About the time that the national news was breaking that Philbin was going to be fired?

That's what Boomer said, but I haven't seen a followup with the confirmation.

Dolphins are definitely going to win the next two games with a new coach, building a little hope that they'll do what teams rarely do (make the playoffs with an interim - last one in the 1960s? Or maybe that's one who won a title), before being curb stomped by the Patriots...right? That just seems to be how it goes.

I don't care if Patriots beat us so long as Suh and Wake knock brady out. we're still ways to go from being at their level but Suh stomping on Brady's helmet would make my day.

I hardly think this is the time for former wrestling announcers. We need people with football acumen.

I would like to see Schwartz as our DC. Does he have a connection to Campbell?

Guys, I know this sounds crazy but I have it on good account that Mike Shula is the number one target for HC. I'm using a throw-away because this is still pretty fresh info, but this source also told me about culpepper over brees, signing Suh and about the locker room issues before they recently came out.
It seems like management likes his development so far with the Panthers and the thought of another Shula dynasty appeals over more years of mediocrity.

Todd Bowles' reaction: "That's a shame. Was looking forward to facing Joe twice a year. Good man."

Rex Ryan's reaction: "Boy Hidey, I tell ya what. I'm going to miss beating, er ah, I mean competing against Joe's squads."

Bill Bellichick's reaction: "<Grumble, gargle, mutter> Good coach. <unintelligible utterance>. Preparing for next week... <scowl>"

He may be too green as a coach still. ALA Jason Garrett when the cowboys hired him.

I'd take the next Jason Garrett over what we've had the past 8 years. Mike definitely isn't a finished product by any means, but he really impressed management after he interviewed post Alabama. They were reluctant then because it would have looked like we were trading Nick Saban for a recently fired Mike Shula. There is a feeling that there's enough distance now from that time and you won't find a guy that loves the Dolphins and Miami more than Mike.

Sorry, I am just not sold on Mike Shula as an NFL head coach. I think he is better suited for a head coaching job at the college level.
Hopefully things work out with this interim coaching change but if not, I think there will be much better options than Mike Shula as the next Dolphins head coach.

I agree with you in principle. Look around the league tho, it's full of retreads and unproven commodities from the bottom to the middle. Other than location, we are not a marquee destination. We have a lot of salary tied up in guys that haven't produced and a young quarterback who is NOT a sure bet at this point. The promise of working on getting a new stadium and a big hand in roster control could probably lure a bigger name but the apathy of Joe was awful and management wants a guy who loves Miami, loves the Dolphins and would make a dream come true by taking them to the next level.

All that sounds great, but I am not convinced Shula is capable of taking this team to the next level. Obviously Ross is the owner and can hire whomever he pleases, but I for one would be disappointed if the best they could do if Campbell doesn't pan out is Mike Shula.
Hopefully the team will show improvement over the next 12 games and Campbell will show that he is capable of being the long term solution at the head coaching position.

Agreed it should be civil but I'm not bothered about Philbin losing his very well paid job. I think the rest of his contract gets paid up as well, he earns more this year than most people will make in a lifetime. He's not exactly going to be worried about how to pay his mortgage next month.

In all seriousness though, Campbell comes off as a pro wrestler.

Jesus dude, you're not getting his point. Who cares if "ridicule comes with the territory"

You as a human has that control to not kick a man when he's down. The poster basically is saying what's wrong with people, is what has become of our society? When you think about it, is it imperative to kick a guy on the way out??? I don't think so.
Ok I get it, ridicule all you want while he's employed, but give the guy a break when he's let go. We all got what we wanted but good god, is it that much effort to show some humanity???
I guess some of us were just raised differently.

Think Philban feels bad for the clerk at the bank that gets fired for messing up his bank account?

This isn't the try hard league, this is the do good league or pack your bags. Sorry BRUH, don't feel sorry for this man one bit. He was paid millions for 4 years to terribly coach a football team. He will land on his feet with another job somewhere in the league. He will be just fine.

And where in my post did I say we should feel sorry for Joe Philbin????? I don't feel sorry for him.
I just don't see any reason to ridicule the guy or kick him on the way out. We got what we wanted, wish him luck and move on. Like I said earlier, we were probably just raised differently I guess.
A lot of machismo in this thread over a guy who lost his job. Or maybe just an age/maturity gap.

This isn't a normal guy losing his job. This is a guy getting demoted from making millions to 6 figures.

I do wish him luck. Think he's a great guy. But I will not hold my mouth, and nor should anyone, all the sudden because he was fired.

Yep. The guy made much more to be bad at a job than most of us are ever going to make being good at ours. Wish him the best as a person but I'm glad he's not the Dolphins coach anymore. I wish this move would have been made 9 months ago but so be it. At least there's enough time left in the season to not be a complete laughing stock.

Spare me the tears. Philbin's gonna be earning a nice salary for the next two years for the job of basically not running the team into the ground.

I guess you don't know how to read??? Tears? Now you're just trolling at this point. And earth to imeister, "running the team into the ground" I hardly think so. If you knew what's been going on the last few years you'd know our GMs ran the joint into the ground. Coaches can be fired in a NY minute. Players not so fast.

  39. wow just started reading the posts in this thread. im a little shocked at the way are some building him up as some pillar of high character. one of my biggest gripes was that he never took personal responsibility for any loss. not once has he ever appologized for letting us down. i dont wish the guy any ill will but he was far from a saint.

he was lucky enough to get an opprotunity of a lifetime and he failed. im sure he tried his best but he does not have what it takes.
