Just watched the 1996 remake of "The Island of Dr. Moreau" with Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. I saw it when it came out but had forgotten about it. After watching it again, it was still, "meh."

I'm actually really looking forward to it, but my daughter isn't quite ready for it yet at the cinema. We'll see it on dvd. We are going to take her to see the Minions though soon. First time at the movies with an almost four year old, so wish me luck. She loves them and I think it'll be more fast paced and keep her attention.

Did it work? I find I typically don't require instructions in that department myself.

Watched Ant-Man yesterday. Really enjoyed that one. Wasn't as good as Guardians of the Galaxy, but still really enjoyed it. I think having Paul Rudd help write the screenplay brought an extra level of humor that paid off. Liked Evangeline Lilly as the costar. Loved the Avengers tie-in and the post credits extra scene.

My sons 3 and he loves movies. He will sit through an entire movie. He will make some noises and be loud a little, but its a kids movie. Who cares. You'll be fine.

As I said in the Marvel thread, I likely won't get to see it in the theatre, but I will eventually. I'm not surprised that its the lowest grossing Marvel movie since 2008 though, and the worst in the MCU when adjusted for inflation. Even though Rudd is one of my favorite actors, and I'm big into Marvel, I'm not clamoring to see it, and if I'm not, it's no surprise that the general public isn't either. I'm glad that it's pretty good though.

I don't think Rudd is the one holding back the sales, it's the hero being depicted. Ant-Man was never that popular (I grew up a Marvel comic book geek). I believe they did the most they possibly could with introducing this hero. That fact that it is the lowest grossing movie is because it doesn't appeal to the general audience, but certainly appeals to the comic book/hero audience.

Oh I agree. I just phrased it weird. I had no idea Ant Man was even a major character in the 60s & 70s until recently. Usually, with a super hero movie, I'm like "wow, Captain America or Iron Man is awesome! That's so cool!".....I'm in no way thinking that about Ant Man, lol.

Ant-Man only came in a little below expectations and it's received not only strong critical reviews but also high audience scores, which usually means that word of mouth will lead to some sustainability. Marvel has set the bar so high that it's become almost impossible to meet expectations. Age of Ultron is in some quarters seen as a disappointment because it's only the 2nd (or maybe even 3rd highest grossing movie of the year.

It was a really well done film. I think it will have legs, particularly with the competition slowing down. I don't think Pixels, F4 and MI:Rogue Nation will be that huge. The character was really likable. Ant-Man isn't a character though that's made for many solo-adventures. They should add him and the Wasp to the future Avengers movies and they'd be welcome additions

yeah, Ant-Man was one of the original Avengers. SO was the Wasp. (and Capt, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk). But in the comics Hank Pym played multiple hero personas - including Giant Man (opposite of Ant-Man) and Yellowjacket - changed in the movie. Even though he was a well known character, he was never strong enough to stand alone in the comics IMO. that's what impresses me even more about the movie - that they were able to make a high quality movie based on a character that was never that strong to begin with.

I watched Sharknado 3 last night. It was cheesy goodness. The only thing I was missing to go along with it was a big can of processed cheese sauce and a spatula. Each sequel gets more celeb cameos and shameless advertising plugs. Apparently they're already set to make a 4th one.

I'm proud to say I've never seen a Sharknado movie. Plan to keep it that way, too.

Saw Ant-Man. I enjoyed it a lot. I like how they're setting him up to have a larger role in the MCU. I feel he brings a whole new perspective to the universe.

Horrible Bosses 2, on DVR of course. not as good as the first one, but still, if you liked the first one for its outrageous-ness, you'll like this one too I think. Jennifer Aniston, her character is great. Christoph Waltz (always great)... Jonathan Banks (Mike from Breaking Bad), solid appearance.

Ant-Man: Great movie, Paul Rudd did well as an action guy with comedy mixed. Reminded me a lot of Chris Pratt doing Starlord. Excited to see the end credit scene!!!!!!

Gone Girl on my DVR... it was okay... very long movie though, 2 hours 30 mins. It was almost like they didn't know how to end it. Which I won't give the ending away of course.

My kids spent the weekend at my mother in law's so my wife and I had the chance to watch a few movies we'd had on the DVR for a while.

47 Ronin was not what I was expecting, based on the trailers. I was thinking that it would be full of cool action sequences and Japanese mythology, but those parts were squeezed into about 20 minutes of the two hour film. Beautifully filmed and well acted, but slow and character driven, which wasn't what I was looking for.

R.I.P.D., on the other hand, was pretty much what I thought it would be, and I felt that the first third of the movie was actually really good. They established their characters and the universe, and on a very peripheral level, it reminded me of one of my favorite shows, Dead Like Me. But then it seemed like they got bored or lazy with it, and it gradually got worse towards the end, where it was just stupid and rediculous. It had a lot of promise, and four quality "name" actors, but it wasn't what it could have been. Too bad.

American Sniper-depressing *** propaganda film with the usual cliche of troubled wife at home with child...guy was such a dick, got shot by his own. This dude was bound to kill in his lifetime. The real life dude was reportedly a monster.

The humor and the way he left his succubus girlfriend were the highlights... I say succubus because she tried to make him feel ****ty for her own transgression.

The Martian is good. Matt Damon does a great job. Similar to castaway but less depressing more humor, etc... The cast was strong overall too, including Jeff Daniels (very underrated).

Black Mass- Really great cast w very little to do. Just not a whole lot going on w the story and when things do happen, they seem anti-climactic.

Sicario- Basically the Del Toro show since he's the only character that has any point or they bothered to develop. Cool visuals for sure, but the story is ehhhh. You've seen most of this **** a million times before. Don't get the lovefest I'm seeing for this.

It's def propagandafest for sure. That and if you've seen it you know the fake baby might be the cheapest thing done in recent movie history lol How anyone thought that was a good enough is beyond me. I will say that the action in it is extremely well done. Everything else is hard to watch.

Went to see this on Friday. Absolutely loved it, such a great, fun movie. A good bit funnier than I expected and ridiculously tense in parts.

Damon is great, but the whole movie is loaded with really good actors in pretty tiny roles.

I watched Coherence for a third time, though first time in months. It's a movie you need to watch multiple times. Every line of dialogue is pivotal to how you portray what really goes down.

Watched a bunch of movies lately...

Spotlight - The story of the investigative team and their investigation into the catholic church molestation scandal that ultimately won them a Pulitzer prize. An all around great film. All of the actors kill it, and there's even a little twist at the end. Where's Michael Keaton been over the last few years? He and Tom Hanks were comedy kings at one point, both turned serious, both had great roles, and Keaton kind of disappeared. He's recently reemerged and has put out great work again. Big fan, hopefully he keeps it up. It's not the first time he's played a reporter, as he was awesome in "Live from Baghdad." Check that out too if you're into investigative type of stories.

The Hateful 8 - Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors. I love his style, dialog, concepts, etc... I'd watch anything he made. TH8 is another great film. I wasn't sure I was going to like it based on what I knew about it, but it's full of rich characters, great dialog, and great actors. Or at least actors QT makes great. It's a little bit of a "who done it" film, but QT style.

The Revenant - Amazing cinematography. The visuals of this film are terrific. Tom Hardy steals this picture. I think he has a better shot at an Oscar for this than Leo. Which isn't anything against Leo, who has an amazing performance too. In fact, his role was much harder, but Hardy just blends into his roles in a way that's incredible. Probably the best actor in hollywood atm. This movie is exhausting to watch. From the opening scene (crazy tracking shot that was incredible) until the final finish, the intensity is full throttle. This is a long movie as it is, but it feels so much longer. I did like it, but I don't know if this is really a multiple viewing type of film. It's stressful...

Spectre - Awful. Honestly, it's bad. And I've pretty much loved all the DC Bond films at this point. At some point, it's like... what's happening? Are we going anywhere with this? Where's Christoph Waltz? Oh, there he is! Wait... Hey.... Why didn't they write some charm into his character? They do know who he is, right? So vanilla... It seems like TPTB decided to revert to the old Bond formula of action glitz and glamour, rather than a strong story with heavy characterization. Not a fan. Huge let down, IMO.
