It would be great if the journalists can point out whose going up against what string of defense. It only says Beck finished strong against second and third string defense. Well...how did the other two fair against the top defense? I hate to be picky or a grammar natzi but does that make sense?
I've come to accept the fact that Beck will be nothing more then a mediocre quarterback. If he was younger he may have a chance but no team will waste time letting a 26 year old quaterback (soon to be 27) go through growing pains because by the time he is a reliable quarterback that team will be looking to draft another QB to replace him.
Steve Young started his career late. I don't think its the age, I think its the fact that he has trouble with pressure. He doesn't seem to hold up well when facing pressure from the organization and his opponents. He also could still be a good QB in this league. Its only his second year and he has 5 total games under his belt. The guy clearly possesses the physical tools to succeed. He may be struggling but they are installing a new offense, he has a new motion that he may be getting used to and despite his age, he is relatively young football wise. Ohh ok. That makes sense now. Thanks for the clarification.
We really need a quarterback to start emerging soon. We really don't want to see a quarterback by commiting type system this year. We need to have a clear-cut starter going into the season.
Guys..we have a rookie, a second year guy, and a journeyman. Don't expect miracles. If things continue as they are now, McCown will start, and I think the plan will be for Henne to take over after the last half of the season to see if he can build on something for next year. If so, next year we'll have Henne as the starter and Beck as the backup. This team won't win until we got productive QB play...and Henne won't be productive until next year, at earliest. Of course, crazier things have happened, but thats how I think this is going to shake out.
Still early IMO to be worried about the Qb position, new HC, new OC, new GM, new QB coach, new offense, first week of TC, do all these things seem to combine into anything that would make you think we should be solid at QB right now? Not me, not worried yet.
I supported Beck and wanted him to shine after hearing about how hard he worked this offseason. Now I keep hearing how good Henne is doing and how bad Beck is doing. I never wanted the org to sign a QB that early (except for Flacco if he fell). But to tell the truth. I'm starting to warm on Henne. I just want the best QB to play. I'm not giving up on Beck, but he must play better.
a lot of people seem to point to all negative talk of beck being attributed to so-and-so reporter not liking beck. YET, all i read is bad stuff.... from all sources. could there be any chance that beck is actually just flat-out struggling and that there is little bias in some of the reporting guys?
You may be right about Beck, but I believe there is a slight media bias towards Miami QB's. I think because of Feeley, C-Pepp and Co. the local media has become VERY quick to judge in a negative way. (No to mention that guy who wore #13 kinda got us spoiled) Im not saying this doesn't happen in other cities and mind you Beck has not been stellar to say the least, but its almost if you get the sense he is expected to fail. At least thats what I gather from the things Ive seen written by 'Fill in the blank' South Florida sports reporter.
