I know a lot of people complain that conversations like this infect every other thread. So here we can have all Philbin discussions without hurting other threads. This is not meant to be a rant thread. It really is a legit attempt to have a place where all the arguments can be sent so posters can avoid or engage. First up....the whole bed check complaint that many posters are upset about. Cam Wake may have a different take...... http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/06/sports/football/afc-east-teams-on-a-quest-to-dethrone-the-patriots.html?_r=0
I really don't know if he sucks. I can't judge a coach without looking at the talent level of his players. This year will determine it.
I'm not sure what is the hoopla all about regarding this, but I think was about relationship building between the players and coaches. I believe it's more so on trust and reliability. Chemistry is so important with the team and I think that was the intention of these different goals and/or ideas.
If this thread results in insults back and forth it will be closed .Keep it clean and respect the opinions of the other posters please.
I really enjoyed that article. Particularly the one part about the offense: I like it because many of us have said the same thing, or at least thought it. The big "IF" at this point, being getting the offensive line going. If they can be at least average instead of "offensive," we're in for great things. This is my biggest knock on Philbin. When you've built your career and reputation on being an OL expert, yet your pro line fails for two full seasons, something just doesn't wash. A big part of the failure last year was moving James over to LT after the Albert injury, when we already had Pouncey as a negative at guard (unfortunately...I was really hopeful he'd tear it up there), creating a total of at least 3 big holes. Up until that point, the line was OK. Was Philbin just trying to be too cute and it backfired or did he really believe that was the best lineup given the players on the roster? We can't have a repeat of that...if so, I say he sucks...sorry. If the line can at least play average, and Philbin doesn't beat us with timeouts, and we can make good in-game and halftime adjustments, I say he doesn't suck. 2015 is crucial.
The hoopla for a lot of us is about decision-making. So many questionable calls. And chemistry is something I'd talk to players about at the end of the season. Winning helps develop chemistry, even with an *** of a coach, while losing helps break it apart. .. on a side note.. that article is really well written.
I think he is a good coach and I like that he's the Phin's coach. Just in Philbin's time alone, look at all of the changes that have occurred. They've switched GMs. There were certain Front Office changes and power struggles. We now have Tannenbaum. Philbin's first head coaching job and he has to start with a new and very raw rookie QB and together they both have done an admiral job. Tanne has been getting better every year and has already shown some impressive development and numbers, etc, etc, etc. He seems to get respect around the league. I mean, you guys still want Jeff Fisher? Has he shown to be better? I don't want to start a comparison, but just saying. It's never just one man. A lot of the time there are organizational issues, etc. I think with some consistency and stability, this team could do some great things with him at the helm, but in any organization, a lot of pieces have to fall the right way. The devil is in the details.
The FO changes are I think in part due to not having a better coach that could mask deficiencies by the GM, so that might not be a feather in the cap for Philbin, though it looks like it is for the franchise. You're definitely right about Fisher though..
I usually look at how the back-ups play in the preseason as an indicator of how good of a job the coaching staff is doing. I don't feel that our back-ups looked like they were well coached. By that measure, Philbin and company have not looked good. I have high hopes for us this season, but it will be largely about how well our star players overcome the coaching.
For me, this is Philbin's yr to show what he can do, it is "his" roster, "his" Qb and "his' Rb going into a contract yr, "his" wr and te corps as well I LOVE the fact he parted company with Sturgis, to me he was a threat to the season, we also kept guys who excel at ST mostly, like Paysinger and Bowman. The D is as loaded as I've seen it since the Wanny/JJ era, our Dline depth is amazing. First 6 games heavily favor the Dolphins as well All that means, Philbin is without excuse this yr.
Well my last inclination was he absolutely does suck, I wanted him fired but I didn't get what I want. So he has another season to dig himself out of the hole.
I really wish that those meditation lessons had stuck with you. Then maybe you wouldn't be the forum ruining cry baby you are now. Inner peace....go get some.
What is this, the 10th time you've insulted me personally today? While you cry in another thread about being "attacked?" Calling you on your hypocrisy and watching you pull hammies with your spin and circular arguments gives me all the inner peace I need.
I love hearing how Philbin sucks from guys who said Ireland sucked when the team was 8-8. Bad talent + bad coaching equals average team? Lol. It just doesn't add up. The way these guys beat their chests about how wrong there are is especially entertaining.
