I would argue that the allowance for variation in timing should be much more like .05-.1 seconds, at the MOST. This is the variance displayed in 40 yd dashes at the combine.

With that said, if the average time until sack is 2.9 seconds for all QBs, and the average time to throw is 2.4 seconds... You don't think only having 2.7 seconds to sack, on average, would have a serious effect?

Aaron Rodgers has the same "time to sack" as Tannehill this year (2.8 seconds), yet his QB rating and TD to INT ratio are above his career average, and his YPA is roughly the same as his career average.

By the same token, Blake Bortles has a "time to sack" only 0.03 seconds slower than Tannehill's (2.83 seconds), yet his passing performance measurables this year are much better than Tannehill's.

Aaron Rodgers also has Eddie Lacey and James Starks rushing for 126 ypg... That's the eighth best rushing attack in the NFL.

And Ryan Tannehill ISN'T Aaron Rodgers. Nobody but Aaron Rodgers is. The guy is a top 5 QB of ALL TIME.

Interestingly, if you flip those two statements around, you might actually have the reason why the Packers' running game is so good.

The QB affects the rest of the team. The rest of the team doesn't just affect the QB.

They aren't. When there isn't a sack, obviously the "time to sack" measurement isn't done.

No, Deej, what is childish, is when I say "the whole team has sucked this year so far", and he asks me if I include Tannehill in that. Then when I point out I said "the whole team", he ignores that and doesn't even apologize for making that accusation.

And for all the defense you've given Sho over the years, that is absolutely his m.o....like it or not.

Yeah thats what I thought...average time until throw. During the Monday night game on that play where Gruden was gushing over Wilsons great scramble it showed he had 7 seconds to throw. But if you saw the play you would see that he was under pressure almost immediately and ran around for avoiding would-be sacks for 6 of those 7 seconds, so what does that tell you about using the "average time to throw" stat to judge o-line play?

If there is a "time to pressure" stat it should be easy enough to produce and show the rankings.

All pressure is not the same.

You can have one or 4+ guys break through. You can have 4+ break through and they all be staggered so there's lanes to escape into.

Saying both guys faced pressure is not an accurate depiction of what happens.

I dont get mad when people compare Ryan to Aaron Rodgers.....I laugh at them.

There is no comparison whatsoever. Same with Brady and Matt Ryan, so when those comparisons arise you have to know you are fighting a losing battle.

Before last week Matt Stafford had the worst PB OL in football, he has had better stats than Ryan in their career....if we were to compare those two players side by side you guys would ignore his OL and point to reasons why he has better numbers, when talking Tannehill you would 120% blame the OL in your argument.

Point is, If an OL is as bad as a handicap as you claim (not that I disagree) then why the hell are you guys convienently leaving that out with your criticism of Wilson and Luck and Stafford??

You cant have your cake and eat it too....although Im guessing you have had your fair share.

I better not see a certain faction of people in here defend your comments anymore. Remember "they" claim it's a team sport and the QB position isn't capable of uplifting the offense in spots.

PS. I've yet to accuse you of anything you haven't done. If that day comes, I'll apologize for it when its proven. I do that, you know, admit when I'm wrong, apologize for misreading things, etc. Do you?

These games from last year say Hi.

Or are we blaming Tannehill for giving up long drives in the final 5 minutes?

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=400554364
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=400554355
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=400554299

By the way, if the D had held up for any of these games, we'd be in the playoffs. If it held up for all 3, we're 11-5.

This was this year, not that Tannehill played particularly well... But he did will us to a win.

    http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Dolphins-Come-From-Behind-in-Season-Opening-Win-327211491.html

Ryan Tannehill, in four years, has led EIGHT 4th Quarter comebacks.

Aaron Rodgers, in his seven years, has led NINE.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/comebacks_career.htm

Rodgers really should put the team on his back and will them to victories when they're behind more!

The whole team could use a lot of improving, but that doesn't change the role and IMPORTANCE of the QB position when it comes to the offense, which is why Tannehill continues to catch the amount of flack that he does.

....... comments to marginalize the QB position certain to start flowing in 3-2-1 .....

So... Why do you marginalize the Defense? If they didn't collapse in the 4th Q we were 11-5 last year.

His evidence was easy to discount. So, I should just wholesale accept any "evidence" you guys either manufacture or get wrong?

Let's think about this for just a second....

I said the whole team has sucked this year. But I'm accused of being a homer even though I said the WHOLE TEAM SUCKED THIS YEAR. When I point out how stupid that accusation was AND how stupid the "evidence" was, it gets ignored. By him, you, and every one of the rest of the Bayless Bunch.

    But I'm the problem? lol.

    Round and round we go.

QBs can make o-lines look bad just as o-lines can make QBs look bad. I see very little evidence that Tannehill does a good job of ever helping to make the line look good. There was that one time where he ducked a sack and threw a TD pass to Matthews last season, but plays like that are too few and too far between.

Some QBs do a good job of avoiding pressures too. If QB 1 steps up in the pocket at the right Moment but QB 2 keeps drifting back one QB may get pressured while the other may not, even though the o-line could play the exact same way in both scenarios. Plus Rodgers has this sick move where he looks like he's going to take off then steps back again, you can see what that move does to the defensive ends, and it totally buys him a lot of extra time.

And lastly when you see QBs like Brady and Rodgers seemingly standing there forever its typically against a 3 man rush. They feel or see the 3 man rush and know they have time. Tannehill doesn't seem to notice this and even when its only a 3 man rush he panics and checks it down. This is another reason I don't like the "time to throw" stat. If a QB like Brady throws in 2 seconds when he has 2 seconds and 7 seconds when he has 7 seconds then his time to throw is going to be better than the QB that always throws in 2.5 seconds regardless of circumstance.

The Bills and the Jets in 2013 say Hi right back atcha!

As for Rodgers ...... 9 fourth quarter comebacks and 13 game winning drives. Tannehill 8 and 5.

But let's ignore the fact that Rodgers more often than not is playing at a high level and isn't playing from behind at nearly the same clip Ryan Tannehill is.

Nobody is marginalizing the defense. It's chicken or the egg. You can have the defense make a stop or the offense run the clock. At $95 million, I sure hope to God Tannehill can lead an offense that will do that more often instead of pinning it on a GASSED defense at the end of the season.

The end result of your ridiculous stance....if the QB doesn't score a TD on every possession then he didn't do enough to win.

I know you're gonna freak out and call me names and whatever, but really think about it, that is the logical conclusion of your stance.

QB A can have 10 possessions and put up 70 points. But QB B can have 11 possessions and put up 73 points. Following the logic you've laid out, its QB A's fault for not winning somehow.

Not going to want to compare Tanny to Rodgers (Tanny needs to be compared to Eli, Flacco, Dalton etc.) but Green Bay's defense in 2013 ranked 24th in points allowed, 28th in yards per play allowed, 25th in total defense.

Rodgers went 5-2 then got injured. Seneca Wallace, Tolzien and Matt Flynn went 2-5-1, and Rodgers came back in game 16 to win the final game and secure the playoffs.

Yeah, I'd say it was all Rodgers.

Not sure why the comparison to Brady and Rodgers, except to try to make Tannehill look bad, and heaven forbid I give a comparison of those the that does the opposite...but here's the difference: a three or four man rush against Brady and Rodgers doesn't get pressure. Teams do it to them in hopes that the extra defenders will disrupt the pass instead of getting pressure on the QB. Against the Dolphins, 3 or 4 man rushes DO get pressure AND teams still have the extra defenders out to disrupt the pass. So not only does Tannehill lose the benefit of having a comfy pocket against 3 man rushes, but he also had to throw into tight windows all over the field.
