Jeez, the first shutout since 2007, and the worst loss ever for the Hurricanes. To me, it looks like our Canes will have a new Head Coach next season. At this point, I can't see any reason for the AD to give Golden another season to fix things.
Nothing from this admin would surprise me. They don't care about the football program. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
@WPLGLocal10: BREAKING NEWS: Al Golden has been fired as the #Canes head coach... https://t.co/89o1c0BQNL https://t.co/qAHlMOwdBe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Greatest news ever. Unfortunately I just have this sinking feeling we'll just replace him with another cheap, loser option like Mario Cristobal. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I like Pagano. Chud is meh to me. Same with Schiano. Herman, Butch, Fuente are my top 3 in that order, for realistic options with Chip Kelly being the dream scenario. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Greg Schiano, Butch Davis, Chuck Pagano or Chip Kelly. Hire a proven guy not a no-name like Mario Cristobal.
What a relief. So many viable candidates out there. First call should go to Tom Herman after the season.
Hue Jackson's name was thrown around in the past, and now. He actually interests me. I think he'd make a great college coach with his style and attitude. He's also a brilliant offensive mind. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Mark Stoops name thrown around. Add him to the list of meh former miami coaches like Chud and Schiano. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Wait, what? How are these names not reversed? Chud got undermined by a horrible organization, Pagano has had full support and has flopped. (Ryan Grigson is doing him no favors, though.) Chud should definitely be a candidate, at least in the same tier as Cristobal, as a Plan C type. No thanks to Schiano, too.
Mario may not be the first choice but don't call him a "no-name." Alumni from the U, played for a bit in the NFL, turned FIU's program around before he was unjustly let go, now is with Saban where he was a top notch recruiter according to Rivals.com He recruits the state of Florida. I've talked to a couple of local high school head coaches with top programs and they both think he is a class act. They wished he was the coach now. Like I said, he may not be the favorite choice, but he needs to be heavily considered because of his influences in recruiting the state. Maybe with him, the local recruits won't go anywhere else.
I like Pagano and think he's a good coach in a bad situation. I don't think Chud is a terrible candidate. Not at all. I'd put him in that tier 2 of potential candidates, same with Pagano. Chud is certainly a much better option than Cristobal though. I fail to see the intrigue in Mario. He can recruit and has Miami ties. Ok who cares... Miami lands top 15 recruiting classes at minimum every year regardless. What has Mario proven as a coach? Because Miami needs a coach. Talent isn't, never has, and never will be the problem. Last year's draft proved that. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Those ties and recruiting are irrelevant imo. Randy Shannon had all that too. Talent isn't the problem. Never will be. There's enough talent on the roster now that there's no reason as to why this team isn't dominating the pathetic coastal division and playing in the ACC championship every year. Miami needs a coach. A guy that knows x's and o's. Is Mario that guy? I certainly don't think so. He's proven nothing as a coach. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
He's a good position coach. There was nothing bad about his situation going in; bad division, set to draft the best QB prospect since John Elway. But the Colts looked night and day when Bruce Arians was coaching them as an interim versus now when Chuck Pagano is coaching them. I don't see basis for saying Chuck Pagano is a good HC.
Butch would be my first choice, Schiano my second among those name. Mike Shula is a name I would have some interest in as well. Barry Jackson brought up the idea that he would potentially bring Ken Dorsey with him as well as he's his QB coach right now with the Panthers. I don't know that I'd be against Chud. Big no thanks to Cristobal and Pagano. Pagano is not a good coach and I don't know that I see him being a good recruiter. And I don't like the way Cristobal bailed on this team for Alabama, and I'm not sure he's the guy to take us back to prominence anyway.
How is this an argument in favor of Pagano's abilities as a head coach? This is like claiming Tony Sparano was a good head coach. Arians had the same GM and a roster that went 1-15 the previous year, and produced more quality results.
For you guys who want Butch Davis, Barry Jackson says in his latest Sports Buzz that UM people "roll their eyes" when Butch is brought up. So don't count on him getting the job.
It's an argument refuting the notion that Pagano is in a good situation. He isn't. Even with a roster with many, many problems, and a GM that seems to be actively doing everything possible to NOT fix the glaring issues like the offensive line, he just had that roster one game away from the Superbowl. That team has many problems. Pagano is the least of them. The GM is even forcing a terrible OC on him in Pep Hamilton when he wants Chud calling the plays. Pagano is a proven coach from a great coaching tree who I'm sure can't wait to be fired so he can get a job that actually gives him the freedom to do his job. He has no desire to work for Grigson, nor should he. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I think most would agree Butch is a long shot even though he's the obvious choice. Butch is well respected by some members of the BOT though, and they'll ultimately be the ones choosing the next coach, not Blake James. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Question, judging by the history of underpaying coaches, why does everyone keep mentioning top tier coaches to come in? Not trying to be rude, but if history has shown us anything it is the the administration at UM don't want to spend the $5mil+/year to get the top flight coaches. I would think most of the names I keep hearing would require that kind of cash. Has there been a change? Is UM willing to pay that much?
I haven't seen one "top tier" coach mentioned here. The guys being talked about are lower level tier with ties to the school.
When? Certainly not in his last gig as a head coach. Miami can't afford to gamble on a guy like him. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I would go with Greg Schiano but I must admit I don't feel all that good about any of the rumored candidates.
How many D1 schools are looking to share a stadium with an MLS team because they can't fill an NFL stadium. Meanwhile in Jacksonville the only time Everbank Field will ever be sold out is coming up this weekend to watch SEC teams play.
Vegas has Butch Davis as the best odds of being the next head coach. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I'm guessing only because we know for a fact he wouldn't hesitate to accept the offer. We still have no idea if Miami has any interest.
How about right now? He is guiding an offense without any real talent aside from his QB, to a very successful season. And I don't see how any of the coaches mentioned aren't gambles. Just about every coaching hire is. He's not my top choice, but I wouldn't be underwhelmed by hiring him, and I don't think he'd be such a bad hire compared to any of the other names mentioned.
Ill take Butch Davis. If he walks in the door, instant respect. With recruits "Look what I did here before. I want you to be part of doing it again.". If nothing else, give us some nostalgia. Oh and give us some facilities worth a crap too.
This is the first time that offense has been any good since he took over for Chud, so let's not get to carried away. He failed at Alabama. Next. Hue Jackson is the only NFL OC worth considering. His personality is meant for the college game and he's inquired about the job in the past. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
