If the jets win you would think there is no way philbin and the coaching staff would survive. Even though the owner seems to have a love affair with the coach there is no way he can justify keeping him after that. Also, lets face it our play off chances are slim at best. Loosing gets us a better draft pick and the way opposing below average qbs have been having career days against us gives me zero confidence when we start facing the better teams. This season is going to be brutal. Of course its the jets. I dont know if i can bring myself to cheer for them
I'm not sure any Fin fan could really convince himself to root against the team late in the 4th quarter of a close game but I think there are a lot of folks who won't really care much if they lose for all the reasons you said. I think most of us have recognized that there is value is being really, really good and even a little value in being really, really bad. However, there is almost nothing to gain from being mediocre.
This season feels like a win/win. For example if we lose this game, Philbin could be fired going into the bye. If we miss out on the playoffs, Philbin also almost certainly gets the ax. And if we make the playoffs, if this team can get and stay healthy I still believe we can f**** with anyone in this league based on talent alone; and in the playoffs, it truly is a brand new season.
Can we just win this one please? Some of us have waited for this Sunday since the tickets came out in January. I plan to have a fine day in the London sunshine & I'm sure we can still get a decent draft pick at 2-14
I don't think beating the Jets puts our eventual mediocrity and eventual firing of Joe in jeopardy. We'll have plenty of opportunity to demonstrate our inability to put a consistently prepared team on the field.
If it was CERTAIN that Philbin would be fired with a Jets win, then for the good of the future of this team I would hope we lose. But with Ross as the owner, I don't think he will fire Philbin mid-season while I do think he'll fire him with another 8-8 season (not sure about 9-7). So I'll root for the Dolphins to win. Besides, the Jets being the opponent makes it 10x as hard to even consider rooting against the team for future benefit.
we don't need the Jets to win, Philbin stays if we lose this Sunday.. we don't need anything from anyone honestly... it'll come on his own.. I think the Dolphins win this Sunday, Philbin is the master of mediocrity and he will keep his .500 pace in tact. I like the Jets' defense but I'm not completely sold on it yet. Predicting a low scoring game with lots of turnovers from both sides, but we win by 3 points.
The "Suck for Luck" and other such mentalities don't work for me, sorry. I hope we beat 'em 42-0. Realistic? I'm not that blind...but I'd love it if it happened. Besides, as others have said, I don't see Ross dropping Joe even after a beatdown handed to us by the Stej, unless Philbin asks to be released...and he's to sure of himself to do that.
I want Philbin gone. In fact I have wanted him gone for over a year. Yet as Dolphin fan and a Jets hater, there is no way I would pull for the Jets to win this week , just so Philbin would get fired sooner. Philbin has the rest of the season to prove to Ross that he deserves to get fired. I have no doubt this will be the one thing Philbin will be a success at in 2015. As far as the rest of this season is concerned. If the Dolphins go 3-13 and two of those wins are over the Jets, at least there will be some joy in another wasted season for me.
If we come out with 0 intensity like last week you won't have to worry about what we need. Week 4 in Football hell.
Anyone who uses the words "Jets" and "win" in the same sentence needs a Tony Sparano fist pump to their family jewels. Not only would I ever consider rooting against the Dolphins, but I'm sure as heck not rooting for the Jets under any circumstance.
I think the question we should be asking ourselves is: Say we stomp a mud hole into the Jets. Do we want Philbin to coach another week until the next big loss? Do we still remain bloodthirsty for his job after a win? I ask this as a staunch supporter, turned huge detractor of Joe Philbin. Sent from my SM-G360T1 using Tapatalk
We need the coaches bus to get lost on its way to Wembley. We might have a chance if that we're to happen. Alas though, it won't happen.
Wanting to see the Jets suffer, and getting another head coach, are two separate but non exclusive fantasies. I doubt Philbin will be fired before the season is over. It aint over yet. Its week 4.
This. Ross isn't getting rid of him before Jan 4th. Not happening. So hold on and see what happens. But I'm with most, no way in hell I ever root for the Jets. For any reason.
Can I root for the Jets? Nope. Do I believe that Philbin will make the moves needed and turn this team around? Nope. I think the Jets DL will destroy the OL, and Coyle will have no answers on defense for a very average Jets offense. That said, I think Joe is not fired until early December, despite a losing record.
