ESPN breaking news. Dolphins give coach Philbin a 3 year extension.

It cracks me up that people actually think that firing Philbin during the season will magically solve the Dolphins problems.

Honestly I dont think it matters because our OC and DC are Moe and Larry.

If they got promoted I highly doubt it makes the team better this year.

That said, the sooner I don't have to look at Philbum in a Dolphins shirt the better.

Cracks me up that some people still don't think the problem is Philbin.

yes and no, yes he is the right guy, and no if hes not in it for the right reasons...

I mean this great coach cant simply spend the rest of his life behind a desk not doing what he was born to do, i mean if he does stick to tv he really does have some issues..

I would always ask cowher first because his style is what this town needs...chin and all..

Cowher is exactly what we need. But I'd be reluctant to part with Tannenbaum/Hickey if that was his demand. I think that pair is doing well (hey.. one bright spot today: Parker! He's no bust for sure.)

Another potential bright spot: Tannenbaum seems like just the type of guy to want to fire Philbin before the season is over. Obviously Ross has to approve. But I like our GM.

He just looks very fluid..nice hands catch, a crisp route, good body position. The kid looks absolutely natural out there.

Don't forget Matthews . If there's not enough indictments of Philbin already, that he couldn't get that guy on the field before now is a good enough reason to fire that bean pole limp duck goof.

Remember when he benched Reggie Bush against the Titans due to an early fumble, when at that time Bush was clearly our best offensive weapon? Good times....

He knew BEFORE, why do you think we are the only team that he didn't visit, and our owner had to BEG Manning for a meeting. Trust me, he knew WELL ahead of time what a disaster Ross & Philbin are.

There's got to be a good coach out there that looks at this team, and for pity's sake alone would want to step in and salvage the talent on this team. What a disservice Ross and Philbin (and how many coaches?) have done to the talented players that have played here in Miami over the years. We need someone with fire and energy. I'm not sure any of the "retired" winning coaches would be the answer. Someone young, cocky, and ready to culture our players into having that spark might be the answer. Or maybe Marino? Don't you just want to step in there and start leading this team? Someone? Somewhere have the guts to step in and turn this thing around? Gaaaaaah!

I don't think anyone believes that, but it would wake some of the more smug players on the team, that they might be next.

After a day like yesterday.....home opener in renovated stadium, Warren Buffett there (to hopefully look over the team as an investment), and all that represents, and you go out an lay an egg like that ? Dude, you need to can him ASAP.

I honestly dont think it will make a difference whether we fire him now or in January, but it sure will make me feel better instantly knowing he is gone.

It also allows Ross time to grab interest from other potential coaches. Though the coach I want wont be available until the end of the season as well IF he is fired (Sean Payton), with the way the saints are playing lately it might just happen.

Biggest issue really is every single week it looks like men vs boys. we look like little boys out there going up against tough, physical teams that know they can punk our weak asses and we won't do anything but bend over and take it. Woudn't surprise me if part of joe's pregame ritual he makes guys lube up. thanks joe, thanks for wasting the last 4 years. And thank you steve, if it wasn't for your misplaced loyalty, we wouldn't be the laughing stock we currently are.

to have hope, there needs to be something to be hopeful about. tanny brings hope, but when you consider he is handicapped by coaching and that oline, that hope turns into reality which turns into depression.

the talent on the dline could bring hope, if the coaching staff knew how to properly utilize said talent. Stop trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

I don't think it will magically solve anything. But it sure as hell WILL make a difference.

it can't get any more negative than it is now.

A new guy in charge might be able to get SOME kind of fire from this team

    Look up the work culture.

Right now, we do not have a winning culture and the sooner we get a head coach that knows what the f he is doing, you will see results instantly. It might not mean wins, but it will mean guys giving 100% every play. Guys showing emotion. Guys having situational awareness. When you foster an environment where mediocrity is acceptable, it's detrimental to the growth of these players.

2 years too long just like with Ireland, and Sparano. Ross seems to be perpetually behind the curve on this stuff.

Joe Philbin was a fantastic offensive coordinator in Green Bay. Under his tenure, the Packers had one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL.

Buddy Ryan was a fantastic defensive coordinator in Chicago and Houston. Under his tenure, the Bears and the Oilers had one of the most prolific defenses in the NFL

As a head coach however, Buddy Ryan sucked to the highest level of sucktivity.

It looks as if Joe Philbin is the offensive version of Buddy Ryan
