In some ways the issues are the same, not so much in others. In 2014 the defense was among the best in the league for 9-10 games. This year they are average, at best. The offense was still adjusting to Lazor's system. Now they're handicapped by a couple injuries and bad execution.

As for Philbin, let's not kid ourselves. If the team starts playimg better and winning games I doubt it'll be bc of anything the HC as done. This ain't Hollywood, there are no magic speeches that suddenly inspire guys to play better. If the struggles continue then Philbin will be fired, whether it's his fault or not.

theres no logical reason for that many players to be playing poorly on their own accord, so you have a personnel problem, but your gonna hold out hope for that personnel to improve on their own accord.

Wake, Vernon, Parker, Sims, Albert, are slowed by injury. Where I agree is at LB, OG, CB and safety. Not a whole lot to be done at those spots.

On the bright side, a few of the "tough" games on the schedule don't look so tough anymore. The Dolphins aren't the only team facing serious issues.

The defense was not as good as people said last year, if you looked past stats. Third downs and fourth quarters, man, I beat that drum all season.

The oline has been terrible for three seasons, and is bad this year. That alone is cause to fire Philbin.

The worst part is that Philbin was supposed to specialize in the OL.

    Pitiful.

    and stuff like this..

so in your opinion they are blaming the coaches for their own futility, and yet you are not a philbin and staff supporter.

I disagree completely. The offense is 8th in the league passing the ball. A good QB can compensate for weak blocking. The reason to fire Philbin is keeping Coyle. The defense has gotten worse every year since his arrival.

I agree on the idea that with 13 games to be played the season is not decided. I totally think things could turn around although I doubt they will. Last week against the Bills was as bad as I've seen this team look since 2007. They were inept and I don't think we saw 100% effort. I won't say anyone mailed it in but this team lacks the kind of energy and fly-to-the-ball kind of gang tackling you see from units who are excited and energized.

I agree 100% on what you said about Lazor. He's in a bind, no doubt about it.

I also totally agree that this defense was mis-judged. You don't have to call yourself out PH, it was everyone that thought this was going to go just as you described. The D-line was supposed to do way more than it's doing now. I thought we'd see OV bring relatively consistent pressure. I thought we'd see Wake as a dominant player. I thought Mitchell and Suh would push the pocket. None of that has even flashed for a second which is weird.

I'm not going to beat around the bush about it anymore though, this defense needs to be rebuilt. This is not the first time I've said it and it won't be the last time. Outside of Suh, Mitchell, Phillips, Jenkins and Jones, this defense is a waste. The rest of the players are either not very good (Misi, Aikens, Taylor) not playing up to their potential (McCain, Vernon) or just getting old (Wake, Grimes). This defensive units need young talent at DE, MLB, FS, and CB. That might as well be called a re-build if you ask me. With Suh, Jones and Jenkins there may at least be something to re-build around.

This is why I'd like to see us go after a defensive-minded head coaching candidate such as Vic Fangio. To me, Tannehill, Landry, Pouncey and the rest of the offense will continue to produce regardless of scheme. Right now, this team needs to focus on re-shaping it's defense with young talent and a fresh staff.

I don't play the media game. Hardly any of them know jack ish about football. What they are good as is drumming up headlines. So I don't put much thought into what Cole, Salguero, Kelly, or any of them have to say and I'd say the same thing if the media was playing a Symphony on how good a job the coaching staff was doing.

Not sure if you've had a chance to really study these first three games but I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'd take your word over any of these lame brained reporters.

You disagreed that the oline is terrible going on 4 years, and that isn't on Philbin? It directly impacts the run game, and stifles the passing attack.

Can't disagree with you at all. But man, I waited 8 looooong months for football season, I just wanna watch and enjoy the games right now. If it gets to 1-4, 2-7, something like that then I'll start looking at possible replacements. Right now my focus is on how to beat the Jets.

Man, I agree. I want nothing more than for the Dolphins to win. I just see nothing from this staff to encourage me that they can make us great.

I think more people need to talk about how horrible Mike Tannenbaum's offseason was.

There are a lot of teams with a weak OL. Denver might have the worst OL in the league. They are 3-0.

You can't possibly judge an offseason through 3 games.

The issues that doomed us last season, are worse this season.

They're BOTH bad, yes, but Denver is better at pass blocking. Still, the OL isn't the ONLY problem...just arguably the most glaring. And Denver is sporting the #1 Defense in yards allowed and #3 in scoring at the moment...kinda helps.

You forgot to add when your QB has a completion % of 47.4 in the 1st Quarter with 0 tds
and an average of 4.9 yards per reception you're going to have problems.

If you have a completion % of 51.1% with 1 td and an average of 4.9 yards per reception
in the 4th Quarter you're going to have even more problems

That's true. Good thing we can afford to get rid of most of them in the near future because they're so useless. :O

Just more evidence of how truly shameful we are. Professionals 'giving up'
