Bottom Line through all this is that the Mets HAD a plan in place from Day 1. They have been nothing but safe with Matt and even were criticized for being overly safe. Imagine if the Mets decided to implement this late plan without the outburst from Matt and Boras? They would have been skewered as not wanting to win or caring. This was TOTALLY orchestrated by Boras with the acceptance of Harvey. Plain and simple. Boras felt he had no power in the decision making and went this direction. Harvey could have totally diffused the whole thing on Saturday but acted like a jerk. He woke up on Sunday morning totally floored by the public and fan reaction and came out with that statement. Boras put Harvey in a horrible situation and I would have loved to been in on that phone call between the two afterwards. Now he better go out and pitch well tonight or he will get ROASTED. The Mets did everything right in the handling of Harvey. I dont think anyone imagined that they would be where they are right now. Harvey was handed the crown to this city and also the key to this city. All he had to do was just express his concern about his health without it looking like EXTORTION. Both he and his agent failed miserably at that
Throwing that many splitters isn't good for the elbow I guess. It's too bad because he finally mastered that important 3rd pitch and it was pretty damn good too. Wonder if this injury will change the game plan with him moving forward on whether he will continue to throw the splitter as much or not. Again, still kind of strange that Cashman didn't make a single move outside of Dustin Ackely at the dead line. I get not wanting to trade your top 4 prospects but I don't know. And yes so happy the Sox have been playing nearly lights out baseball since the beginning of August, now I'm worried they won't have that top 10 draft pick protection. I'm being sarcastic, kind of, it is good to see them playing well especially their younger guys. Also I'm surprised none of the national media has been talking about how awful the Orioles have been the past 2 months or so. You have to wonder if Buck and/or Duquette are on the hot seat now. I'm sure Buck will be blaming the Yankees for their downfall.
Thing is not sure they could have done much but acquire a bat, and an avg one at that without giving up one of their prospects.....
I was talking more about pitching. I mean outside of Stephen Drew, who would you replace in the line up if everyone was healthy? During the trading deadline and before the 8/31 waiver period the Yankees were without Pineda and CC, with Severno being an unknown and Tanaka being a big ? mark. You would have thought they would have at least got an arm from somewhere even if it was just an innings eater.
I find it highly questionable that Girardi in Game 2 of the series sits Headley and puts both Ryan and Drew in the same lineup.....Why not try and win the series first then rest somebody....I mean Christ play Pirela over Ryan or Drew.... Unless Headley asked for the day I don't get it...
Maybe Girardi was looking at particular match up or Headley might have needed a day off to rest a nagging injury or whatever. Also what's up with Teixeira? He got hit by a pitch on his leg and might be gone for the rest of the year? He has some kind of nerve damage?
Whatever matchup suggest Ryan over Headley I don't care, still playing Headley who switch hits so the oppo still stands.... Tex has a vag, that's whats wrong with him.....guy is a gamer!!!
I believe Cashman said yesterday he expects Eovaldi to miss the rest of the regular season and didn't sound optimistic about the playoffs. He got a plasma injection yesterday and won't even pick up a baseball for 2 weeks.
He actually fouled the ball off his knee/upper tibia. So painful, I did it once, couldn't walk for two weeks. But, tex does need some vagisil. Also, **** you Stephen drew, that is all.
Washington? Washington? That you in our rearview mirror? Why yes, it is. Now we have the next 7 vs the Braves and Marlins. Can we for once beat up the terrible teams?
Evo is done for the year, I wouldn't expect him back... MRI had inflammation, no tear, they lucked out and no need to push it....
Let me try that again....Can the Mets for once beat up on terrible teams in their division besides the Phillies? Atlanta and the Marlins always give the Mets fits.
Cubs have gotten to the point where if they go 8-14 the rest of the way to get to 90 wins, the Giants would have to go 18-4 to catch them for the second WC. Feeling pretty confidant. With more than half of our games remaining against the Cruds and Pirates, still a chance at the division too.
Would love to see either the Cubs or Pirates knock the Cardinals into the WC game. They are both fun teams. AL getting interesting with the Rangers overtaking the Astros and the Jays still going crazy.
After taking the first two from St Louis, we (the Cubs) are only a half game back of Pittsburgh, who faces LA tonight. Would be awesome to catch the Cruds! At a minimum, we're playing for home field in the WC game now. Magic number down to 6, and it would take an epic collapse along with the Giants winning out for Chicago not to make it now.
Thank you Sox for making this week interesting as I want to stab myself after watching Miami yesterday. I wonder what the season series between the Sox and Blue Jay is? Sox seem to play them very well...
It's kind of frustrating because you're rooting for the Sox to play well but also lose so they can get the best draft pick possible. Right now I think they have the 12th worst record so if they go after FA with a QO attached they first their first pick. Sox since the trade deadline have actually been playing really good baseball, minus the pen. The young guys are starting to live up to their expectations, the SPing has been much better. Makes 2016 seem promising if they can get another SPer or 2 and add pen arms.
Watching the Cubs play for the best draft pick in 2010-2013 hurt, but it was the right strategy and is paying off dividends now too. Same for Houston. Does that approach fly in Boston, though?
I think the smart fans realize if you don't make the playoffs it doesn't matter if you finish 2nd or last in the division so if you're going to miss the playoffs anyway might as well put yourself in a better position for future was a better pick.
He had a great life, what a run both with the military, MLB, family....... hopefully in some way he saw the game last night and it left positive memories before he went to heaven...
Yogi was certainly a character. and probably a little underrated when talking about Yankee greats/legends. RIP.
True Legend! RIP indeed! You know from prior conversations he was/is in my Top 5 Yankees of all time. 1) Ruth (my #1 RF (MLB) all-time) 2) Gehrig (my #1 1B (MLB) all-time) 3) Berra (my #1 Catcher (MLB) all-time) 4) Mantle 5) DiMaggio
Down to 3> would like to get this over as soon as possible and give some guys a day off here and there. Plus set up your pitchers and bullpen
Cubs lost to Pittsburgh, but clinched last night as SF has fallen apart. Not the most fun way to get into the playoffs, but I'll take it! First time since 2008. 89 wins so far, with a chance for this to still be one of the best seasons that the team has had since WW2. Not bad for a transition year.
Harvey takes the hill and the Mets have a chance to clinch. Its a long time coming since 2006. Luckily for the Mets, Scott Boras has allowed Harvey to go a whole 4 innings today. I dont know what we'd ever do without Bor-***.
Good thing the Mets aren't a complete mess like the Phins. 9 Years is a long time coming... They have definitely been a different team with Cespedes in the line up. I do worry about a match up with any of the teams from NL Central though.
St Louis we did ok with...Pittsburgh and the cubs we were a complete abortion against. Just do it over. Gotta beat LAD first and secure home field vs them. I don't want to be facing Kershaw and Greinke at sundown...you can't even hit those two when you can see the ball.
