Also, too much sugar on the gaps. Everyone knows sugar causes cavities. Cavities are holes. Runningbacks can exploit these holes. Sugar is a bad idea KEVIN COYLE!!!!!!!

There were safeties at the LOS most of the game and they usually did not blitz. If anything Coyle could have not put safeties in the box at all. But the pass rush wasn't doing much of anything. I totally get the second guessing bit that's all it is. Second guessing. I've yet to see a credible explanation for how by play call alone Coyle could have made the game better. Mostly what I see is the players on the field not getting the job done.

Several time Brice was in position and didn't make the play. He had a PI on the far side of the field but the camera angle was terrible.

Officials seemed pretty flag happy, especially the guy in the secondary. There were refs right by the play, not flag, and here comes a flag flying in from a guy literally not even in the picture. Eagle eyes I guess.

Total heart breaker though yesterday. Total bummer.

Its like the Dolphins are this awesome great team, who cant lose w/o there being some extreme level of incompetence from the top of the organization on down. And also the team that goes 8-8 every year. I cant do anything but laugh at the logic.

It really says something when fans aren't even trying to blame the refs for key plays after a loss (and there would be grounds to do so: that FG at the end of the half was placed 2 yards too close.. enough for the FG to just barely be made). Goes to show how much this loss shattered expectations..

I mentioned before that PI flags were flying in from off the screen. The refs right on the play never even reached for their flag.

This game is so typical for our garbage franchise. We have played 2 of the worst teams in the league who both looked better than us. I would give us no more than a 5% chance of the making the playoffs. The jets bills and pats are all WAY better than us. I'm actually kind of happy because although I had high expectations for the season at least we finally can get rid of our mentally ******ed flaccid ***** looking clown of a head coach and his equally incompetent staff. I don't think Philbin could even coach pee wee football successfully. I hope never gets another job and spent all his money and ends up living in a trailer park. I hate him with all of my heart

Redskins beat the hell out of the Rams who defeated the Seahawks.

I thought the Redskins were going to be a bad team. I was very wrong. They are looking very solid.

Do you pay $114MM for a slanting, 1-technique NT or a disruptive 3-technique? Kevin Colye has made his intent pretty well known. That right there is one of the main causes for the poor performance of the defense. It'll continue as such so long as Kevin Coyle is in charge of the defense. Just look at the regression since 2011 ended and Coyle arrived in 2012.

hard to run the ball when the defense does not respect nor has any fear in a deep passing game.

Didn't seem to be a problem last year did it? on the list of why we are not running the ball well at all...deep passing game is way behind poor blocking. poor play calling and total lack of execution. Way, way behind.

As a team, you want to go into a game with a commitment to run. Sadly, Lazor or Philbin rarely commit to it. It could also be that this line is as bad run blocking as it is at pass pro. Two weeks in a row, Miller had less than 5 carries in the 1st half.. Unacceptable

I'm always stunned by Miller's stats last year because he doesn't, to my eyes, break tackles very well nor does he have particularly good vision. Blocking was poor but there were a couple of plays at least that he chose the wrong hole. Now, if he can make a single cut and get a crease I love watching him go because he can really cover some ground. Still something about him that makes me think of Roger Craig when he runs.

every game is different, I dont think you have to have this mentality, I think its important to be balanced so you can do either one more if you need to, IE play different styles according to your matchups that week..

I agree DJ but ... Even against teams that don't play the run well, we don't establish it. It's almost an after thought

its either that or we just cant physically run the football on anyone at this point..so instead of trying to establish something for the sake of balance, if you know the defense is stout then screw the run game, spead'em out and let ryan and the receivers win the game..

Then you don't "physically" run the ball. You do it with traps, chops, counters, and other more "finesse" strategies.

What you don't do is abandon an entire element of the game and put the offense entirely on your quarterback's shoulders, when he's never demonstrated the ability to handle that load successfully.

I hope these coaches know their own personnel. That didn't seem to be the case Sunday.

That philosophy hasn't panned out so well. A team has to be able to run the ball "occasionally " on 3 rd and short. We can't .. I agree with we can't run the ball but we have to make it at least functional

For me the answer is you don't pay 114 million for any DT. I'm against paying that much for TWO DTs, paying it to one guy should be out of the question.

I do agree that Suh is better suited as a 3 tech, but what about the defense as a whole, who's gonna play the 1 if not Suh? 97 is the only alternative size and strength wise but the coaches don't seem to think he's ready to be a starter. Another issue is that Suh will be doubled no matter where he lines up. And isn't part of the problem Wake being unable to play RE? Wake and Suh create unique problems when lined up next to each other but Cam simply isn't comfortable or effective on the right side, where most elite pass rushers make their money. The second issue is Wake being hurt. Watching him get pancaked by Marcedes Lewis confirmed it for me. Wake isn't healthy.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Coyle is doing a great job or that he doesn't deserve critisicm. And I know you know your stuff, love reading your posts. But we disagree on this one.

What I saw on Sunday was a handful of bad plays, none of which had to do with coaching, in a sea of good plays. Grimes fails to make a play on the post corner post. McCain whiffs on a deep ball and takes a bad PI before the half. Aikens gets smoked on the dig-go. Vernon takes a horrible 15 yd penalty late. Outside of that handful of plays Jax didn't do much of anything on offense.

If you saw differently please share.

It's a two sided coin. On one side Tannehill showed he can carry the offense simply with his arm, we haven't seen that since 13. Without drops, penalties and missed FGs the offense puts up 26-30 points without any semblance of a run game.

The flip side is that Jax doesn't have a good D. Nowhere near what Miami will face in the division this year. And when the run game isn't clicking in Lazor's system, it erases at least half of the rest of the offense. Play action, bootlegs, quick screens, so much of what this offense does well is predicated on having at least the threat of the run available.

take into account im not Pate or Ro talkin here, but just the lack of a moving pocket and read option makes me ill...this isnt the pats when they sometimes pass for 50 times, and sometimes run for 50 times pending the oppnonet, they dont believe in balance for the sake of it, they have no ego, they just attack weakness, over, and over..im not seeing it, or understanding their strategy, one or the other.

There's no bootleg game bc there's no run game, a run game with the QB under center specifically. Quick screens are designed to get a few yards here and there. They may be overrated in general but for the Dolphins it's important to stay on schedule without exposing Miller or Tannehill to too many hits. Quick screens are a good option, if the run game is clicking. Inside zone is vital to the offense as a whole, gotta get it working again.

Most likely 2012. This is the game where Hartline went off for like 250.

EDIT: Before that 2012 game (easily forgotten), it was 1999. Wow. That's a long time for dual threats.

Let's see what this staff has in store for the season. I'll patiently wait. Let some players get their reps. Let the coaches make the adjustments.

    (Here are my thoughts):

    - Offensive line is still an issue. The run game ran efficiently last year with Satele at center. The holes were there to hit hard and, at times, damn impressive. Almost like a Mike Shanahan line. We are missing that this year. I am not sure these interior guys are made for this type of game. With no run threat, I do not see Tannehill being near as efficient because the defenses (good or bad) will peel back their ears. The pass blocking is somewhat acceptable at times. But they MUST fix this run game to become more productive.

    - Because of the lack of balance, Tannehill did not get a fair shot at a comeback. With that said, franchise QBs will that win by rallying the troops. Sometimes I wonder about Tannehill's ability to do that. Do these players really believe in him?

    - Consistency on defense. There is something to work with, much like the offense. BUT WHERE IS THE DISRUPTION AND PENETRATION?? It seems like they are not quite in sync with one another. The defense is not playing like a unit. They're just a bit off. It's okay, because the talent is there in good spots. Yes, Aikens got burned. He bit. It happens with young players. What other choice do we have? I do have faith in Coyle to get this secondary in check. D-line? I'll hold my judgement, because with that talent, it should be easy. I think if/once the line gets everything in order, the linebackers will respond. I know some of you will disagree, but if Sheppard can get in the right spots, I think he could be solid. I'm over Misi. I like Jenkins.

    - Lovin' Franks and the punter. Sorry punter. Forgot your name!

    - We now see how valuable Dion Sims is to this offense and the run game.

    - Tannehill sucks on the deep rollout throw to the right. I only counted one throwaway.

    - I still think Tannehill lacks in the 'anticipation throws' dept. with regularity. Saw too many batted balls. Both he and the O-line need to fix that. He does look razor sharp in the middle part of the field 'not' a crossing route.

    - Sometimes, I felt that the play-calling on offense lacked color. It was either black or white. But I do always wonder, and I have seen this with Philbin, is that he saves the best for good teams. My problem is, why can't they just do it ALL OF THE TIME? Todd Haley does it. Yes, their talent is there at the position players, but their O-line is not that great. They get the defenses off-balanced, and it opens up all kinds of possibilities. I truly believe Miami has the ability to do that. Tannehill is no Ben or Luck in his ability to extend plays, but sometimes, it looks like he is a college QB in a college offense (if that makes any sense).

In all, I think this team can pull it together. They do seem to be lacking an identity right now. I hope they find one damned soon.
