No grimes, no wake, even Jenkins went down today. And yet, the Eagles only scored 19pts, 16 of which came in the first qtr. Starts with Suh. This was an all-pro, dominant performance at DT. 8 tackles today, 1 sack. The man lived in their backfield today. His play was stellar. McCain/Fede/shelby. These 3 have big shoes to fill without #91 out there, but damn if they didn't do it today. 2 sacks, 2 FF, and 6 tackles between them. Great job by them. How about the rookie CBs? Not bad, not bad. Nothing earth shattering but that's fine from bobby mccain and lippett. That was a hell of a hit by Jamar taylor today. Loved seeing that. Of course our soon to be all pro safety killed it again. 8 tackles, 1 int, 1 sack. This man's going to Hawaii. They played with heart out there today. I'm proud of em. Edit: also we got robbed on that roughing call.
they really did play with heart. you could almost say that in all three levels of our defense (dl, lb, db) we were missing our best player but other than the 1st qtr we buckled down and though we bent alot we didnt break
Let's not forget Kelvin Sheppard! As much as the guy makes me sick, he did really well out there today. Easy to do when Suh is eating linemen for breakfast, of course. But this was definitely what the media meant by "Suh makes everyone around him better" when we first signed him. If his production continues, the whole defense will feast - injured or not.
I agree, the defense did what it needed to do. But to be fair I think both offenses are hot garbage. Chip Kelly is marginally better than Bill Lazor, but they both think along the same lines. Neither uses their RBs like they should and neither one knows how to sustain any momentum. For that matter, neither OC makes his QB look very good and it was Sanchez who helped seal the deal. This was kind of a cripple fight of a game. You have to take that into account.
If anything I think the defense showed they're talented enough to shine even with awful coaching. The Dolphins had no answer for what the Eagles did early on. They didn't adjust and take it away from them, they outsmarted themselves and went away from it. You still saw some big gains off of PA drags to the TE in the second quarter. By the time Mark Sanchez took over it was basically done, the guy was clearly unprepared to play.
Lazors ineptitude is why I was impressed with the defense. They were put in terrible spots all day and made it through
Agreed that the Eagles offense isn't great, but I don't think it's bad. I'd say it's in the top half of the league. Also gotta remember we forced 3 fumbles and couldn't recover any of them... if we had, the defense would've been even more dominant.
I stated during the past week that I don't think Campbell is ready yet to be a head coach in the NFL. I still have my doubts, but I will admit that this team didn't stop playing hard today after falling behind by two TD's early in the game. This was the type game this team would just seem to give up and lose by a big margin when Philbin was the head coach. I hope Campbell proves me wrong and he does end up proving he deserves the job permanently, but he needs to lead this team to at least an 8-8 record for me to be sold on him. It was a sloppy game overall today, but a win is still a win. I give Campbell a lot of credit for the effort of the players today.
I dont think I want him full time. There is just too many stupid things happening with this offense that hes letting happen to have any faith in him long term. Ajayi getting 40 yds on 4 carries then basically not using him at all after the fact, the consistent negative screen calls, lack of situational awareness, too much shotgun formation, etc. If he wants to be a HC he's gotta reel in Lazor.
I like how the defense adjusted as the game went on, but man they were totally unprepared for the game in the 1st quarter. This was a game where the team that shot itself in the foot LESS won, more than our defense being that good (though I'll admit it was much better than I expected given all the injuries).
Seriously impressive. All banged up and rookies all over the field and they played very well for three quarters and made key plays in the 4th to win the game. All those youngsters showing up is encouraging for the future too.
The things you listed, plus his overall time as a coach is why I question if he is the answer beyond this season. Yet if he can lead this team to an 8-8 record after the start they had this season, I think Ross would likely view him as a valid candidate for the permanent job. I don't like the fact he is basically getting on the job training for the position, but so far he has done better than Philbin did after more than three years of on the job training for the same job. If the decision were being made today, I would opt to go with a more experienced head coach starting next season. Yet Campbell has 7 more games as interim HC to prove he deserves the opportunity to be considered for the permanent head coaching job next year.
I like that a lot of young players are getting real snaps, but we won (just barely) because Mark Sanchez is... well, Mark Sanchez. Against Bradford we lose by 10 points or so. That said, I loved that Suh played with some fire today and the other guys did just enough to secure the win.
We had 7 guys play today that were either 5th round rookies, 2nd and 3rd string backups, or just promoted from the PS. Very happy that they held the Eagles to a TD less than their average and that we won this game. Valiant effort from the defense today.
The defense allowed 17 points, the offense gave up yet another safety. You can't blame the defense for that aspect of the score. There is literally nothing they can do about that.
With the game on the line I thought Reshad Jones ran a perfect crossing route in the end zone and Sanchez perfectly hit him in stride...a beautiful thing to watch.
yeah there was one guy who played today that i didnt even know he was on our roster. neville hewitt and he had 6 tackles lol. GO THUNDERING HERD
Our CBs only allowed 76 yards from Philly's WRs. It was the TEs that were killing us. 202 yards. And to a lesser extent, their RBs with 114.
Yea no duh, he's a bad QB. Most teams have bad qbs, not us. Great game by Ndamukong today, really lived up 2 the contract. Our dline would suck without him.
suh was such a beast and fede/shelby/c. mccain really stepped into the shoes of wake. on another note please someone fire bill lazor......
Neville Hewitt deserves some love too. Kid was in on some big plays, had an opportunity to make some others....really liked what he did today. Glad to see Lippett and Hull get some time too.
Fede was all over the place, he had a great game. I take back ONE of the nasty things I said about Taylor, and maybe one more cuz of that lethal, legal, hit. Jones for Prez! MVP of this game.
Quite the Debbie downer huh? The points don't tell the entire story buddy. Watch the game. Missing Wake, Grimes and Jenkins the defense did a hell of a job. Shut the running game down. Got after the QB the entire game. Huge pick by Jones at a critical point in the game. Physicality was the best I've seen it all year, huge hits from Jamar Taylor and Chris McCain. I think 8 rookies played for us in defense today, in a hostile environment, against a team that was starting to click winning three of its last four. The defense was very impressive.
why is it that if we win, its always because of the opponents playing a bad game, so there is no chance the bad game had anything to do with our defense ? the guy was rattled and hit throughout the game, i would say without knowing the numbers he was hit around 10 times today, eventually leaving the game with a shoulder injury as well as a concussion....this fan base.....unreal, the wins are always not good enough and of course always because the opponent sucked.
What a great game, even Lane Johnson said Suh is as good as any DT in the league. Thank you Lane, thanks for attempting to educate the fools who don't understand this man or this game.
Big props to Hewitt/Hull/Vigil today, who were thrusted in to action, and like coach said doubled up with Special Teams work. Mike Hull was on the practice squad 3 days ago, and all of a sudden hes on Phillys field, making plays on Leshaen McCoy and Darren Sproles. Nothing earth shattering, but it was NOT too big for the rookie. Great block by Vigil! Hewitt should have had a pick. Awesome work!
That is, if you mean Leshaen McCoy as in DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews. We held Murray, Matthews, and Sproles to a combined 33 carries for 79 yards. Just over 2.3 YPC on the ground.
I liked this LB draft class. Guys that make that many tackles in college at least know how to tackle.
great. Glad you think so. Now go buy yourself some ****ing plane tickets to Gillette Stadium in January. It's where the Patriots will be playing the AFC Championship game ------- again Tell the travel agent the Dolphins defense was impressive today ---- maybe you can get a discount
