Interesting. Guess this foreshadows what will happen to Coyle soon. I would have liked to give Schwartz a go as the defensive coordinator especially since he had worked with Suh in Detroit. At least for this season. But that was a long shot. Schwartz wouldn't become the defensive coordinator without a true head coach in place. Schwartz says he will be "selective" when looking for future coaching jobs. Never the less this is good news to me. This means they really don't see Coyle as the future here in Miami and could be out the door real soon.

Another thing I would like to add. People say Schwartz work in Buffalo is overrated because of all the talent they have on that defense. They gave up 40 points to New England and had trouble stopping the Giants last week.

Probably why we haven't heard anything today regarding Coyle. I was widely reported that a decision on him would be made today. It is hard to find guys in the middle of the season. Surely we can't be stuck with him. It would be all for not.

Yeah at least we can be somewhat confident about the hiring process now. Wonder who made the call to go get him.

Coyle should just be gone regardless. His two gap scheme with the defensive linemen isn't helping. It isn't putting Suh in a position to dominate the game like he did in Detroit. The defensive line is nonexistent. The players aren't buying into his coaching and rightfully so. Many of them have expressed their displeasure in a player meeting. Coyle is terrible.

Agreed. I was just chatting about this last night with a buddy of mine. Suh is out of sorts, and our LBs aren't good enough to play a two-gap on the DL.

If they did contact him it was about the IHC job, there's no way he was reached out to for DC, there is no way you can install a D in 2 weeks, just cannot be done, and since he's not familiar with Coyle's terminology there's no way he can "take the reigns" of Coyle's D.

No one with any desire to have a solid resume is going to take that job. It's going to have to be a promotion from within.

I don't necessarily think that is true. I assume that they would ask the coach to learn the current terminology as opposed to half the team. Why else would they call him?
They are clearly looking for a DC

I think it's fairly clear they called him to see if he was interested in the IHC job, as the article says, they don't know in what capacity he was asked to come here, the IHC job makes sense, the DC job does not, he doesn't know this defense, how's he going to learn it in 2 weeks? It's impossible, because as the DC you have to know the D like the back of your hand, and you have to know it better than everyone else, and there's just no way for him to do that.

It is clear that they are looking outside for a DC. Someone is going to have to figure it out in 2 weeks.

It has been widely reported. It would not be the first time a coordinator was replaced during the season. It would not be the first time someone had to come in a nd pick up the pieces.

Who can we promote from within? How knowledgeable is Duffner? As bad as I want Coyle gone we almost have to stick with him....Unless Duffner is ready.

Duffner and Coyle are good ole buddies... Just like Phildone... they come from the same friends family tree...

One thing Joe did when he came here is that he hired friends and family members for high profile areas of his staff...

Your theory doesn't hold any weight. This story came out today. Campbell has already been named the interim head coach. And why would that not be the case with the interim head coach position? So you can get a new head coach but not a coordinator?

The other article I posted clearly says it was the defensive coordinator position. And you can look at many other sources talking about how it was the defensive coordinator position. And like I said your theory doesn't hold any weight. This story came out today. Interim head coach has already been named.

I'd love to see a list of outside coordinators that were brought in mid season, I've never heard of it.

The theory of bringing in an outside DC is what doesn't hold water, it makes no sense, you can't install a D midseason, this is just wishful thinking without any president, the only thing that may or may not happen is that someone gets promoted from within.

Well they offered him the position so obviously they think he can do it. Really all he has to do is get rid of the 2 gap defensive scheme Coyle is so stubbornly set on. Just needs to modify somethings. Doesn't have to revamp the whole system. At least not this year.

Duffner was the DC in Cincy for two seasons under Dick LeBeau in the early 2000s.
