I guess I'm rooting for the Mets/Dodgers series to go 5 games, so that the Cubs games will be on earlier in the day.

Somebody on Twitter suggest a Cano for Ellsbury trade straight up......

    Thoughts?

    Why would Seattle do that?

I mean I get why the question was asked since the Yankees need a 2B and Seattle could use a CFer but Cano is a much better player than Ellsbury and even in a down year for Cano it was still pretty good, especially if his 1st half struggles were truly because he was sick. Ellsbury's BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, and most importantly his SBs have decreased for the past 3 years. Cano also plays almost every game each year while out of Ellsbury's 9 year career he's played over 145 games 4 times. Plus like the "Fun With Numbers" post I did last year Ellsbury could have a major Carl Crawford like drop from his career, especially if he's actually lost his speed.

Because they get out of that contract and save around 85M dollars, a new GM, and I think they already know that contract is an albatross...

While I think both contracts are going to end badly, Cano should at least bring back from value in the next few years. With Ellsbury who really knows what he has left it could be a 5 year and $110,714285 blackhole with no value added. Plus Seattle would probably have to throw in money the Yankees way for them to take on Cano to help with the salary differences.

The best "fantasy trade" I've seen so far is Ellsbury, another player(s) for Melvin Upton, James Shields, Jedd Gyorko and cash to off set the contract. The Yankees would be getting rid of Ellsburys 110.7 million contract and getting Upton's 2 years 31.9 million, Shields, 4 for 65 million and Gyorko's 4 for 33 million (total of 129.9 million).

Right. While I am not disputing the player for player swap, Cano is clearly better, all I am saying is 90M is highly attractive savings to a team who bomb badly since acquiring him....Do they pull the plug on the experiment going forward?

As far as that other trade, ugh.....I don't particularly like any of those players, but the years relief might be worth it in the end....I would have to stew on it for a minute...I guess my question would be why would the Pads do it?

Cano hasn't been as good as he was when he was a Yankee but its not like he's been awful either.

Padres would be getting rid of 3 bad contracts and getting a much needed CFer out of it. Plus its the Padres, they were willing to take Kemp last off season.

Two days in a row Texas Rangers cashed, as massive underdogs too. Staying away from the next game.... I think estrada gets it done for the blue jays. But that bluejay bandwagon is falling apart fast

Man, I just have a feeling Wilmer is going to come up in a big spot as a PH and mash one. Theres just a feeling about him....Id have him playing over Murphy, inexperienced or not. Same with Conforto.

Hopefully tomorrow's ump in St. Louis isn't calling balls six inches off the plate strikes for the Cardinals all night like this guy. Its like when we used to face the Braves in the 90s all over again.

Murphy with a moonshot on kershaws fastball.. Kershaw trying to shake off his postseason reputation but that wont help..

13 k's for the Degrominator tonight through 7. Season high 120 pitches...I think it's the 2nd time all year a starting SP for NYM went past 115. He was on.

Wright with a 2 run single and a bomb by Murphy accounting for the 3 mets runs.

    Bottom 8....Let's go mets!!!

Degrom is the 2nd player ever to have a postseason debut with 13. The other is Tom Seaver. Seems like good company to be in. Lol. Also he's the first pitcher ever to strike out the 1st 6 batters he faced in his postseason debut.

    Mets win! :)

deGrom was just amazing tonight! Probably could have given up 2 fewer hits if Cuddy tracked the ball a bit better. ****, throw Conforto out there, he offers way more upside than Cuddy. I'm guessing that Mattingly wish he had kept Kershaw in to face Wright... Big hit by the Captain.

Degrom was damn good yesterday but i think the Mets will struggle today against Greinke though syndergaard is not an easy task either.

Itll be a very low acoring game.. Probably 1-0 Mets. I just dont trust Dodgers to score against top flight pitchers. This is a team that got no hit twice and shut out plenty in the regular season..

People forget that the mets got no hit by Heston and Scherzer. I don't care what score the mets win by, as long as they win.

Probably had Cuddyer playing cause Conforto would have been facing a ridiculously tough lefty and Cuddyer hits rights. He was terrible though.

Also why did Collins switch Murphy over to 1b when Duda is a much better defensive 1b? That was stupid. Murphy hasn't played a whole lot of 1b and Duda is a better power guy for sure. Kershaw was out already so that element can be used as a reason...

Definitely don't like the match up today for the Cubs... Garcia vs Hendricks.. yeesh... the Cubs don't have any other better options I assume? That's a lopsided pitching match up in favor of the Cardinals.

True story from Gammons, the Red Sox were set to trade Kelly Shoppach to the Mets in 2012. Cherington and Sandy Alderson agreed that it would be Shoppach for deGrom but before the trade went through Alderson checked with his minor league staff and they told him to hang on to deGrom so Pedro Beato was sent to the Sox instead. Not that I'm bitter or anything but imagine the outrage if that original trade went through.

The Cubs play style and game plan is built around taking walks and getting on base. Without those pitches being called correctly, they really have no hope unless the opposing pitcher starts making mistakes that they can crush. One place I read this morning said that the Cubs stuck out looking six times on pitches outside of the zone.

There was a lot of that in the Mets/LAD game last night as well. Last night was the first time in NLDS history but starting pitchers struck out at least 11 (there were 27 K's on the night)....id venture to say at least 1/4th were on pitches outside the zone. The only difference is hitters were attacking everything because of teh messed up strike zone that was presented early. I can count on one hand the number of times David Wright has been ejected from a game since 2004 but even Captain America was yelling at the ump all night. There were balls a foot off the plate that the LA crowd was upset werent called strikes because that was the expectation the umpire set early. Really poor, and inconsistent job

How very Mets that would have been. DeGrom I dont believe ever ranked higher then 9th on the Mets prospect charts because he was a late bloomer and coming off TJ.....plus all the more highly touted prospects the Mets had coming through at that time like Harvey, Thor, Wheeler, Matz, etc.

That slide by Utley was so dirty, and the umps let him get away with it. His legs were literally two feet off the base targetting to hit Tejada.

I cannot believe this 7th inning for the Mets... I seriously do not get how TC didn't re-challenge the slide at 2nd. Utley never touched the damn bag.

    ...

And now it looks like the game is over.

Utley (or someone on the Dodgers) needs one right in the ribs for that BS. You want old school baseball....

In 1973 Pete Rose did something similar to Bud Harrelson for the Mets in the NLCS where Harrelson was barrelled in to after he threw the ball....you can see the result below.

Agreed. He had 2 courses of action. He could have challenged that Utley never touched the bag or appealed to 2B. Plus He also could have argued that Utley was out of the baseline.
