He's right. It's high time Tannehill placed this town on his back and literally carried us to the playoffs. Not the coaches, coordinators, offensive linemen, receivers, running backs, linebackers, secondary, special teams or kicking specialists. Hell, it's a wonder we even bother fielding a team of 53 grown men, when clearly this all falls on the 4th year starting quarterback.

An NFL teams success hinges on the QB? Thanks for the insight Cote.

His quads better have biceps on top of pecs on top of quads. He needs to prove he's a franchise qb.

QB's are an after-thought. That's why the Trent Dilfers of the world play for the winning team in the Super Bowl every year.

See the scrubs who played in the last one? 4x winner Tom Brady and 1x winner, second highest rating in NFL history (after 1,500 attempts) Russell Wilson. I think we should have rolled with Moore and put all of the money into receivers.

Loved this part of the article...and its something I believe in fervantly. Are you a QB who takes what the defense gives you, or are you a QB that takes what he wants.

We NEED Ryan to start playing like he will take what he wants. He isnt playing for a contract. Hes not trying to prove he belongs. He now has mandate. Stop taking what the defense gives you. Put the fear of God into a defense. Its one thing holding him back. Dont care how athletic he is...how strong or smart he is. He has got to WANT to take what he WANTS. If he does not do that...he will never be anything more then a good NFL QB.

Agreed. Until he has that bonafide fire in the eyes he won't take the next step in his evolution. It's all about developing that killer instinct, because IMO he's already got that "it" factor. Until he can do that, I'm afraid his ceiling is Trent Dilfer.

QBs matter....IF you have one that is great and are building around the mentality that a top passing game is your ticket.

Non-elite QBs do sometimes get to (and win) Super Bowls, but when they do, evidence suggests it has far more to do with the defense, namely run defense.

Simply put, 21 of the last 22 Super Bowl competitors had either a top-10 passing game or a top-10 run defense. Last year, Miami ranked 17th in passing and 24th in run defense.

It's therefore clear that either the passing game or the run defense needs to get significantly better. I'm inclined to believe that the Dolphins would do better building up their run defense and letting whatever skills Tannehill offers be icing on the cake. That is typically how teams with non-elite QBs get to (and sometimes win) Super Bowls.

Saying that Tannehill is the key to winning is essentially saying that he needs to become Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, or Tom Brady.

Me, personally, I don't think I'm going to take that bet.

Interesting...I always associated the "it" factor as the QB having that killer instinct and takes what he wants, not what the defense gives him. You think "it" is something different?

Couldn't help it eh? I understand.

You won't find ANYBODY who will disagree that the QB is integral to the success of the team...to what degree, now there will be some debate. And rightly so...it just gets crazy because some can't see varying degrees in such things, only black and white.

Tanny's #'s last year were good enough to get a team into the playoffs. Of course everyone around here and in the media generally give the defense a pass even though they blew plenty of big moments last year and down the stretch were horrible. I don't care who your QB is but your not winning much or going to the playoffs when you allow 39, 13, 28, 41, 35 and 37 points in the final 6 games.

Gonna have to ask you to rewatch that Detriot game, the offense was inept and Matt Stafford was easily the best QB on the field that Sunday.

Offensive line was inept. Couldn't run or pass block.

Defense choked at the end, they had a chance to make a stand and instead they let the Lions drive the length of the field for the winning TD.

Clay also dropped a pass that hit him right in the hands for a TD.

lol. So we scored enough to win in the 4th quarter but our horrible defense allows them to march down the field and score....but the offense is at fault.

How many TDs must an offense score and lose before you blame the defense? This is so dumb.

And the defense could have allowed just a fg, but instead they let the other team march down the field and score a TD to win. Tannehill and the offense sat down with the lead. They had the game won. Ask any defensive player and they'll tell you that's all they want from the offense.

Some of you may think the article is stating the obvious, but it makes a very good point. We talk so much about coaching and Suh and everything else, but really the one thing that has to happen more than anything else is for Tannehill to keep improving and this should be a playoff team.

When the article mentioned "taking what the defense gives you" that's where the concern comes in with the last game against the Redskins. Because Tannehill didn't even do that at times. In the first half, the defense gave him a free TD served on a silver platter. Kenny Stills was WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE open. And Tannehill missed him. Badly. But he also played well when it mattered. That 2 minute drive was masterful.

I still have all the confidence in the world in Tannehill. I think he started slow last year too. He's hoping he gets it going this Sunday and keeps it going.
