Check out @MiamiDolphins's Tweet: https://twitter.com/MiamiDolphins/status/664080252256313344?s=09 Surprised at the move?
It was always between Gray and Ajayi, and the fact that Ajayi was a draft pick gave him a leg up, but still a bit surprised it happened based on 5 carries, although he did look very good on those 5 carries.
Disappointing. I'd have rather kept Gray, and released Williams. Gray has more to offer IMO, even if Williams can contribute on special teams as a returner... if that's what you want to call what he does.
There has to be a story behind this, released by the Pats and Dolphins......there has to be personal problem. He has such great potential, but yet keeps getting let go by teams.
it should have been between ajayi and williams. then no fans would be upset when williams gets cut. then let lamar miller return kicks, give ajayi the first carries of a series. miller used to be on returns at UM so he's done it and has returned kicks for TD's.
I think a lot of it has to do with that one great game was against a really really bad Colts run D with a really really good offense to operate in. People look at that stat line and think he must be a superstar, but I think the reality is any mediocre NFL RB with healthy legs would had a huge day in that situation.
In a word? Premature. Ajayi did alright but can he stay healthy? If not, we're stuffed. Only way this makes sense is if they have some OL or LB help coming in, we'll have to wait and see, but even then...
I was surprised because I thought it would have been Williams over Gray. Especially how poor he did in the return game on Sunday.
Actually he did have one big return called back on a flag, but the problem is that they have different roles on the team, Gray and Ajayi are back up/short yardage RBs, both filling one role, while Williams is a KR/3rd down/back up RB, and neither Gray nor Ajayi can fill those roles.
The big return that was called back on a holding call, which is exactly what allowed the big return to happen. I'm not so sure we can give Williams credit for taking advantage of a penalty call, can we? The hold, is the main reason it was a big return, rather than the normal return you'd expect.
Do they realize we actually pay Damien Williams for what he puts out there? If they do then what criteria in gods green earth do they measure who should stay and who should go.
Jonas doesn't hit the hole w/any speed whatsoever. I'm not surprised by this move at all. Even w/o Ajayi, Gray would never have evolved into anything more than a slow powerback. Surprised people are upset w/the move...
Hes back on PS again. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/11/11/dolphins-add-jonas-gray-to-practice-squad/
This wasn't the right move, but it also doesn't really matter. You won't find someone around these parts that has been a fan of Jonas Gray longer than I have but the fact of the matter is Jay Ajayi was a better prospect coming out even if you take aside the horrific knee injury Jonas took on Senior Night. They're also similar players at the position except Ajayi is a proven pass catcher. Lamar Miller is also now a compelling pass catcher by the way. Bottom line, when you have Lamar Miller and Jay Ajayi as your 1-2 punch there's really no reason to give two sh-ts who the 3 guy is. They made Damien Williams that 3 because he's supposedly a good kick returner. I don't agree with that personally.
Potential is keeping #17 here........ I think he only stays on the practice squad because of the injury concern for Ajayi.
This thread title sounds like it should be the name of an old Western...... or a fancy art house porno.
