From what the new coaches have said over the past week, it seems like we will not focus on changing the scheme but that doesn't mean we can't think up other creative solutions for both the defense and offense.

    On defense:

Even while playing below his average, Suh is still the most dominant DL we have right now. Why don't we use this to our advantage and move him around the line more often? This accomplishes two things:

    1) It confuses the offense and makes them think a little more before the snap.
    2) It creates bigger mismatches, especially if you constantly line him up across the weakest link.

I thought about this as soon as I heard that Nate Solder was out for the season. Against the Patriots, maybe put Suh at RDE in OV's spot for a few plays throughout the game. Obviously, this is assuming that Suh at RDE is going to be better than OV, and I do think this will be the case. We then put Phillips or Mosley at Suh's spot and we still have a pretty good interior. Another advantage for us is that it will come as a surprise for whichever OL he lines up across. The whole week they will study the tendencies of the DL that usually lines up across from him, OV and Fede in this case, but then when they see Suh there, it will be a whole nother animal.

    On offense:

In order to spark a fast start on offense, I thought about running a very uptempo no-huddle in 12 personnel in the first quarter. We focus on running the ball (including Tannehill running more often) and PA passes down after down with very little pause in between. With the way Dan Campbell has been cultivating a tougher, more competitive environment, where the focus is on winning one-on-one matchups, it just might be the type of offense that'll work for us. It'd be our style of smash mouth football.

Anyone else have other ways of changing things up without actually changing the scheme?

Philbin preached the no huddle forever...still failed to implement it on a consistent basis.

I'd set the defense according to the weakest lineman opposite Suh. Get OV outta there, with Phillips or Mitchell... You heard me right. Get Misi in the middle with McCain as slb.

Agreed. Misi's presence was felt last year at MLB. So far this year, I can't even find him on the field. Zero impact. Time to make a change.

The fact that we even have to talk about how something as simple as moving guys around to make mismatches and that it's rarely been done so far, pretty much tells you everything.

I'd take Mitchell out. He makes a good play every once in a while, but is non-existent most of the time. Bring in Mosley or Philips for a rotation next to Suh. Rotate Fede in a lot more with Vernon. and find opportunities to bring Lippett in - at least in dime packages, see what the kid has in a live game.

Well, here's the thing...if we start naming people who "suck", then you've already decided that Campbell can't change anything through making folks more physical.

I see him making good stops frequently. He has not disappeared. The defense is not consistently playing as a team.

Agreed! I am not going to forget the past games, but I am going to treat this as game number one for the players to ensure I judge who steps up without prejudice. Not that my opinion matters, but that is how I am going to approach it.

We could also blitz. I see other defenses doing that a lot. It looks pretty neat.

I'm most interested in how the OL responds tomorrow. Campbell talked about changing their mindset and style of play. Until now, our O-line played defense, like they are always on their heels and in protection mode. That by default, actually puts opposing D-lines on the offensive. He wants our guys to go after and attack THEM, making them hesitate and start having to think, instead of always smelling blood. It's call turning the tables, and that's how Dan Campbell says an Oline wins the trenches. We will see tomorrow what kind of effort they give their new alpha coach.

Misi is lucky to be in the NFL. That guy sucks, wouldnt be a starter for most teams in the NFL. Hope he is gone after this season. We need a real middle linebacker, a guy like Bowman. A real leader.
