A few things that stand out from Pro Football Focus' analysis of the Dolphins-Bills debacle and a couple other items: ### PFF gave an unspeakably bad grade to right guard Jamil Douglas (a minus 8.9). Can't remember seeing a grade that poor for an individual performance in a Dolphins game. He allowed six QB hurries and two hits. And PFF says his run blocking was even worse. The other guard, Dallas Thomas, was given a minus 2.9 and allowed three hurries. The Dolphins' guard play has been consistently substandard through three games. What else is new? ### The gruesome numbers on the Dolphins pass defense: As poor as the defensive backs were, the linebackers were also atrocious in coverage. Kelvin Sheppard allowed the one pass thrown against him to be caught for 24 yards. Koa Misi, beaten by Charles Clay, allowed 3 of 4 to be caught for 53 yards.... Among cornerbacks, Brice McCain allowed 6 of 10 to be caught for 100 yards, Jamar Taylor 3 of 4 for 49 yards (that includes the Chris Hogan TD where Walt Aikens was out of position), Brent Grimes 3 of 3 for 14 yards and Zack Bowman 1 for 1 for 12 yards. PFF graded Brice McCain and Olivier Vernon worst among defensive players. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...de-chalmers-and-many-issues-on-media-day.html
Brice McCain had an atrocious game. Taylor's rating is skewed because he was expecting help over the top on the Hogan touchdown.. From Aiken's who was clearly on a different page.
I agree.. with Suh getting double-teamed (or triple-teamed), it should have freed up others to make plays by now. It's good to know OV isn't worth a huge contract before he hits FA next year (not that I thought any differently before, but at least there's more evidence now).
Really. How is it possible for Suh to be consistently double and triple teamed and NOT ONE of the other guys on the D Line can make a play? Did Wake all of a sudden become a bum in the off season? I dont think so. What about Vernon - in a contract season he all of a sudden has turned into a guy who cant remember how to play football. Holy bad timing. I dont believe any of that. We are plain and simple getting out coached on both sides of the ball.
or Suh and the rest of the defense want coyle out..theres some opinions out there that say Suh is not happy with how hes being used, i would believe those now..I think the players want him gone and this is their way of protesting.
I remember the players revolting last year against Coyle. He says he is simplifying his defense some more. F that. His defense obviously stinks and they to chuck him and it. Face the facts, that unit has gotten WORSE every year he has been in Miami. HE should have been fired at the end of last season.
I think we may of hit the nail on the head..I know we thought that last year a bit, but now its seems clear with Suh's play.
It is obvious that was what Taylor expected, but on Dolphins 5th quarter, Sam Madison said that was cover 3 and Taylor should not have left his man. I'm not sure what to believe, it did look like there was a LB underneath on that side, perhaps Taylor was supposed to cover his deep 3rd of the field. I will say I like Taylor much more than McCain, Taylor at least is physical and looked good last year imo.
Eh. I was the guy trying to tell people Vernons double digit sacks were a shame. Majority of them were coverage sacks. Not impressive ones. He's never shown anything but sub-par for me, and yes that is possible with double digit sacks.
At least with Douglas, he get's a free pass being a 4th drafted rookie. Dallas Thomas in his 3rd year as player who has gotten meaningful playing time, he's just as bad as the day he first made an appearance. What in the world is this staff seeing to even keep him on the roster? He's a guy that should be the 2nd option off the bench at G.
This story sounds familiar ...... the one about a high profile free agent we bring in and refuse to use him correctly.
We're as bad on defense as I can ever remember. Jason allen, Reggie howard, Jamar fletcher, these guys looked like locked down CBs over mccain. Aikens giving up big plays left and right and his position requirement is almost literally "don't give up the big play". ....****
Have they given any explanation as to why? I thought he had flashed a few times, so I was surprised. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised considering some of their decisions on who to play/start on D.
I'm guessing you're referring to Philbin, but thinking about it, this could just as easily be directed at Ross
Or the one where we insist 250 lb linebackers gain 50 pounts to be defense ends and they scratch their heads trying to figure out why these guys aren't explosive anymore.
At the risk of stating the obvious, we're not getting nearly enough pressure on the opposing QB. We have one lousy sack in three games. Wasn't our Dline supposed to be a strength?
remember when everyone was circle jerking over here because supposedly the Panthers asked us to dial down our pass rush in practice lol.. I'm going to say that was complete BS..
One must consider the possibility that OV stood for "overrated" and Cam Wake is getting a little long in the tooth. Doesn't help that it's Coyle's scheme though.
Word is they're going to convert Jordan Phillips to a Middle Linebacker, Coyle seems to think he'll have more value there so it's going to take some time before we see Phillips. Look for him to be the starter at MLB by 2018 thought...Can't wait....Meanwhile Tony Lippet switching to QB looks promising as well.
