At the end of another day that couldn't end quickly enough, Dolphins owner Steve Ross left the quiet of another losers locker room and said to a member of his suited entourage, "Well, it can't get worse than that." He then walked out dejectedly of Wembley Stadium, pausing only to say, no, he didn't want to take questions about his looming decisions. And that's fine. Words are empty now anyhow. It's nine months past time for action by Ross, really, but Sunday's 27-14 loss offered an international platform for all the fundamental reasons Joe Philbin is a nice man and not much of a NFL head coach. Limited offense. Poor defense. Costly penalties. No answers. And to the larger point about Ross' gallows humor, it can get worse. Much worse. The season's playoff goal is gone, the easiest scheduling stretch is over, there are 12 games to go and by Philbin's admission the players' effort isn't there. NFL teams take on the personality of their coach, and the Dolphins' personality is of an unemotional team that doesn't have enough answers. Would a direct talker like tight ends coach Dan Campbell work as interim head coach? Could a new voice help avert a bad season becoming infinitely worse? http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...olphins-jets-column-1005-20151004-column.html
Ian Rappaport saying Josh McDaniels... I'd like that edit: OC can't leave mid season, must mean next year.
I dont want any patriot coaches on this team. They all are terrible when they leave the cheating zone
It should be painfully obvious by now that New England doesn't dominate based on Belichick delegating to the best and brightest talent he can find. I mean in that case why even wait Charlie Weiss isn't doing anything.
We will probably end up with someone from a bad team like the Browns running backs coach or something as HC.
If Rizzi is promoted to interim HC as has been speculated, I just question how the other coaches are going to respond to this move. Especially the OC and DC. While I could personally not give a damn if it hurts their feelings. I just wonder how effective any of the coaches will be once they understand that they will all be looking for a job when the season is over. They have all done a lousy job under Philbin, with the exception of Rizzi. So I wouldn't be surprised to see them just try to get through the season while hoping they can land another job next year. A change is definitely needed and Rizzi is certainly as good an option as there is on this very weak coaching staff. The advantage to firing Philbin so early in the season is that it will give the FO time to evaluate all the best head coaching candidates so they can be prepared to go after the top candidate as soon as this season is over.
I am sure the OC and DC will welcome the change. I can't imagine that they like being in the situation that they are in right now.
