Want a new QB? Have a HC in mind for next season? Your the new Football President of the Miami Dolphins and Stephen Ross has handed you the keys. How would you go about building the Miami Dolphins and getting them back into contention? Include all the necessary parts, GM, HC, Assistant Coaches, player changes, what direction youd like them to go in draft or FA. What kind of identity would you want the team to have. Lets try and keep feedback and critiques to a minimum till we get a few blue prints..so it does not get convoluted. There is no wrong answer...its your personal opinion.
Keeping it realistic - doubt Campbell wins the job - make offer to Hue Jackson - dump Vernon, Jennings, Mitchell Top two draft picks spent on some combination of pass-rusher/CB/Oline
Honestly I feel like it's a bit too early to answer a lot of these questions, seeing how Cambo finishes the season, where we end up picking in the draft, and what players currently on the team show the rest of the season, either positively or negatively, but I do know I want Tannenbaum gone.
- Send Lazor packing - Hue Jackson and whoever he wants as coordinators. - Dump Jennings, Mitchell, D. Williams & OV. - Set Miller and Ajayi as the one two punch. - Bring in a wide body as short yardage back. - Set Phillips starting next to Suh. - Move McCain to OV's spot full time. - Draft LT and DE high in the first 2 rounds. - Let rookie DE spell & learn under Wake who will be back, IMO. - Rest of the draft goes to secondary and LB corps. - Bring in 4 average OGs and let the best from that and what we already have start. - Give Jordan one more chance in TC.
Serious question for you, what motivates you to make this comment? I posted where I stand at the moment, politely declining to answer some of the criteria for reasons I posted, and that right now the only guy I really want gone is Tannenbaum. Also, VT asked not to add feedback until there were a few blue prints. So what motivates you to make that comment?
Draft Cook, Goff or Lynch should be the first thing on everyones list. Whoever drops, get him. Or go after Doughty in the second round.
I think he was just letting you know its kind of like a fantasy draft thing..completely what you would do if they gave you keys
Id keep Tannenbaum HC Dan Campbell OC Al Saunders DC Mike Singletary Id find the best available QB Coach. Who has a track record of developing QBs to do the finish work on Tannehill. Draft would focus on LBs..Defensive Backs..And Offensive Line. Let Wake go, resign to better contract. Resign Miller, let OV and Mathews test FA..
God only knows what it will take to turn this team around. Better linebackers, a couple DBs, a DE, at least one O lineman and all new coaches.
First of all, clean house from the top to the bottom in the front office. I would love that to include Ross selling the team, but I know that request is unrealistic. Get rid of Tannebaum because I think it is already fairly clear he is responsible for spending all the cap money on Suh, while totally ignoring the real issues on this team at LB and in the secondary, as well as on the OL. I see this team heading to the same type cap hell the Jets had under Tannebaum. Get rid of Hickey and the entire coaching staff. As much as I like Campbell, he just isn't ready to be a head coach at this time. Forcing the next head coach to keep Campbell on the staff next year may create a division within the players in regards to support for the new head coach versus support for Campbell. Hire a head of football operations who actually knows how to run a football organization. Allow this individual to hire the next GM and head coach and have the GM and Head Coach report directly to this head of football operations. Hire a top line GM candidate, instead of someone no other NFL organization has any interest in even interviewing for their GM position. Hopefully hire the next Bill Belichick and find the next Tom Brady somewhere in the 2016 draft. Last but not least, pay whatever is necessary to hire the best assistant coaches possible. This was one of the major areas where Philbin really failed as an NFL head coach. He did a terrible job hiring competent assistant coaches who actually help improve the performance of the players on the roster. This was the reason so many players left Miami and were better players once they received competent coaching with another NFL team. I suspect it is going to take 3-4 years to rebuild this team. Hopefully this time they will finally get it right. Because it is obvious that their last several rebuilds have been a total failure.
Hire Hue Jackson. Let him build his own staff. Let Tannenbaum decide on Hickey. Resign Lamar Miller. Let Rishard Matthews walk. Let Olivier Vernon walk. Release Brent Grimes. Resign Derrick Shelby. Try to sign a good free agent defensive back. Draft defensive stars at whatever position. Draft a tight end in a mid to late round. I'm tempted to say draft a LT, but that defense needs every high pick. We have to live with Albert's injuries.
Pretty much this. Our offense is pretty young. Re-sign Miller as and fix the O-Line. Done. Defense needs most of the work. On all three levels.
Well...remember this. If you cant trust Ross to hire the right people to run the team.....are you gonna trust Ross to sell it to the right owner? It would be very possible that he could sell the team to an owner who is like Jeffrey Loria. Then all the sudden Ross looks like the best owner on earth. At least with Ross WE KNOW he will spare no expense to put money into the team. We WANT an owner like that.
. Sign Hue Jackson and let him hire his coordinators . Resign Reshad Jones, Lamar Miller, Derek Shelby . Let Matthews walk, let OV walk, cut Grimes, cut Wake. . entertain trade talks and if you get an offer that blows you away you jump in it. If you don't then you keep him for this last year. . if you Trade Tannehill sign a veteran that can hold the fort down. . Make a run at best available corner and good LG . If Paxton Lynch or Goff fall to you, pull the, trigger. If not Draft best available Corner, G, LB. . if you Don't land Lynch or Goff, draft a QB with great potential to compete for starting job.
I'd come in and take a year to assess the hierarchy and how everyone fits from Hickey to Tannebaum, but would have a more hands on approach in terms of personnel on the team itself. This way I could see what both Tannebaum and Hickey's thinking was before I outright let them go, or more likely in this situation see them resign with the loss of power. I'd clean house on the coaching staff as it's time for a real change in perspective and attitude. I'd try to bring in more experience with the coordinators. HC - Sean McDermott (Panthers DC) or Matt Patricia (Patriots DC) OC - I'd let the HC choose a guy he's comfortable with, so you might see a return of Brian Daboll, or Ken Dorsey show up. DC - Mike Smith or Gus Bradley Team roster - I'd give Ryan Tannehill another year as starter and draft a QB in the second round or later (Cardale Jones, Kevin Hogan, Christian Hackenberg) - The majority of the draft will deal with bringing in the players that fit the HC and DC defense. - I'd consider bringing back Lamar Miller but my backfield could end up being Jay Ajayi and Derrick Henry. - First round would bring in a top CB prospect
I don't really have an answer to that at the moment, but here in Jersey I watched him ruin the Jets and I don't want him ruining the Fins. I would like to see a GM/HoFO put in place though, as 1 job, and that that guy made all the decisions so that Ross could become just a spectator and everyone else answered to that 1 guy, it's a very convoluted structure right now where they all answer to Ross who doesn't really know much at all about football.
Personally I don't trust Ross at all when it comes to hiring the right people to turn this team around. As far as him selling the team to another owner is concerned. While Ross is certainly willing to spend the money. As the last 5 plus years have clearly shown, spending a lot of money doesn't bring you a winning team. I would rather have an owner that spent less, but also hired football people who know how to draft quality talent and who might actually hire a head coach and coaching staff who can get the most out of the players. Dan Snyder in Washington has probably spent more money than any NFL owner since he became the majority owner of the Redskins and the Redskins have been one of the worst teams in the league since he became the owner. Joe Robbie on the other hand was always considered one of the cheapest owners in the NFL. Yet he always tried to hire the top GM's and he traded for Shula when he was considered one of the top young head coaches in the NFL. To me, a good organization starts at the top and filters downward. I believe Ross wants to build a winner in Miami. I just don't think he really has a clue how to go about doing that.
I can get on board with this plan man, good stuff! Haven't given much thought to McDermott but considering how he's gotten those defenses to perform id say he deserves a look. And since running back is the most interchangeable position in all of football we could go the route of picking up another back in the draft to pair with Ajay and spending the money that would go to Lamar to fill some other holes.... Well thought out man, some calculated moves there that may be beneficial for the team when your looking bigger picture.
I don't know the names of guys, but I'd bring in a different OC, a different oline coach, and a different QB coach. I'd be focusing on defense in the draft: LB, CB, and a pass rusher. If a good olineman were available, I probably go after him in the third. Grab some decent vets for oline in FA, for my new oline coach to coach up. Tannehill gets one more year with an offseason to train with his new QB coach.
Hmm...Miami Dolphin scouts only attending Memphis vs. Houston out of these games. Probably in order to check out Paxton Lynch. Interesting...perhaps he will be on their blueprint in the off season. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...g-5-nfl-clubs-credentialed-for-oklahomabaylor
