit him with more touch on the ball. Where he threw it, no one could have caught it. Makes no sense. Yeah, Landry was coming across on a shallower route, but Tanne was looking at Sims the whole time. Watch it again and see where Tanne is looking. Even if he looked at him for a second, that's football, you have different options. You hit the best one, but that's besides the point. It was a touch play designed to go the way it developed, but not the way it ended. It was just a bad pass. Move on.

Re-watched this game twice today(condensed versions) no doubt he threw some bad throws, Sims and the two near picks, but I still see a QB who battled to the end to right the ship. Because of that he's part of the win. The last drive where it was something like 3 and 2 on our own 20 something, he escapes pressure and throws a strike to Matthews. When I see a game like this from him I think of all the drops and picks he threw and didn't get much help in those games, he'll be fine.
He hasn't cried, doesn't get hurt, he's like a rubber ball out there, doesn't cower, doesn't give up, you can expect his A game against the Jags. It's a matter of time and he'll have his A game late in the season when it matters. I think we're in good shape for a much improved season, a winning season.

I think this is an excellent post, except one thing I would like your opinion on? dont you think because of what we know about him, shouldn't it be part of every gameplan to have his legs involved early in the game?, isnt this called being aware of your players strengths, or are you gonna give me the whole well, if we roll him out it cuts off half the field thing?

like I said all offseason and the past four years, until ryan himself starts to run for the very purpose of running and what that can do to a defense, we will not win a championship, that element of the game is far to important to be ignored...so either he needs a coming to jesus moment of his own, or his coordinator needs to get in his *** and tell him to fu%%in run at the first sign of a lane..yes, just because its the right thing to do, just because it may be what he needs, and what his team needs..

yes, but I believe the corner in coverage undercut the route so if ryan throws that where it was designed its intercepted, they both had to adjust from the undercut, and it didnt sync..

I totally disagree here bro. Regardless, it was designed, he was looking that way the whole time. He just had to throw with timing and touch. It was just a bad pass and bad play.

It's not like he undercut a route and deflected a ball and got in the way of the pass. It was supposed to be redzone touch pass over the defender. There was no one behind him. Better read, touch and accuracy, it's a TD.

Ryan wasnt completely terrible yesterdays but he was far from good. He didnt do the OFF any favors except for one drive before the half, that was probably his only solid drive. The drive we scored a FG on was due to Lamar and Jarvis fighting for yards, and of course, the game winning PR due to Juice. As big of a critic I can be on RT17, I dont expect this type of performance from him again (I sure hope not, I have him in both my fantasy football leagues) I will blame his problems this game on getting acquainted with his new WRs and TE in the first game of year. However, he has to be better or else we can kiss playoffs goodbye.

He had plenty of time to set, as there was like 8-9 yards between he and #93 Trent Murphy. He simply winged off a hop step. That there is what we call "happy feet". It's rookie, undisciplined stuff.
