Meh.. there were plenty of other opportunities. Parker can be a playmaker, but Philbin refuses to play him. Hell, they benched him today after a pretty questionable OPI call, then decided to line up Jordan Cameron on the outside at WR instead of parker. That's got nothing to do with Tannenbaum. there's all kinds of things you can do to minimize the blitz, and minimize the effects of a bad OL. We just chose not to do any of them. How many times today were we in an obvious passing situation, when we knew they'd blitz, and we did nothing to provide extra protection? I can't give you an exact number, but I can tell you, alot. That's inexcusable from a coaching, playcalling, gameplanning standpoint. The Jets have blitzed, and created turnovers off of it all year. You should have built in plays, to gameplan against it. To neutralize it. Not just drop Tannehill back on 5 step drops in the same spot every plan and let the blitzers tee off on him because there's not enough guys up front to block. I'm not even talking talent, im talking pure numbers. It's a flawed scheme and gameplan right from the start. If you dont want to leave more guys in for protection, then move the pocket, and move the QB to create more time
Yeah, you are probably right, but why don't teams roll out every play? Because it's cutting down half the field and making it harder for your QB to throw. You do it because you have no option. And we have no option.
i agree. there are three things you can do to minimize a porous offensive line.....1) max protect. 2) short passes. try to get the ball out in 2 seconds 3) move the pocket. apparently we dont want to max protect or move the pocket and even our short passes arent designed to be out in two seconds..more like four. but getting back to tannenbaum. you dont win in this league unless you can control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. i'll give him a pass on the defensive line because on paper it looked like it would work. on the offensive side however everyone knew our oline sucked. it sucked going into the offseason, continued to suck through free agency, kept sucking through the draft and sucked its way through preseason. and yet nothing was done about it. you dont win with the worst offensive line in the nfl
Oh well, losing becomes easier from here on out. I hate it, but we are terrible. We know what the negatives are, here are the positives I came away with. -Tannehill, I know towards the end he threw the picks, but he's done everything he can. He literally has no time. When he did have a clean pocket, he showed why he's a franchise QB. Landry- what more can he do, kid is warrior for sure, love him. Suh- Showed some leadership today, and played with some heart. It's progress at least. Still hoping he proves his worth. Stills- we finally got him involved, meanwhile Matthews vanished. We keep either one or the other after this season. That's about it homiez.
That's what's called "The Adjustment". He's not the problem per se, but he's also not the guy elevating that offense. What bothers me the most is our insistence on dropping him back to pass 35+ times a game.
Not sure , haven't checked but plays like that are counted as sacks , so it should be listed at some point as a sack .
Buffalo looks terrible at home, we got blown out by them in Miami, we're terrible. So bad. Sooooooooo bad.
As I stated earlier in the thread, this is the worst Miami team I've seen. I never saw the expansion season, but as far as im concerned this is the worst Dolphins team in history.
Chris Ivory went off for 166. Teams don't need to pass when they can run for massive yards on your defense.
how does a D line with wake, suh, mitchell, vernon, fede, philips with misi and jenkins perform so terrible against the run. This dropoff is how guys are performing is startling. It's hard to evaluate without coaches putting these guys in a position to succeed and playing to their strengths.
what unit has perfromed very well, special teams, give him the bone..promote dan cambell to o coodinator.
We were better at LB last season when Misi was at MLB. This season, Misi is at SLB and he's getting roasted weekly as he's not fast, can't tackle in pursuit, and rarely has a pass defense. He actually had a PD today, but it should have been an INT. Also OV sucks. Can't set the edge and he was terrible today against the run. Dunno what's up with Wake. He had opps today for sacks and either whiffed or just didn't get there. Could be the combo of age and injuries, but he also looks heavier, which means slower. Agree though that the drop-off in performance overall is dramatic, but it's combination of age, injuries, lack of depth, and poor coaching decisions.
There are plenty of teams with just as poor talent on the OL, or worse. The coaching staff refuses to do anything that will help the OL. If they aren't going to keep extra blockers in, they may as well start using wider splits at this point. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
The thing that stood out to me is Lazor was continually calling empty backfield sets when the Jets could get pressure only rushing 4. Just makes no sense.
4 man rush causing quick pressure was an issue last year as well. It's one reason I can't fault Tannehill a whole lot. 4 rushers means 7 guys in coverage. With like 4 receiving options, you do the math.
IMO, Philbin and Lazor are "forcing" Tannehill to overcome the blocking and make something happen. After years of this, if Tannehill ever gets average blocking, he should be able to light the league on fire - if he lasts that long...
i want him to run read option and run on his own unscripted...that gives us the best chance to win..we have data to prove....your way show gross futility.
